Chapter 734: Whispers of the Heart
After dedicating special time to each of his sisters, Lucien meets Nea and Mira, who take him to the top of the castle where a special banquet is being held.
Lucien walks slowly through the corridors and stairways of the castle, observing the Mermaids and Nagas alongside his queens.
The trio is particularly moved to see their people so happy after the dark period the Blue Star went through.
Lucien knows there’s still much work ahead, both on the Blue Star and beyond, but things seem to be on the right track for a bright future.
The group arrives at the castle terrace, and Lucien reunites with all his wives, sisters, and friends.
This is the highest point in Lucien’s city, where he can view the beautiful reddish atmosphere adorned with lights of all kinds.
He has never seen or imagined such a grand party, and even though it’s both a celebration of the King’s birthday and the return of the Water Spirit, everything seems specially designed to please him.
As if he could feel her smile radiating happiness over his body, Lucien catches the gentle and bright gaze of the mysterious blue lady.
The Water Spirit simply raises a wine glass towards him as a friendly gesture, and Lucien nods at her.
Many questions hover in his mind, but they vanish when his youngest wives jump on him and shower him with excited kisses.
All the women there love him, and since it’s his birthday, they all want to show that love with gifts, delicious food, and, of course, lots of affection.
The girls don’t often participate in many social events like this, so they also seize the opportunity to chat, get to know each other better, and strengthen bonds, especially with the new members of the group.
So the party for Lucien continues for several hours, enlivening the whole Crystal City.
While giving attention to all his girls and also many lucky Mermaids and Nagas, Lucien discusses with all his wives, sisters, and Sins about the Water Spirit’s proposal.
But the Water Spirit herself keeps a distance from him, clearly giving him space to enjoy the party and put his thoughts in order.
And that really works; Lucien manages to stop thinking about all the crazy things happening in his life all the time and just enjoy the moment with his family.
But such a moment doesn’t last long as he soon remembers that his family isn’t complete yet...
Even without knowing whether his mother cares for him or is just using him as a tool, he can’t help but feel that without her, a part of him will always be missing.
All the girls who share a soul contract with him can feel his sadness, and everyone else can also notice it in his vacant gaze.
Nobody can do anything about it no matter how much they want to, but instead of trying to make Lucien feel better, the girls allow him to have a break from them too.
While all the girls turn their attention to Envy, Greed, and Gluttony, who are always creating chaos, Lucien walks to the edge of the terrace.
Of all the women around Lucien, Lust feels the worst about his suffering; after all, he only agreed to make a soul contract with her because she promised him any woman.
Yet, while he never thought of having a harem and being loved by many women, the only one he truly wanted is also the one that Lust still can’t help him find.
Just as Lust can clearly sense Lucien’s concerns, he also understands how she feels.
"It’s okay," he speaks to her mentally. "I feel we are getting close to understanding something about her..."
"I know we will find out..." Lust pauses for a moment, hesitating; but she doesn’t want to hide anything from Lucien, not even her most pessimistic thoughts.
"However, I fear that whatever we discover, it may not be good," she explains.
"Then at least I won’t feel like this on my next birthday," he smiles.
Lust knows that Lucien tries hard to keep his family safe and happy, even if it means hiding his sadness from everyone.
But instead of trying to make him open up more and expose his dark feelings, she supports him, staying by his side in silence.
From the top of the castle, they watch the thousands of Mermaids and Nagas celebrating around the city.
"What a sight, isn’t it?" The Water Spirit appears on the other side of Lucien and comments cheerfully.
Lucien smiles at her; somehow, he knows that their goals are similar, just like Nea and Mira’s.
Lust shares more feelings with Lucien than any other woman, but she can’t feel or understand his connection with the Water Spirit, which leaves her as concerned as the other Sins.
But Lust trusts Lucien; so she dematerializes her body, returning to his soul and leaving him to have a moment with the mysterious blue lady.
Lucien thanks Lust mentally and turns back to look at the city. "I could get used to seeing this every day."
"Hehe..." The Water Spirit giggles. "Isn’t that the gift I’m offering you?"
Lucien chuckles but then thinks of something. "Oh, sorry about the girls..."
"Why?" The Water Spirit asks.
"I heard they were bothering you about gifts..." He explains. "They didn’t mean any harm, they were just teasing you."
"Ah, that..." The Water Spirit tries to appear cool and serene, but her eyes sparkle with excitement.
"Actually..." She materializes a small box in her hands and hands it to him. "I want to give this to you... it’s just a... not a suspicious proposal or anything, just..."
She’s clearly shy, which makes Lucien want to laugh. But he restrains his urge to tease the Water Spirit and just smiles warmly at her.
"A gift?" He comments while running his fingers over the small box.
The Water Spirit appears both anxious and excited, but also grateful to Lucien for simply accepting the gift.
"It’s not something as incredible as what your wives are planning and..." She starts to get embarrassed.
"Thank you." But Lucien interrupts her by kissing her on the forehead.
Contrary to the various reactions he expected, a joyful smile and a bright look is her response.
Lucien’s mind goes blank as he gets lost in how beautiful the Water Spirit’s expression is.
She is different from all the women he’s known, not just because she’s so beautiful, mysterious, and powerful, but because she awakens in him a good feeling, something pure and different from his usual lustful emotions.
He feels that observing the Water Spirit’s smile is as rewarding as seeing all those happy Mermaids and Nagas.
It’s as if he has done a good job, and that smile is the purest fruit of his efforts.
Lucien loses track of time but is brought back to reality by the Water Spirit’s voice.
"Aren’t you going to open it?" She asks, clearly impatient to see his reaction to the gift.
"Maybe later..." Lucien doesn’t like feeling at a disadvantage, so he tries to tease her.
The Water Spirit’s smile is quickly replaced by a disappointed expression, making him regret teasing her.
He isn’t sure if she’s doing such things to mess with him, or if her emotions are genuinely sincere, which makes everything more intriguing.
"Just kidding," he quickly exclaims as he begins to open the gift. "Let’s see what it is..."
The Water Spirit watches Lucien’s face intently as he opens the mysterious box, eager for his reaction.
And just as she hoped, he is speechless upon seeing a small bluish shell inside the box.
"This..." Lucien is genuinely surprised as he feels a fragile aura emanating from the shell; he doesn’t need to think hard to understand what kind of shell it is.
"I thought you would like this..." She speaks while trying to hide how emotional she is now. "Just as I liked it..."
Lucien remembers well that the Water Spirit received a similar shell from her father, which became the giant magical shell that has always been by her side.
But he can’t help but wonder why she is giving him such a gift...
"It’s because she wants to go to your bed and call you daddy, obviously." Lust can’t resist commenting in Lucien’s mind.
"That would be good, right?" He quickly responds.
Yet, Lucien can’t help but believe that the Water Spirit doesn’t have sexual feelings for him, at least not in the way he knows so far...
In fact, he thinks she harbors the purest kind of sentiment; he just doesn’t understand what it means yet.
But he is sure of one thing...
"I accept," he says to the Water Spirit in a grateful and determined tone.
"Of course," she smiles. "Why wouldn’t you accept it?"
"No," he shakes his head. "Not just it..."
"Yeah, I know." She continues smiling at him.
Lucien also smiles and extends his hand to the Water Spirit. "So... allies?"
"No," her smile becomes even brighter. "Not just it..."
