Chapter 3874: The Reputation Of The Three Clans

Chapter 3874: The Reputation Of The Three Clans

Countless eyes stared at the man from both sides of the street, but no one recognized him.

Still, the man was a Dukkhan, and every breath he took caused the ground to tremble. His exhalations were like the roars of a dragon.

Lu Yin stepped forward, appearing directly in front of the man.

The man looked at Lu Yin, revealing a rugged face and fierce and ruthless eyes. There was a faint, blood-colored shimmer to his blade as his gaze locked onto Lu Yin.

Lu Yin studied the man. No matter how fierce he might appear to be, he was nothing more than an ant. In Lu Yin’s eyes, that was all the man’s power could equate to.

“I am Gan Mo. I reached the ninth level of the Blood Tower, and I am a disciple of Greater Sancte Blood Tower.”

Lu Yin’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “You’re one of Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s disciples?”

From both sides of the street, all who heard this let out cries of shock. “A disciple of Greater Sancte Blood Tower?”

“Gan Mo? Now I remember—that’s him alright!”

“Blood Blade Gan Mo. He once fought his way to the Ninth Level of the Blood Tower with nothing but his blade and managed to become Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s disciple as a result. He later joined the Eighth Night Pillar and hasn’t been seen since. I can’t believe that he’s shown up now.”

“I heard that he wasn’t even a peak powerhouse when he first became Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s disciple. It’s hard to believe that he’s already overcoming Dukkha.”

“How could he have advanced so quickly?”

“He follows the Dao of Slaughter. Since his master is an Immortal, it only makes sense for his progress to be fast...”

The surrounding chatter offered Lu Yin a picture of the man before him. He was a genuine disciple of Greater Sancte Blood Tower.

Had this man really stayed in the Eighth Night Pillar for years on end? That was clearly not the case. Lu Yin could clearly feel a heavy aura of blood clinging to Gan Mo’s blade. This was a man who clearly lived amidst slaughter.

“You block my way. Why?” Lu Yin asked.

Gan Mo stared at Lu Yin. “I owe the Cheng family a debt. Long ago, they sent me to the Ninth Level of the Blood Tower. That is a debt that I intend to repay.”

Lu Yin nodded. “Debts should be repaid. So, you want to stop me?”

Gan Mo clenched the hilt of his blade tighter. He stared at Lu Yin for a long time. “My blade can’t stop you... but I hope that my identity can.”

Lu Yin smiled faintly. “For Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s sake, I’ll give you one incense stick’s worth of time. The Cheng family can either turn Cheng Gong over to me, or they can continue to prepare during that time. They can bring as many experts as they like.”

Gan Mo’s tone dropped low. “Only one incense stick?”

Lu Yin clasped his hands behind his back. “Just one.”

Gan Mo slowly raised his long blade to point it at Lu Yin. At that moment, the entire universe seemed to change color, and countless people suddenly smelled the scent of blood in the air. Expressions changed; was Gan Mo really going to attack?

“This blade once carved a path to the Ninth Level of the Blood Tower, where the Cheng family sent me. Today, I will return this blade to them.”

With that, Gan Mo leapt into the air, his blade raised high to slash down at Lu Yin.

At that instant, the countless eyes watching thought that they had to be hallucinating. Time seemed to warp as the void overlapped. They saw multiple Gan Mos, as well as more than one Lu Yin. Someone was using the mighty power of time.

Gray streams flowed along the edge of the blade. As Gan Mo’s slash fell, waves of power erupted from his body, producing gusts of wind that swept through the area. Finally, the power shot up, splitting the sky above Skyveil City.

Countless people stared on in amazement.

It was just a single slash, and yet it was unimaginably powerful. Even seasoned Dukkhans feel suffocated by the pressure of Gan Mo’s strike.

Despite its power, the attack was stopped, caught between two fingers. The blade could not fall so much as another inch.

Gan Mo stared in disbelief at the two fingers pinching his blade. Impossible!

“Impossible!” someone else shouted. A short ways away from the main street stood a middle-aged man, whose expression belied even more shock than Gan Mo.

This man was also a Dukkhan, and he possessed an innate gift that allowed him to clearly perceive others’ strength. Gan Mo’s slash had been far more complicated than its appearance. After all, it contained the power of time of Greater Sancte Blood Tower. While it had appeared to be just a single slash, it had been powerful enough to force a peak Dukkhan to retreat.

