Reborn as the bastard son of a Duke

Chapter 37: Kyrexis

While Adam was busy training in the dead of the night, things were brewing within the darkness, unknown forces were busy making moves and plans.

Kyrexis Base

The carven was stretching endlessly and it's jagged maw was hidden beneath mountains no one would dare to venture.

The very air was thick with the must of very old stone and something older still, it was as if something alive was pulsing beneath the earth itself.

The was black fire that was burning on torches along the walls, it was casting unnatural shadows that were bending in the wrong ways, it was as if even light itself didn't dare to touch the stone.

This was the gathering of Kyrexis, an organization who's main goal was the revival of the outer gods whom have been sealed.

There was dozens of them would knelt down in concentric circles, they were wearing dark robes and their faces were being hidden behind masks made of bones most likely from their victims or the monsters they've slain long forgotten by the world.

The lowest ranked members bowed their heads until their foreheads were scrapping the damp stone and they were busy whispering prayers that no sane god wanted to hear.

At the very heart of the chamber stood a man holding a staff that was etched with runes that bled a faint crimson light.

The man was cloaked in crimson and black robes, and his voice was the only sound that would silence the murmurs in the chamber.

He was only refered to as: The Hierophant.

"My children of the Abyss," his voice reverberated across the whole chamber like thunder that was muffled inside a tomb. "The chains are rusting, and the sealing weakness with each passing day. The beast within' the academy is stirring."

Then a ripple of sound passed through all the kneeling cultists, their faces was a mixture of awe and fear.

That's when The Hierophant started rasing his hand, and then silence fell once again.

"Many call it a calamity. Some call it a curse. But we're the children of the Abyss know the truth. They all known that the creature sealed beneath their monument isn't a monster but one of the son's of the Outer Gods. Corrupted by their massive power and an advocate of destruction." His words were resonating against the stone, carried by some invisible force. "There are others like it, sealed within multiple lands, some in the realm's left by the God's themselves. They will wake, and that's when this world will burn with revelation. This false peace between races is only a fragile unity, their last stand against calamity, their delusions of this balance, it will all come crumbling down before their eyes."

He then payed for a moment, he let the silence seep in, before his voice dropped like a hammer.

"And we... Kyrexis... Shall be the new worlds heralds!"

That's when all the cultists began to chain, in loud shouts that grew louder with each passing heartbeat:

"Kyrexis! Kyrexis! Kyrexis!"

The sound of the chants wasn't merely just an echo, they sank deep into the stones and the very earth itself until faint tremors erupted from beneath their feet.

And that's when The Hierophant lifted his other hand, that led to revealing an obsidian shard that was veined with crimson light.

Even the masked lieutenants right next to him flinched when seeing the shard, they all knew what that shard meant. For that is a shard that pulsed with the energy of an Outer God and it had a sense of corruption.

"Our prophesized time is drawing near my children. The Inter-racial completion will take place in a few months from now and this time it shall be held in the Human Continent at Silford Academy our target." He said letting his words sink in before continuing. "The grand spectacle of their false piece shall be our vein. While all these races Elves, Demons, And dragons look in pride at their so called 'Genuises', we shall move from the shadows unseen."

That's when one lieutenant dared to raise his voice and ask a question. "Silford Academy... The wards of that place are very ancient. Even in the past the demon king couldn't break it without alarming the gods or the powerhouses, I fear such shall happen again since that old man is still alive to this day."

The Hierophant started to laugh upon hearing his subordinates statement, the laughter was deep and cold. "Break it? No. We won't be doing any breaking. We shall just only provide a key to aide in its own escape... And The Headmaster shall be a problem however once the ritual starts not even he can stop it."

He then turned his body, gesturing to the runes that were carved in the dais. That's when they flared briefly, revealing a complex diagram of interlocking seals and symbols that were strikingly similar to those buried beneath the academy.

"The beast stays sealed due to balance." He started to explain. "The unity of the awakened and also the mana of countless races, and let's not forget the false order between their fragile alliance. So as long there's harmony the seal won't even budge but..." He voice was now low but still cold. "When there's discord, when there's envy and hatred, when they stain the ground of their sacred stage, the seal will weaken."

Another lieutenant's eyes flashed with inspiration as if he now understood what their leader was getting at, she then asked: "Then that means the competition—?"

"Yes." The Hierophant's voice cut through her sentence but they could see his eyes gleam through the mask. "It shall be a tournament of blood clothed as a ceremony. When they fight, when they start bleeding. Each and every drop of blood that will be spilled, will feed the slight fracture. And by the time the finals begin, it will all be over. During their crowning of their champion, the beast will stir, fiercely it will crack it's own cage. And when the beast rises..."

He the stood up from his seat and spread his arms up wide, his robes flowing like shadowed wings. "Kyrexis shall guide it's fury. We shall massacre the prodigies they protect and have pride in. We shall remind them that the Outer God's are still a threat, and we shall be the leading figures in this path."

Every robed figure who was kneeling on the ground stood up with enthusiasm, their chang's rose again and this time it was thunderous, shaking the dust on the ceilings.

"Kyrexis! Kyrexis! Kyrexis!"

But it wasn't everyone who were blind zealots in the chamber.

In the very rear, a being cloaked in shadows deeper than the rest, a single figure was watching silently. His mask wasn't the same as the others it was more simple, it was marked only with a single crimson line down it's center.

His posture was rigid, and he gaze was calculating. Because for him he wasn't just a worshipper, he was also an aide to the current demon king, he once sworn to the court to protect the peace but was now betraying his oath.

His thoughts were much similar to the previous demon king rather than his master's fire. He believed that peace was a fool's dream and that only wars and strife can grow a person.

He always thought that the current demon king has grown too soft, drunk on the treaties provided by the other races when they came here to claim this world.

But when the beast finally awakens, that's when the demons shall reclaim their true path and his followers will be with him when the rebellious begins.

Kyrexis was just an organization filled with fanatics, but one thing was for sure their power and history ran deep, but when the time comes he shall strike and the demons will return to their rightful dominion.

The Hierophant's voice then cut through the chamber once more, also silencing the man who was deep in thought. "Now my children prepare, each one of you has a part to play in this crusade. The elves are arrogant. The demons always want blood wether their peaceful now or not, and the Dragons are just overseers they'll never act unless the world is threatened they'll simply watch to see if they can overcome it themselves. And as for the humans..."

He just simply laughed barely acknowledging them as too much of a threat besides the old powerhouses. "They will being us the stage, their very own pride and joy Silford Academy. And when the bell of the tournament tolls, our crusade will begin because Kyrexis shall rule over all."

That's when the glyphs pulsed as if answering him, red light was crawling the floor like veins and for a heartbeat all those who were present felt it, a stir that deep, something collosal was turning in it's sleep.

The Hierophant just bowed his head and led out a small smile, his voice also trembling with reverence. "Our lord beneath this mountain heard us. Soon the devouring serpent shall awaken and answer our convictions however for now we shall focus on unsealing the beast within the academy and that's when everything will begin."

Then only silence followed and everyone nodded and shouted in reverence, and the figure who is an aide to the demon king simply disappeared into the shadows as if he was never there to begin with.

While the world was resting peaceful without a care in the world, they could never imagine what was to befall them in the coming months.

But when the calamity strikes they'll now understand, that the piece was never permanent and if you want survive... You must be strong enough to keep yourself alive.
