The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 136: Water Moon Fairy

How vast is the Western Continent?

The Heavenly Book "Journey to the West" records a journey of one hundred and eight thousand miles, most of which lies within the Western Continent.

According to the estimation of Sun Wukong, who appears in the Heavenly Book, the Western Continent is about the size of two Earths.

That is to say, the area he is to rule over is equivalent to two Earths of the future world!

Although the population is far less than that of Earth, the land is certainly vast enough.

"Your direction is not wrong."

Two days later, Master Puti was walking in the forest and listened to Sun Wukong as he finished explaining his plan.

"To manage the intricate affairs of such a huge continent with just a handful of Immortals and the Demons from Huaguo Mountain is bound to stretch you thin."

There was a hint of praise in the Grandmaster's voice.

It is simply not feasible to unify and reform the vast and boundless Western Continent. With Sun Wukong's current forces and manpower, spreading himself too thin would surely lead to failure.

Sun Wukong's decision to develop an Immortal Country, spread technology, and drive the development of the entire Western Continent is currently the most viable method.

However, there is a problem with this plan.

"Huaguo Mountain might be impossible to move."

After inspecting the foundations of Huaguo Mountain for several days, Master Puti said to Sun Wukong.

He had only been here for a few days, but had already ascertained that Huaguo Mountain, formed since the separation of purity and turbidity and the division of Hongmeng, cannot be moved without considering its foundation above the Spiritual Spring.

"Even if we could move Huaguo Mountain, without finding such a nourishing Spiritual Spring, its Spiritual Energy would be affected."

Moving it is a plan fraught with difficulties, Master Puti explained, and if carelessly executed, Huaguo Mountain would hardly be able to spawn as many Demons as before.

The Grandmaster suggested that Huaguo Mountain should stay where it is, and another Immortal Country should be built in the Western Continent.

"Create another?"

Sun Wukong frowned slightly, "Is that better?"

"It would save more trouble than moving Huaguo Mountain."

Master Puti remarked, "The Western Continent is vast with few inhabitants, humans are concentrated in only a few areas, so finding a deserted wilderness to build another Immortal Country is actually not difficult."

He looked at Sun Wukong: "My Mountain of Mind and Heart could serve as one of the Grotto Heavens."

Sun Wukong frowned slightly.

"Choosing the location isn't a problem."

With countless Mountain Gods under his command, it's not hard to find a suitable place without relying on Fangcun Mountain.

The problem is—"If Huaguo Mountain doesn't move, how can I have enough manpower?"

"Just move a group of people there to start."

The Grandmaster answered simply.

But he understood that Sun Wukong was actually finding it hard to part with Huaguo Mountain, so he smiled and said, "If you want to move Huaguo Mountain, you can consider it again after a hundred years."

Sun Wukong sighed, scattering people this way was really not the optimal solution he wanted.

"Let's look into it further then!"

If he could find a way, he would still hope to move all the people from Huaguo Mountain.

It was getting late, and Sun Wukong escorted Master Puti back to his residence.

"Master," on the way, Wukong asked, "How come Daji hasn't been clinging to you today?"

"I knew it was your mischief."

Master Puti shook his head: "Have you forgotten, today is the selection for the Rainfall Forecaster, she went to join the audition."

"Oh."

Sun Wukong then recalled that he had instructed Ao Luan to select the Rainfall Forecaster today.

As the Rainfall Forecaster would later announce rainfalls throughout the Western Continent, with Daji's nature, she wouldn't miss such an opportunity to make herself known.

The two returned to the library in Yunxiao City, where Master Puti was staying.

Sun Wukong had originally wanted to offer him a residence at the Monkey King Palace, but the Grandmaster had instead created a room in the library and settled there.

With interest in all kinds of knowledge, unlike most elderly, the Grandmaster was quick-witted and open-minded. Every bit of knowledge from Huaguo Mountain was like a treasure trove to him.

Just within a few days, he had absorbed knowledge no less than any Demon.

"Since the master likes it here."

Sun Wukong took the initiative: "Then, may I hand over the library to you?"

"Oh?"

Master Puti seemed a bit surprised: "This precious place, you're willing to entrust it to me?"

"There is no one more suitable than Master."

Sun Wukong bowed deeply: "In the future, when I compile the Heavenly Book, it would be perfect to ask Master to manage it with me!"

Master Puti looked at Sun Wukong with a smile.

Actually, he had this idea too, but he had never spoken of it.

The day-to-day management of Huaguo Mountain was in Ao Luan's hands, the Immortal Records were managed by Emperor Donghua, the Alchemy and Artifact Refining were handled by Lord Lao Zi, and along with Immortal Zhenyuan, Immortal Master Erlang, and other Demon Kings, most matters had someone to shoulder the responsibility.

Only one kind of affair did not have a specific person in charge at Huaguo Mountain.

"If that's the case."

Master Puti spoke: "From now on, I'll oversee the educational affairs for you, and you can hand over the various schools to my management as well."

A delighted look appeared on Sun Wukong's face: "Master, you are willing to teach demons?"

"The demons of Huaguo Mountain are not inherently bad, they can all be taught."

The Grandmaster nodded; if this were earlier, he definitely would not have had such a thought.

However, after decades of education on Huaguo Mountain, the young demons were now entirely distinct from those outside; all had been enlightened and literate, their quality no lesser than that of humans, and certainly could be taught as well.

"Moreover, the Immortal Country you want to build is called Wanling."

The Grandmaster said: "With such a name, humans will be indispensable in the future, won't they?"

Sun Wukong nodded.

"In that case, I will leave it in Master's hands."

He gave Master Puti another bow.

The Grandmaster then reminded: "Taking charge of education does not mean I'll take disciples."

Sun Wukong couldn't help but give a wry smile: "Of course."

With Master Puti's noble character overseeing education, Sun Wukong believed that the demons of Huaguo Mountain could receive teaching according to their abilities and achieve better nurturing.

Sun Wukong called over Mr. Gu Zhi and the old turtle, instructing them to follow Master Puti's management, and he handed over the library to Master Puti.

With this, Sun Wukong had an extra Minister of Education and a part-time staff by his side.

He bid farewell to the Grandmaster and left the library.

No sooner had he stepped out of the front door than a Mei Hu flew towards him.

"Daji, are you looking for Master?"

Sun Wukong asked.

The Mei Hu landed on the ground, nodded slightly, and seemed somewhat disheartened.

"What's the matter?"

Sun Wukong had never seen such an expression on her face: "Did you not get selected?"

"No."

The Mei Hu shook her head.

She had passed the assessment and was chosen to be a Rainfall Forecaster.

That was not the reason for her being disheartened.

"Great King, I met a Fairy."

The Mei Hu said: "She is even more beautiful than me."

Sun Wukong almost couldn't believe his eyes.

Could there be a woman in this world whom the Mei Hu admits is more beautiful than herself?

"Which Fairy might that be?"

Sun Wukong couldn't help but be curious.

Mind you, the Mei Hu did not even acknowledge the Fairies of the Guanghan Palace.

"I saw her for the first time."

The Mei Hu thought for a moment: "Her name seems to be Water Moon Fairy…"

"Water Moon Fairy?"

A thought struck Sun Wukong, and he instantly understood.

That was The Bodhisattva Guanyin.
