Chapter 3873: The Netherfiends
Greater Sancte Mi Jin was the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Immortal who had died.
At its peak, the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had boasted four Immortal Greater Sancti and five Lesser Sancti. However, only three of each Sancti remained now, which was a far cry from the megaverse’s former glory.
“What power was that?” Lu Yin asked.
Gu Jing did not conceal anything, as he had recognized Lu Yin. “The Netherfiends.”
“Netherfiends?” Lu Yin asked in confusion.
Gu Jing proceeded to explain, “That’s the name given to anyone who uses that power. Before Greater Sancte Mi Jin died, there were Netherfiends all throughout the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. If you want to know more, you’ll need to go to Deathmound and ask the Great Master, as I don’t know any more details.”
Lu Yin nodded. He had found a lead.
There was no doubt that Yue Ya had known about both Yong Heng and the Netherfiends. That was why, in the Consciousness Megaverse, he had only avoided Yong Heng even though he had tried to form alliances with everyone else to devour Lu Yin’s consciousness.
It was clear that the power of the Netherfiends was forbidden in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.
Did that mean that the people of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse were genuinely unaware that the Netherfiends’ power had entered the Tianyuan? That it had even given rise to Aeternus?
Or perhaps... Lu Yin suddenly thought of Master Qing Cao.
Master Qing Cao was also an Immortal, which meant that it would not have been impossible for him to cover such things up, if he had so desired.
How else could he explain why Master Qing Cao had stayed in the Tianyuan instead of returning to the Spirit Nidus? If the man had truly wanted to reset the Tianyuan Megaverse, he could have done so long ago.
Truthfully, Lu Yin still had no idea what Master Qing Cao’s real goals or desires were.
It was possible that the Netherfiends could provide some answers.
“If the Netherfiends are involved, then it’s perfectly normal for there to be absolutely no traces to follow. According to Deathmound’s records, every time the Netherfiends' power has appeared, the matter has ended inconclusively, with nothing to be found,” Gu Jing explained, “If you want Ling Kui, he’s yours.”
Lu Yin shook his head. “That’s not necessary. I already learned what I needed.”
“Have you met Gu Duanke?” Gu Jing suddenly asked.
Lu Yin nodded and then immediately noticed that the two men shared the same surname. Could it be?
Gu Jing looked at Lu Yin. “Is there a gap between me and him?”
Lu Yin replied, “While I haven’t fought him, judging just by your auras, yes, there is a gap.”
Gu Jing looked away, clearly deep in thought.
“Your enemy isn’t... Gu Duanke, is it?” Lu Yin asked.
Gu Jing’s voice dropped low. “He killed my mother. I will kill him.”
Lu Yin did not know what to say. Gu Duanke had seemed like a decent person, but that was only at present. Lu Yin could not say how Gu Duanke might have been in the past.
For a person to rise up and be recognized as the greatest swordsman in the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse, the man had to have once been completely obsessed with the sword.
Hatred: there was simply too much of it in the cultivation world.
Gu Jing and Gu Duanke were clearly part of the same clan, and yet the two were bound by such complex hatred.
Lu Yin had no desire to learn the details of their mess. “Have you been refining your sword skills just to surpass Gu Duanke?”
“So that I can kill him,” Gu Jing clarified. After that, his gaze dimmed. “I still need to wait. Surpassing the Sword Sovereign of the Nine Odysseys is not at all easy. I need to continue waiting.”
Lu Yin did not want to continue the conversation. “What happened with the stone box that Long Yin took back to Deathmound after it was found in the Autumnspring Slip? Did the Great Master learn anything?”
Gu Jing replied, “That’s the Third Peak’s affair. I didn’t ask.”
“That stone box is also related to the Netherfiends,” Lu Yin said.
Gu Jing was surprised. “Are you certain?”
“Absolutely.”
“Thank you.”
Ultimately, Gu Jing and Kou Feng left with Ling Kui, while Si Jiushi parted ways with Lu Yin.
Lu Yin did not try to stop the fat man, and he merely stated that he would eventually visit the Five-Palm Sect as a guest.
