Chapter 606 - : Mending A Soul

Chapter 606: Mending A Soul

While Jin Chi hesitated, it was his wife who steeled herself to say, “Curator, please do what you need to do. My husband will obey and retract his monster energy. Whether or not the treatment succeeds, we will always remember your grace.”

She had made her decision.

Jin Chi snapped out of his thoughts upon hearing her words.

It seems that his wife had a clearer view of the whole picture.

Forcibly containing their son’s soul with monster energy was only a temporary measure. Based on the current situation, they probably had less than a year before the method ultimately stops working.

When that happens, the chances of saving their son was nil.

Now that Curator was here with a plausible treatment method, why should they even hesitate?

The chances of success may be as low as ten percent, but it was still better than waiting for certain death.

Even in the worst-case scenario, the only difference was the postponement of their son’s death by one year.

Every moment their son remained alive in that comatose state was filled with agony. Did it not make sense for them to liberate him from the pain as soon as possible.

After such thoughts flashed through Jin Chi’s mind, he regained his senses and bowed at Curator. “My wife is right. I will remove the monster energy now. No matter the outcome, I’m willing to accept it all.”

Both of them had just gone through a mental struggle. Their decision reflected their acceptance of their son’s demise should the plan fall through.

That was a fact. Still, Lin Jin felt the need to reassure them.

After all, he was ninety-nine percent sure that the treatment would succeed. No, perhaps it was a little higher than that. So, he said, “I will be using acupuncture to mend junior’s soul and the success rate is estimated to be higher than ninety percent. Please wait outside for the time being.”

The couple was overjoyed to hear this.

More than ninety-percent success rate?

It was one step away from a guaranteed survival. Without wasting time, Jin Chi pulled his wife along to salute Curator and the fake Lin Jin before exiting the cave.

Once outside, Jin Chi wore an expectant expression, a stark contrast from the worried look on his wife’s face.

Despite her decisiveness, when it came to the actual event, she was much more worried about her son than anyone else.

“My dear, is Curator really that extraordinary?” She was having doubts even if she didn’t show them just now.

Jin Chi chuckled. “You can rest assured, darling. You know I don’t trust anyone that easily, not especially after meeting so many superficial people who are after fame and fortune. This time, I feel it’s different. Curator is not an average man. His disciple, my sworn brother, was able to create a sea out of nowhere. For him to be so capable, his master must be even better. If my intuition is correct, Curator might just be an immortal…”

“Immortal? That doesn’t seem to be much. Didn’t you say that your cultivation level is already at the standard of an immortal monster?” his wife asked.

Jin Chi waved. “Not yet. I may have reached the standard but my actual capability is far from what an immortal can achieve. What’s more, can an immortal monster compare to an immortal human? When the world changed back then, only human immortals were annihilated. Why? Because human mortals were stronger. I’ve also witnessed Curator’s powers with my own eyes. It will be fine.”

Since Jin Chi had put it that way, the creases on his wife’s face were ironed out.

Of course, that was only a facade. The couple actually stayed by the entrance, pacing back and forth from time to time. After all, even if Jin Chi trusted in Curator’s competence, there were always exceptions.

Inside the cave, Lin Jin had begun administering the treatment.

His Body-Recast Psyche-Refining Needle was considered the highest class of acupuncture techniques and its significance exceeded an immortal’s abilities. Even immortals might not have techniques that could mend souls.

Now that Lin Jin had the proficiency, the only thing he feared was being disturbed during the treatment process.

However, Lin Jin wasn’t the least bit worried.

A Rank 6 and Rank 5 monster was guarding the entrance after all. Sure enough, the process went smoothly.

Due to Jin Chi Jr’s young age, his soul wasn’t too forceful so it was an easy mending process.

With complete focus on his patient, Lin Jin began piecing together his soul bit by bit using the Psyche-Refining Needle. What the naked eye could see were golden sparkles like the twinkling stars in the night sky. An average person wouldn’t know how to deal with this, but Lin Jin pulled these shattered fragments together and sewed them back up.

Four hours went by in a flash. Not once did Lin Jin let his attention slip. It wasn’t until the last soul fragment was connected that he finally let out a sigh of relief.

The tediousness of this task was not something to underestimate. After all, mending shattered fragments required extra care. As souls didn’t have actual forms, the difficulty was akin to reconstructing a block of shattered tofu. Even the slightest mistake would make his efforts go to waste.

Fortunately, Lin Jin succeeded.

Junior was alright now. Based on his current condition, after recuperating for a few more days and allowing his soul to stabilize, he should be able to wake up from the coma.

Now, Lin Jin’s only question was who caused the boy to suffer such an injury.

Destroying a physical body wasn’t hard, but directly attacking the soul was challenging. No average person could have pulled this off.

Lin Jin called the worried couple back into the room where he announced the good news. Mrs. Jin Chi started crying tears of joy. Unable to fully express her excitement, she fell to her knees in gratitude.

Jin Chi was just as thrilled that he couldn’t conceal his mad delight. He too prostrated before Curator to express his gratitude.

Then, Lin Jin asked them about the story behind their son’s injury. At the mention of this topic, the couple’s expression darkened.

“To be honest, we don’t know how our son got hurt either. If we did, we would have reduced that person to ashes by now,” said Jin Chi with great resentment.

His wife added, “It’s all thanks to Curator’s phenomenal abilities that my poor son is saved. Once he wakes up, we will be able to find out.”

That was true.

Their son was barely able to escape with his life after sustaining such a severe injury. When he finally returned, he passed out without being able to say anything. That was why they had no idea who was behind this attack.

If they did, based on Jin Chi’s personality, he would never let the perpetrator off the hook.

“Alright. I’m actually curious about this too. Whoever can directly attack another’s soul definitely isn’t a normal person. Please seek my disciple and tell him what happened when your son regains his consciousness,” said Curator.

Now that the issue here was resolved, he had to return to the Dark Wind Monster Sect.

The couple did not dare to keep him back. Once again, Jin Chi personally ferried Curator and Lin Jin back to Dark Wind Cave.

Lin Jin was too impressed by Jin Chi’s speed. If he had a ride like this, he could probably go anywhere around the world.
