Chapter 3110: Gong Rong Would Definitely Return
How could Gong Fu be so stupid?
Gong Rong’s heart only grew more and more uneasy the more that he thought about this matter. He spent all day every day just waiting for further news regarding Gong Fu.
At last, news came. Gong Fu’s kidney had ruptured. Her internal organs had sustained varying degrees of damage, and the hospital had issued a critical condition notice.
When Gong Rong saw the report, it struck him like a bolt of lightning. He threw off the blanket and ran out—clearly heading back to SR Conglomerate.
Ning Shu had predicted this. Gong Rong would definitely return.
Watching Gong Rong dash out in a hurry, Mother Xu asked, “What’s wrong with him?”
“Something urgent came up, probably,” Ning Shu said cheerfully as she turned off the television.
“Mom, it’s time for us to change locations too,” Ning Shu said to Mother Xu.
Mother Xu quickly pulled a set of women’s clothes out of her bag, along with a wig and some makeup tools.
Ning Shu changed her outfit, put on the wig, and did her makeup. Then she and Mother Xu left the small motel, where they had been staying for nearly half a month.
“Xinxin, where are we going now?” They couldn’t go home. The police were still searching everywhere for Xinxin.
Her daughter had been in the prime of her life, yet now, because of her illness, had been forced down this path.
Mother Xu felt deep anguish. She even began entertaining the thought of dying just so she wouldn’t drag her daughter down with her.
This time, Ning Shu chose a remote suburban location, somewhere completely out of the way. They would just keep lying low, moving from place to place.
If things got really bad, they’d live in the sewers. Ning Shu wasn’t afraid of anything. Her only fear was that Mother Xu’s body wouldn’t be able to hold out.
Gong Rong returned to the Gong family mansion in full women’s clothing, making those who saw him think they were seeing a ghost.
He had no choice but to return. He had to stabilize the SR Conglomerate.
His sudden reappearance shocked many people. After all, his own younger sister had publicly claimed he’d been killed by his kidnapper.
Gong Rong’s face was pale, completely drained of color, and no one knew about the wound on his arm.
He went to the hospital to see Gong Fu. She lay on the hospital bed, looking as though she had barely any life left in her.
Gong Rong simply didn’t understand. How could a healthy young woman suddenly cough up blood?
All that had happened was that a few board members disagreed with her proposal. Was that enough to make her cough up blood?
The doctor’s explanation was that it might have been due to excessive stress.
Whenever a physical condition couldn’t be explained, they always chalked it up to stress.
He had already laid out the path for her—a smooth, flat road. He never expected her to collapse like this.
She might die. Her kidney had ruptured and she had already undergone surgery. Now it was just a matter of whether she could pull through.
Gong Rong looked exhausted, and with the injury on his body, the pallor on his face turned to an ashen grey.
His sudden appearance had reporters buzzing with excitement. They asked how he had managed to come back alive—wasn’t he supposed to have been killed by his kidnapper?
Why had his sister said he was dead?
Had she given up the rescue effort?
The questions the reporters asked could have filled an entire prime-time family feud drama.
At the core, it was all about two siblings fighting openly and behind the scenes over SR Conglomerate.
Even the kidnapping itself had come under scrutiny.
No matter how Gong Rong answered—whether he had been kidnapped or not—it would reflect poorly on Gong Fu, who was still lying there in the hospital bed.
If he hadn’t been kidnapped, why had she made such a fuss?
If he had been kidnapped, why had she said he was dead when he wasn’t actually?
Either way, it seemed like there was something suspicious with this kidnapping.
And so, the unconscious Gong Fu was left in between a rock and a hard place.
Gong Rong stared straight ahead, as if looking through empty space at someone unseen. In a woman’s voice, he said, “I was kidnapped.”
Sitting in front of the TV, Ning Shu met Gong Rong’s gaze and smiled calmly. What a nice kidnapper she must be, to let him escape so easily.