The middle-aged man had been focusing on Gan Mo’s slash, so his innate gift had revealed the attack’s true power to him. He was absolutely certain that just one strike would be enough to cut him down, as he felt utterly powerless to resist it.

And yet, Lu Yin had caught it... with just two fingers.

How was this even possible?

No one could believe it. While they had all already known that Lu Yin was stronger than Gan Mo, could the gap between them really be this vast? Gan Mo was not just any Dukkhan. He had fought his way to the Ninth Level of the Blood Tower, earned Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s admiration, and then learned the Immortal’s battle techniques. Just based on the battle techniques that he had learned, Gan Mo was undoubtedly qualified to enter the Scion Spire.

Had an attack from such a person... really been caught by just two fingers? That had to be a joke.

Lu Yin stood in the street, one hand still behind his back while the other held Gan Mo’s blade in place. “There is a man in the Tianyuan by the name of Chu Yuan. He is quite adept at using the power of time. His strongest battle technique is called the Realm of Time, and it uses subtle moments of frozen time to unleash a single, explosive attack. While it looks like a single slash, when he uses it at full power, he can deliver more than a dozen attacks, possibly more.

“The slash that you just used has the same essence: freezing time and condensing attacks to strike twelve times at the same instant. The explosive force is quite terrifying. As expected of Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s disciple.”

As Lu Yin finished speaking, a ripple of power ran down the blade, and it forced Gan Mo’s hand to open, as he staggered several steps back.

Lu Yin casually tossed the blade aside. It shot past Gan Mo, ripping open a tear in the void that sliced down the long street. Finally, the blade stabbed into the Cheng family’s gates, having left a massive fissure down the street.

Everyone stared in horror, only at this moment realizing just how terrifying Lu Yin was.

At the far end of the street, the Cheng family members trembled in fear as Baisha Tiancheng’s face twisted into a terrible expression. Their family could only use the favor that Gan Mo owed them a single time, but not even that had been enough to stop Lu Yin. The man refused to yield or show Greater Sancte Blood Tower a bit of face.

Gan Mo stood in the street, shaken by what had just happened as he stared at Lu Yin. He wanted to strike again, not for the Cheng family, but for himself.

He wanted to clearly experience the gap that lay between himself and the man before him.

But... was he even capable of seeing it?

“What kind of person is Greater Sancte Blood Tower?” Lu Yin asked.

Gan Mo froze. “What?”

“I asked, what kind of person is Greater Sancte Blood Tower?” Lu Yin repeated.

Gan Mo was puzzled. “Why are you asking this?”

Lu Yin smiled. “I’m curious, of course. Who wouldn’t be curious about one of the Immortal Greater Sancti?”

Gan Mo thought for a moment but felt that it was quite a reasonable question. “I don’t really know how to say it. Master...”

There was a long moment’s hesitation. “...I don’t know.”

Lu Yin arched a brow, and Gan Mo quickly added, “I really am not sure how to describe him, but Master isn’t quite what everyone imagines him to be.”

“Alright then.” Lu Yin did not press the matter. It appeared that Gan Mo was a rather inarticulate person.

Lu Yin had heard a little about Ninth Level of the Blood Tower. Legends claimed that anyone who fought their way to that level could become Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s disciple.

All three of the Greater Sancti had their own ways of accepting disciples. Greater Sancte Green Lotus sent out karmic buds. Greater Sancte Awe Gate had the Frightened Sparrow Terrace. As for Greater Sancte Blood Tower, there was the Blood Tower, which gave every cultivator in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse an opportunity.

However, of the three methods, the Nine Levels of the Blood Tower was by far the most brutal.

Since ancient times, there had never been a lack of powerhouses in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse who had pursued the Dao of Slaughter, but all of them had failed.

Some had even been talented enough to qualify to enter the Scion Spire, but they had still failed.

Throughout all of history, Greater Sancte Blood Tower had only ever accepted a few disciples, but they also had the highest casualty rate out of all of the Immortals’ disciples. Blood Tower’s disciples always led the vanguard in the Nine Odysseys’ wars. Just looking at Gan Mo made it easy to see.

Everyone had the impression that Greater Sancte Blood Tower was likely someone similar to Gan Mo, filled with an endless desire for slaughter.

However, according to Gan Mo, that might not actually be the case.

