After eating lunch at the cafeteria they parted ways briefly and they would meet the next day for classes once more.
Later during the day, the sun was coming down casting orange- yellow rays of light within the empty halls highlighting each structures shadows.
Adam found himself approached by a shadow, the pressure the shadow emitted was suffocating but it wasn't meant to harm him in anyway.
The shadow that approached Adam was that of Vice-Headmaster Emily Bifrost, the youngest person to ever become an SS ranked awakened.
She stopped just a few paces from him, her arms were crossed and she flashed a small grin. "Enjoying your newfound fame superstar?"
Adam saw her appearance and was shocked. I mean who couldn't be? The Vice-headmaster was standing right in front of him like it was normal.
"What's she doing her?" He thought to himself but later shook his head and calmed down.
"Well I didn't ask for it... Kinda." Adam said while meeting her gaze evenly.
"Well somethings never seek for your permission for it to happen." She replied to him curtly. "But let me make something perfectly clear. Whatever strength you reveled today, it isn't enough if you want to dominate this place. I should tell you now that seniority doesn't dictate how much power you wield."
She said this while walking towards him, and this time besides her playful and carefree attitude she was being serious.
"This is Silford Academy, where only power prevails. Others became huge figures even before graduating, and others graduated early on because their power reached a point where they only need real life experience. So in order for you to face what's coming you must grow stronger than you are now, because as of now you aren't using your power properly."
Adam inclined his head just slightly. "I understand."
Her eyes then narrowed clearly not fully believing him. "Do you really? I've watched you ever since the entrance exams. And I can tell that you thought victory alone mattered. But what's victory without discipline? Only chaos. Having power but having no control of it is nothing more than just having a fire waiting patiently to consume it's host."
Her words sank in deep. Adam didn't argue, he knew she was right. He had gotten confident and arrogant after having a few victories against weak enemies.
Ever since he reincarnated into this world he never faced any real danger, and never faced any difficulties after having the system and it wasn't because he's strong.
It was because his opponents were weak and he was just stronger than them at the time, and he barely exerted much effort into his victories either.
Adam clenched his fists and frustration was building up within his heart, cause she was right.
Now he understood that he's been too complacent, if he continued this way the world would consume him before he got strong enough.
No one would just wait for him to grow stronger, they will also train and use whatever means to gain power so he can't be idle either.
After a moment, her gazed softened just barely and flashed a warm smile. She walked over to him and tapped him on his shoulder. "Starting today at midnight. Come here again, because I'll be personaly training you starting from now. You will begin to learn true cultivation. If you wish to walk the path of domination, you must learn to wield your power properly. Only then will you be able to stand against those at the edge of this world."
And with that, she turned and left, her steps echoing down the hall. But before she disappeared she said:
"Oh and accept Veyra's offer, if I publicly declare you to be my discple it might also out a target on your head. Not that you don't have already but her influence will also help greatly."
After saying those words she disappeared into the shadows like she was never there to begin with.
Adam just stood there in silence, her words etched into him like a brand.
Adam let out a sigh, trying to digest everything he's heard. But a small smile was tugged at the edge of his lips. "Right, it begins now."
As the night started to deepen further and the academy grew quieter, but two names still passed across the lips in dormitories. Even in the corners of study halls, even in the hushed toned among the instructors.
Adam the first year Apex who stood against Kael the reigning second-year powerhouse was being shaken from his throne.
They knew that their clash wouldn't end here, there were still more fights from now on. But that day has already been carved into the academy's story.
Midnight
Midnight finally came, the moon stood up high in the hair casting it's moonlight down on the land.
In a training area stood Adam in his shorts and a t-shirt. He was waiting for the Vice-Headmaster to arrive that's when he heard a voice from the far distance:
"Oh? It seems you've arrived. Good then let's waist anymore time." Before Adam could react she snapped her fingers and darkness began to envelope the whole training ground swallowing them both.
The whole training grounds was silent after that and both of them have disappeared from the area entirely.
Not far from them a lone figure stood and observed the whole scene, he stroked his beard and looked at everything with keen interest.
"Hmm, to think she'd be so interested with the boy to the point of personally training him." He then gazed off into the far distance.
"The wheels are now in motion, it's time for us to prepare and be ready as well."
Somewhere else in a hidden location:
The world unraveled before them as they both arrived in a hidden location.
It was a large forest that was covered with a barrier that isolated it from the outside world.
Adam was amazed at the scene, that was a small cabin there as well. It seemed that Emily came here countless times.
"Welcome to my little world, Adam. Here I can train you without having to worry about any prying eyes. Especially that old geezer."
"Now let's begin with our introductions. My Name is Emily Bifrost, SS ranked awakened. I hold dominion over Darkness, Ice and Lightning but the world only knows about my affinity with Darkness and Ice." She said with a smile clearly proud.
"Now first things first I need to see your current mana cultivation technique. I want to see how effective it is and if you need to change it."
Adam nodded understanding her point. He took a meditation pose and started absorbing mana using his cultivation technique.
Emily observed everything and was in shock. "Th-This is?" She was surprised, the rate at which he was absorbing mana was much faster and effective than she expected.
"No wonder he's stronger than most awakened event though he just awakened not long ago." She thought to herself.
After a few moments Emily told him to stop and Adam did just that and then said:
"So master? What do you think?" Adam asked.
"Hmm, where did you get that cultivation technique? It's more effective than anything I've ever seen." Emily asked
However Adam was now caught in a dilemma:
"What should I do? I can't say the system gave me this cultivation technique so what should I say... Oh I know!"
"I don't know... I just found the book next to my mom's pendant." Adam said while taking out the pendant he wore around his neck showing it to Emily.
When Emily saw the pendant her eyes widened slightly but quickly returned back to her usual look. "This pendant... I've seen it before. That design. If what I'm thinking about is true then it makes sense if he's her son." She thought to herself.
"If I recall your mother was the second wife of Duke Dragonis, she later went missing and her traces couldn't be found right?" Emily asked.
Adam nodded slightly but she cold see the flash of sadness crossing through his eyes and she decided to drop the topic.
"I see, well just keep using that technique for now. The only thing I need to teach you now is how to properly wield mana." She said while walking towards him:
"I already know that professor Seraphim taught you the basics of wielding mana but now we'll take it a step further."
She said as she channeled her mana and an orb made out of darkness manifested from his palm and then later changed it's form into a sword made out of pure darkness.
"Elemental Affinity can be used it many ways if you know how to properly wield mana. During the entrance exams all you've been doing is channeling your elemental affinity through a conductor or through your bodies in bursts of power."
"All you've been doing is basic stuff. However some were able to create gauntlets made out of earth or even arrows made out of Ice, and due to the nature of their affinity it was simple for them to do so but your case is special."
"Anyone is able to create constructs using their elemental affinities but not everyone can take it a step further."
When she said this the sword made out of darkness morphed into something, it changed into a snake that wrapped itself around Emily's body and started hissing.
"You can even do this, by treating mana as an extension of yourself you can even make things like this. And others advance it further with techniques."
"All of this is just the basic fundamentals of using mana. Now I want you to do that with your space affinity, first try creating a small rift in space and maintain it for a long time."
"You can do more with your affinity rather can close the distance with cuts or bypass defenses."
"Space itself can be considered the void itself. It can be endless and you must learn how to control that power so that it becomes second nature."
"This will be your first lesson."
