The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 138: Still Doubting

After the banquet.

"Thank you for your hospitality."

Water Moon Fairy let out a satisfied burp, saying, "It's been a long time since I've had such good food."

The Dragon King wiped his sweat; this fairy had eaten the equivalent of twenty or thirty people.

Had Sun Wukong not been present, he would have chased her away already.

"Great Saint."

Ignoring Water Moon Fairy, the Dragon King turned to Sun Wukong and asked, "Can I assign a portion of this cloud-gathering and rain-making task to my dragon sons and grandsons?"

For hundreds of years, the West Sea Dragon King had diligently controlled the weather every day; now with a change to a new Heavenly Venerate, he naturally wished to lighten his load.

"If they have such divine skills."

Sun Wukong nodded, "Of course, they can."

The Dragon King was overjoyed at hearing this; although his dragon sons and grandsons were not very powerful in mana, if they worked together, each responsible for one region, it would not be an issue.

Then, Sun Wukong and his party returned to Huaguo Mountain.

In the East Sea, they saw two figures flying toward the Kingdom of Aolai.

"Elder Jin Chan, Prince Nezha."

Sun Wukong stopped them, "Where are you going?"

"Amitabha."

Jin Chanzi stopped flying and said, "We were just on our way to Huaguo Mountain to find you."

Sun Wukong suddenly realized that Jin Chanzi's ability to get lost didn't differentiate between his incarnations and his true form.

He also noticed that Jin Chanzi had no reaction to Water Moon Fairy—clearly, she wasn't The Bodhisattva Guanyin.

"Great Saint."

Nezha flew forward on his Fire Wheel as though he wanted to say something.

Sun Wukong looked at him, then smiled, "Welcome."

All of the words that Nezha had wanted to say were swallowed back down.

Without the constraints of Heavenly King Li, he had gained his freedom, but after much thought, he didn't know where to go.

In the end, he chose Huaguo Mountain, thinking he could persuade Sun Wukong. But upon seeing him, he had immediately received a welcome.

With those two words, there was no need for further speech.

"Thank you, Great Saint!"

Nezha bowed in gratitude.

Sun Wukong smiled and asked Jin Chanzi, "What do you need me for?"

"The Buddha sent me."

Jin Chanzi replied, "He asked me to inform you that in ten days, Lingshan will leave the Western Continent."

"Oh?"

Sun Wukong's eyes lit up.

Before Lingshan moved, he couldn't approach the Western Continent, so he had to make do with visits to Dragon Palaces.

But in ten days, once Lingshan had departed, he could rule over the Western Continent.

"I need to go back and plan."

Sun Wukong thought to himself and invited Jin Chanzi and Nezha to join him at Huaguo Mountain.

"Great Saint."

However, Water Moon Fairy suddenly spoke, "I want to return to the North Sea to bring some gifts."

"Go ahead."

Sun Wukong nodded.

Water Moon Fairy then flew toward the North Sea.

She flew for a long time, not stopping until Sun Wukong's presence could no longer be felt.

"That rascal truly has vast divine skills..."

Water Moon Fairy sighed softly and turned to fly toward the South Sea.

In no time, she arrived at Luo Ga Mountain in the Purple Bamboo Forest.

"Bodhisattva."

A pair of immortal children immediately came forward with the Jade Purification Bottle to greet her.

Water Moon Fairy picked up the Jade Purification Bottle and dipped a willow branch into its sweet dew, painting a life-restoring Buddha character in her palm.

"Amitabha."

Water Moon Fairy pressed her palms together, reciting a Buddhist scripture.

With heart connecting to mind, and mind to body, she was suddenly bathed in Buddha Light, and in the blink of an eye, transformed back into The Bodhisattva Guanyin.

The immortal children were overjoyed and asked, "Bodhisattva, why did you take on a mortal form to meet Sun Wukong?"

"Sun Wukong has extensive divine skills and can see through all the illusions in the world."

The Bodhisattva Guanyin said, "Had I not shed my Buddha Power and taken on a mortal form, how could I have deceived him?"

The immortal children further inquired, "Was this matter worth such an elaborate effort?"

"This is a significant merit, not a superficial matter."

Guanyin answered, yet chose not to elaborate.

She returned to her cave and announced, "I will be in retreat for a few days; guard well in my absence."

The immortal children nodded in agreement and left the cave entrance.

"Ugh..."

One of the immortal children seemed to hear a noise from inside.

"What's wrong with the Bodhisattva?"

"What do you mean what's wrong?"

The other immortal child heard nothing.

The first immortal child waited, and upon not hearing the noise again, diligently guarded the entrance.

Inside the cave, the Bodhisattva used immortal law to clear the food from her body.

"Indeed, a mortal body is not suited to overindulgence."

She thought to herself.

The situation in the West Sea Dragon Palace was simply too perilous; as soon as she mentioned a vegetarian diet, Sun Wukong became suspicious, and to deceive that clever monkey, she had to sacrifice her body.

It was also the fact that the pastries were indeed delicious, which prompted her to come up with such an idea on the spur of the moment.

Without using immortal law to assist, consuming so much food nearly made her vomit.

Fortunately, after this incident, Sun Wukong would no longer doubt her.

The Bodhisattva Guanyin closed her eyes to recuperate.

Some days later, having recovered, she transformed back into Water Moon Fairy and returned to Huaguo Mountain.

At that time, Shuilian Cave was once again hosting a banquet.

"All the immortals have gathered."

The little demons said, "The Great King is entertaining them!"

Water Moon Fairy thought it was no wonder, and as she entered Shuilian Cave, the old monkey immediately came to welcome her.

"Water Moon Fairy, please come this way."

The Long Armed Ape Monkey guided her.

Such a warm reception made Water Moon Fairy a bit puzzled.

"The Great King has ordered that should there be a gathering, we must not allow the fairy to go hungry."

While speaking, the Long Armed Ape Monkey led her to a separate table full of dishes.

"We have also prepared three more tables for you, so you can eat at your leisure."

Water Moon Fairy was dumbfounded, then turned to look at Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong gave her a kind smile.

"That rascal is still suspicious of me!"

Water Moon Fairy thought resentfully but responded with a smile.

She had no choice but to continue eating.