Gan Mo was not stupid, and yet he was unable to find the words to answer Lu Yin’s question. Clearly, Greater Sancte Blood Tower had left an extraordinary impression on his disciple.

“If Master had been the one to use that attack, there’s no chance that you could have caught it,” Gan Mo suddenly said.

When Lu Yin chuckled and opened his mouth to reply, Gan Mo added, “Even with my same cultivation.”

Lu Yin arched a brow. That was something that he absolutely did not believe.

While the Immortal Greater Sancti were certainly strong, aside from the fact that they were Immortals, Lu Yin did not believe that anyone could match him, provided they had the same cultivation level as him. Not even Greater Sancte Green Lotus, despite having mastered the power of karma, could do that. After all, Lu Yin had cultivated not only the power of karma, but he also possessed unmatched physical strength and the power of Word Manifestation. He genuinely could not imagine who could surpass him at the same cultivation level.

The time to burn one stick of incense passed quickly, with nothing at all changing within Skyveil City.

The Cheng family had not brought in any additional reinforcements. All that had changed was that the people watching had retreated a bit farther.

Lu Yin picked up a foot and took another step forward, moving past Gan Mo. Another step delivered him just outside of the Cheng family’s home. There was no longer any reason to walk slowly.

As he examined the enormous gate before him, Lu Yin noted how impressive its construction was. There were countless sourcebox arrays embedded into the gate, fixed in place by the strange carving technique that was unique to the Skyveil Megaverse. To Lu Yin, the gate even felt a bit similar to the Skyward Gate.

If he forced his way forward, the gate’s defense would surely be enough to shake the universe.

On one side of the gate stood Lu Yin, and on the other side, the entire Cheng family had gathered.

All eyes in Skyveil City were drawn to Lu Yin at this moment. All of them were wondering what he would do next. Would he really target the entire Cheng family just because of Cheng Gong alone? After all, the Cheng family had publicly expelled Cheng Gong from the family just a short while earlier, severing all ties with the man. For Lu Yin to continue attacking the family after that would be rather excessive.

“It’s said that the Cheng family’s gate represents the reputation of the three great clans. While they all compete with each other, they also rule Skyveil City together and have joined forces against outsiders on more than one occasion. Of the three families, the Cheng family’s gate is the hardest to break through. It’s said to be carved with eighty spirit treasure formations. It’s unimaginable,” a distant voice murmured. Even if the person spoke quietly, their words were audible to Lu Yin.

His eyes flickered. Eighty sourcebox arrays carved into one gate? So many?

Another voice spoke up from roughly the same direction as the first. “Skyveil City’s three great clans each comprehended a different legacy of the Skyveil Megaverse. The Yu family is famous for their spirit treasure formations, having delved into the most profound mysteries of spirit treasure formations. Given enough time, they can supposedly arrange formations that can overpower ten peak Dukkhans.

“Five of the Night Pillars once joined forces to attack the Skyveil Megaverse, and they suffered terribly because of their spirit treasure formations.

“The Cheng family pursues carving spirit treasures’ danger zones, which means that they rarely do any standard lockbreaking or arranging of spirit treasure formations. They’re said to have mastered a thousand different danger zones, and they judge their mastery by how many they can carve in an instant. Their current patriarch, Baisha Tiancheng, can supposedly carve twelve in one breath, unleashing unlimited power.

“The Jue family masters Linear Insight, but they don’t dabble much in Primal Arraywork. Still, both the Yu family’s Script Arrays and the Cheng family’s carved formations draw on Linear Insight at their core. In the Skyveil Megaverse, Linear Insight was once the only art that could stand toe-to-toe with Spirit Arrays, and on occasion it even outstripped them.”

That person spoke at length, and his voice continuously reached Lu Yin’s ears.

Lu Yin was not stupid, and it was clear to him that both speakers were explaining things to him. Both clearly favored him.

Other people simply whispered between each other, and no one else bothered to offer such detailed explanations for Lu Yin.

His foot rose again, and he continued walking towards the Cheng family gate. When he was only a hundred meters away, a voice reached his ears. “I am Yu Jing, the patriarch of Skyveil City’s Yu family. I know a bit about the enmity between you and Cheng Gong. However, Cheng Gong has already been expelled by the Cheng family. I hope that you will not target the entire Cheng family, Mr. Lu.”