That remark terrified Si Jiushi to the point where, even after separating from Lu Yin, the man still did not dare to return to the Five-Palm Sect. In fact, Si Jiushi even went so far as to warn Mr. Tingchao to stay hidden, if at all possible. Even though it had felt great to stand beside Lu Yin and borrow his power and influence, that entire experience had been far too stressful. Who could guess who the man’s next enemy would be? There was a chance that it might even be a Greater Sancte.
Lu Yin went to Skyveil City unaccompanied.
There, he intended to settle matters with Cheng Gong and also complete his next task.
If Spirit Treasure City and Senluo City were considered fairly large metropolises, then Skyveil City was a behemoth that could encapsulate entire stars.
Despite the place being called a city, when Lu Yin saw it, he felt that it would have been more appropriate to call it a galaxy cluster.
Skyveil City covered a vast portion of the center of the West Domain’s center. Cities like Spirit Treasure City were not even remotely comparable. Cultivators streamed to and from the city in all directions, and even the endless sand of the West Domain seemed insignificant before the metropolis.
The suffocating auras radiating from the place served to prevent the many cultivators who entered the city from acting rashly.
Just a glance was enough for Lu Yin to sense that there were at least three peak Dukkhans and possibly more than ten Dukkhans present. As for Ortusers, they seemed to lurk around every corner of the city.
The West Domain’s strongest faction that was a part of the Temporal Heavens was Skyveil City. However, the city was not a single faction, but instead jointly controlled by its three great clans. It was said that even a Lesser Sancte needed the three clans’ consent before they did anything in the city.
Of course, that was a bit exaggerated, but it served to demonstrate just how powerful the three clans were.
Even the overall situation in the Spirit Nidus was influenced by the Yu and Cheng families.
In the Spirit Nidus, Lu Yin had crossed wits with members of both families on more than one occasion before. Old Yu had plotted against Lu Yin several different times, and Cheng Gong had secretly worked against Lu Yin multiple times as well. Rather than say that Lesser Sancte Yue Ya had directed the two against Lu Yin, it was more apt to say that they had tried to use Yue Ya to advance their own goals.
Both Old Yu and Cheng Gong had been using Lesser Sancte Yue Ya.
Of course, they had also been used by Yue Ya at the same time.
Yue Ya had promised to help Cheng Gong become a Lesser Sancte. While Lu Yin had once believed that to be a credible promise, looking back, he saw it as nothing more than a joke.
Forget the fact that Cheng Gong was not even a peak Dukkhan and could never possibly reach the combat strength of a Lesser Sancte, but there were also other issues. He was a member of the Cheng family, had never been a part of the Nine Odysseys, and had never developed his own cultivation system. All of those were requirements to become a Lesser Sancte. Thus, it was a title that Cheng Gong could never hope to acquire.
Had Cheng Gong himself not known that? Of course he had. However, he needed such a ridiculous promise in order to stand at Yue Ya’s side. Because Yue Ya had been pursuing the Immortal realm, regardless of whether he succeeded, the Cheng family had to bet on him. That was the reason for Yue Ya’s ridiculous promise, and the Cheng family had taken it.
Old Yu had been no different. He had done everything possible to connect with Yue Ya and help him deal with Lu Yin, but ultimately, Lu Yin had been the one to help the man get close to Yue Ya. That connection had eventually led to Yue Ya trying to fish Lu Yin out of the Spirit Nidus, who had turned the trap around and tried to drag Yue Ya out of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Everyone had understood the situation, but no one had said anything directly.
Given all that had happened, was the Cheng family still secretly scheming something? Were they playing another game of mutual exploitation? If so, who was their target? Lu Yin’s characters had rained from the sky of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, so it was impossible for Cheng Gong to not know that Lu Yin had arrived and would eventually try to settle the score with him. The Cheng family had publicly claimed to have sent Cheng Gong away, and they had even announced that he had been expelled from the family, but was any of that true?
Ling Kui had verified that Cheng Gong was still within the Cheng family. They were clearly still playing games.
Lu Yin took a step forward, entering Skyveil City. He wanted to see what the Cheng family thought they could stop him with.
The moment that Lu Yin appeared in Skyveil City, eyes locked onto him, and the atmosphere of the entire city changed. More and more gazes were drawn to him as one expert after another appeared and moved towards the Cheng family’s home.
Lu Yin showed a hint of a smile. He had not bothered to alter his appearance or conceal his presence at all. Was there any need for such things? Unless one of the Immortal Great Sancti took action, no one in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse could stop him.
