The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 137: Edible

Buddhist Scriptures say that The Bodhisattva Guanyin has thirty-three Dharma Bodies, and those paintings depicting her image as a moon reflection on water are called Water Moon Guanyin.

Upon hearing Mei Hu mention the Water Moon Fairy, Sun Wukong immediately connected her with The Bodhisattva Guanyin.

He asked Mei Hu further and learned that she met the Water Moon Fairy during selections for rainfall forecasters, where the fairy emerged as the top selected candidate.

"Why would The Bodhisattva Guanyin be interested in this matter?"

Sun Wukong was puzzled, but after careful thought, he figured out the answer.

The Bodhisattva Guanyin possesses great wisdom; perhaps she anticipated his next actions, understood the significance of the job, and disguised herself to intervene.

"If it is really her, I cannot ignore this."

Sun Wukong made his plans, thinking of a way to persuade The Bodhisattva Guanyin to give up.

The next day, he met the Water Moon Fairy.

Just as Daji described, the Water Moon Fairy was incredibly beautiful. Since her arrival, Ao Luan had been constantly watching her, observing her every move with Sun Wukong.

"Ao Luan is so guarded; he must also be suspecting her."

Sun Wukong thought. However, after seeing the Water Moon Fairy, he became unsure of her identity.

His Eyes of Golden Flame saw a fairy, not a Bodhisattva, with little Buddha Light on her.

The Water Moon Fairy was an Independent Immortal from the North Sea, and Sun Wukong could find no fault with her background.

He decided to observe for a while longer.

Huaguo Mountain had chosen sixty female demons and several human girls to help forecast rainfall - a task that was not too difficult. As long as the voice was right, even an untransformed female owl was selected.

The next day, Sun Wukong took Water Moon Fairy and Daji to the West Sea Dragon Palace.

The two of them were in charge of managing the other forecasters. Daji was extremely excited all the way, and Water Moon Fairy also acted normally.

Sun Wukong didn't notice anything amiss.

Upon arriving at the West Sea Dragon Palace, Ao Moang led shrimp soldiers and crab generals to greet them on the sea surface.

After entering the sea, Sun Wukong saw a magnificent palace enveloped by enormous water bubbles.

The West Sea Dragon Palace was dazzling with treasures, so luxurious that Daji's eyes gleamed, eager to start exploring right away.

Water Moon Fairy seemed accustomed to seeing rare treasures and didn't react much.

Sun Wukong, however, wasn't focused on the palace.

"This is…"

He keenly sensed that the water bubble enveloping the Dragon Palace was different from the Barrier at the Dragon Palace of the East Sea—it rather resembled a "Spiritual Network?"

Sun Wukong exclaimed in surprise, "You've learned to use the Spiritual Network?"

"This was built by demons invited from Huaguo Mountain."

Ao Moang told him, "We of the Dragon Palace wish to construct more Spiritual Networks under the sea, and we need Huaguo Mountain's expertise."

"That's already quite impressive."

Sun Wukong said.

He entered the palace, and was even more amazed to see that the West Sea Dragon Palace possessed many Spiritual Objects from Huaguo Mountain.

In the main hall, Sun Wukong was greeted by the smiling West Sea Dragon King.

"Great Saint, welcome, welcome!"

The West Sea Dragon King warmly received Sun Wukong.

Even without mentioning Sun Wukong's identity, his teachings to Ao Moang made the West Sea Dragon King treat him with great respect.

After returning from training at Huaguo Mountain, Ao Moang had helped the palace, gradually transforming the water clan management in the entire West Sea.

"Moang's learning has been fruitful, lightening my burden considerably."

The Dragon King praised his Crown Prince to Sun Wukong.

He later hosted a feast for Sun Wukong and the two others, with a table filled with mountains and seas' delicacies.

Water Moon Fairy saw the dishes and slightly frowned, "I don't like to eat meat, could you serve some vegetarian dishes and fruits instead?"

"Let's serve all vegetarian food."

Sun Wukong's heart stirred.

He looked towards Water Moon Fairy, suspicion in his eyes.

Subsequently, the Dragon King had exquisite vegetarian pastries brought in, refilling the long table.

Sun Wukong observed the pastries on the table and thought they looked somewhat similar to those from Huaguo Mountain.

Some Dragon Boys and Dragon Girls while at Huaguo Mountain developed a deep love for studying culinary arts, so he was not surprised.

The Dragon King filled Sun Wukong's cup with fine wine and asked, "Great Saint, why do you want to inform mortals of the rainfall?"

When Sun Wukong introduced Water Moon Fairy and Daji, he had mentioned the matter of forecasting rainfall to the Dragon King.

He took a sip of wine: "What's wrong with that?"

"That's not a problem!"

The Dragon King shook his head repeatedly, "It's just a bit strange..."

In the past, the distribution of rain was decreed by the Jade Emperor, never to be disclosed to mortals, Sun Wukong's approach was indeed quite unique.

"How does the Great Saint plan to spread the news of the rainfall?"

The Dragon King asked another question.

Sun Wukong took out a musical note.

"This will do the job."

Upon knowing the musical note could transmit sound, Sun Wukong was very pleased.

The note could function like a radio; this fact would be greatly helpful for his future reforms in the Western Continent.

"This note, although usable, has one major issue."

Ao Moang looked at the musical note and asked, "Great King, to whom will you assign its use?"

Although he had been away from Huaguo Mountain for many years, he was familiar with the latest technology of Huaguo Mountain.

The transmission of sound via the musical note requires a considerable amount of Spiritual Power, and it needs someone to regularly infuse Spiritual Power to function.

Sun Wukong smiled: "I am going to give it to those old men."

Everyone was momentarily stunned, then came to a realization.

"Mountain God and the God of Land!"

"What a brilliant plan."

The West Sea Dragon King couldn't help but admire; he hadn't thought of such an excellent method.

By announcing the rainfall through God of Land and Mountain God, it would not only enhance Sun Wukong's prestige and influence in the Western Continent but also increase the incense offerings for the God of Land and Mountain God, killing two birds with one stone.

"In that case, Great Saint."

The West Sea Dragon King then asked, "Why don't we inform the God of Land and Mountain God about the rainfall ourselves, why bother Miss Daji and the others?"

Sun Wukong smiled without responding.

The Dragon King, after thinking carefully, quickly understood that Sun Wukong was decentralizing power, intending to use these forecasters to monitor their rain control.

Upon realization, the Dragon King broke out in cold sweat, understanding that although Sun Wukong did not possess the dignity of the Jade Emperor, he was not to be underestimated.

"Great Saint—"

The Dragon King wanted to please Sun Wukong but suddenly realized that the vegetarian dishes just served on the table had disappeared.

He quickly glanced around, noticing that Water Moon Fairy's table was filled with dishes.

While they were chatting, the whole table's worth of food had been eaten by Water Moon Fairy.

Daji's mouth was also stuffed with food.

"Ooh..."

She nearly choked but managed to swallow the pastries after drinking two glasses of water.

"How on earth is her stomach made!"

She turned to look at the Water Moon Fairy sitting calmly next to her eating.

The stack of plates in front of Water Moon Fairy was now taller than her.

Seemingly aware that everyone was looking at her, Water Moon Fairy paused and then put down her chopsticks.

"Did I eat too much?"

She asked.

"No, not at all!"

The Dragon King shook his head and signaled for the maids of the Dragon Palace to continue serving dishes.

Sun Wukong slightly frowned, then dispelled any doubts he had about Water Moon Fairy.

How could Bodhisattva Guanyin possibly eat so much.