With Lu Yin’s current strength, if he still acted timid, how would he ever be able to move about the Nine Odysseys Megaverse freely?
The Cheng family had made their preparations long ago, and Lu Yin was quite curious to see just how impressive those preparations were.
He was in no hurry, so he walked down the bustling main street of Skyveil City in the same manner as an ordinary human. Each step brought him closer to the Cheng family. The long street stretched across the city; one end was connected to the entrance of the city, while the other led to a picturesque garden. That garden was the Cheng family’s residence, and it was at the very end of the long street.
When one looked at the entirety of Skyveil City, the Cheng, Yu, and Jue families occupied three distinct regions of the city. When combined, their private holdings formed an entire third of the massive city.
When the Cheng family learned that Lu Yin had entered Skyveil City, all of their cultivators stepped out, grim expressions on their faces. Some grew pale, visibly nervous, and uneasy. As expected, Lu Yin had come.
The current patriarch of the Cheng family, Baisha Tiancheng, was a lean old man with piercing eyes. Despite his advanced age that was approaching the end of his lifespan, the man’s aura remained impressive.
He looked up, his eyes sweeping across the Cheng family’s gardens to look down the long street at the young man who was slowly walking towards them. This day... had finally arrived.
Ever since the Cheng family had learned that Lu Yin had single-handedly destroyed the Autumnspring Slip in the East Domain, they had realized that this day was inevitable. They simply had not expected it to arrive so soon.
No one spoke. The Cheng family remained completely silent.
From two other directions, the Yu and Jue families were also staring down the long street.
At this moment, it seemed as if the destinies of Skyveil City’s three great clans had fallen into the hands of the young man who was slowly walking toward the Cheng family.
In addition to the three great clans, there were also countless other experts present in Skyveil City. Some were aligned with the Temporal Heavens, while others were part of the Nine Odysseys. There were even outsiders from foreign megaverses, some of whom were even considered otherborn.
Crowds converged onto the city’s main street, with all eyes staring at Lu Yin from a distance. People recognized him, and they all knew that Lu Yin had arrived.
When his characters had rained down upon the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, the character “Vengeance” had landed right on Skyveil City. Everyone in the city had seen scenes of Lu Yin’s hatred and ruthlessness. It was as if they had seen the Cheng family’s fate. From that day on, the Cheng family had grown quiet. Few had visited them, and their bustling businesses had all faded away as everyone anticipated the arrival of this day.
How would this man exact his revenge on the Cheng family?
Skyveil City had never been this quiet before. It was a terrifying, suffocating quiet.
The taverns that lined the street were already full of people, though not a single soul stood on the street itself. There was only Lu Yin walking down it, completely alone.
“Is that the Tianyuan Megaverse’s Lu Yin? He doesn’t look so impressive.”
“He destroyed the Autumnspring Slip entirely on his own! How many others in our megaverse can do the same thing?”
...
“The Cheng family’s been waiting for him all this time, but Cheng Gong left Skyveil City long ago. Is he really going to exact revenge on the entire Cheng family?”
...
“He provoked the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, but he also vowed to protect humanity, saying that he entered our megaverse to represent the Tianyuan. If he simply wipes out the entire Cheng family, how will he ever become a part of our Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”
...
“Brother, I want to be like him one day! Walking alone, with no one daring to come near me!”
...
A single man had cleared the entire street, forcing all of Skyveil City to come to a halt, just so that they could watch him.
Not even the patriarchs of the three great clans could do such a thing. Skyveil City had never stopped for a single person before. This was the very first time.
Each step that Lu Yin took looked perfectly ordinary, yet he passed through the void with each one. An ordinary human could spend their entire lifetime walking down the street and never reach the end, but Lu Yin only took the time for a stick of incense to burn.
He had already given the Cheng family more than enough time to prepare. He was eager to see what they possibly believed could stop him, someone who had been personally acknowledged by Greater Sancte Green Lotus as the fourth strongest individual in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Aside from the three Immortal Greater Sancti, who else could stop Lu Yin?
Before long, someone stood on the street, blocking Lu Yin’s path as he looked at them.
A man was standing in the street, holding a blade. He towered at least three meters tall and radiated a wild, violent aura that gave the impression that he was a humanoid beast.
