"Hmm?" She was angry, but Sheffield had no clue why.
Evelyn raised her high heel-clad foot and stomped on Sheffield's. He was only wearing a slipper, so the heel dug into his flesh. "Ouch..." In pain, Sheffield let go of her instantly.
Evelyn took the chance to jog towards the door and fled the ward, thoroughly embarrassed.
Sheffield, left alone in the ward, sat on the bed. He was no less confused, and now had an injured foot as well.
'What happened to her? Why did she get angry all of a sudden?'
A few minutes later, he calmed down and closed the curtains. Then he turned on his computer.
He opened a surveillance video and fast forwarded through it.
As he thought, several minutes of video were missing.
Sheffield ran a hand through his hair as he browsed the network shares. He found where the saboteur had hidden the surveillance videos and restored all of them.
The benefit to getting all the video back? He could see who sabotaged his race car.
However, he didn't recognize the guy, so he ran the man's image through an online background check. Fortunately, there was information in the database, and in less than 5 minutes he had a wealth of data on the guy.
Armed with this info, Sheffield was sure he could track this guy down.
He closed his laptop and texted Evelyn. "You home yet?"
Evelyn didn't want to reply to his message, but it was already past 1 a.m. Afraid that he might be too worried to sleep, she replied, "Yeah."
When he saw her reply, he grinned and tapped out a reply.
"Good. I'll let you go, so you can get some sleep. Just remember to climb in my bed when you're free."
Evelyn was rendered speechless. Why didn't she take her dad up on his offer to teach her martial arts? If she had, she'd be able to teach Sheffield a good lesson when he made her mad. Evelyn hadn't called or texted him since that night.
Strangely, he didn't contact her either, not even a message.
Evelyn was worried. She wondered whether he was getting better or worse.
However, Evelyn was still nursing a grudge. Sheffield asked her to call him "daddy" the other night, so she was too embarrassed to talk to him after that.
So, without anyone noticing, Evelyn asked Tayson to take her to Sheffield's apartment, and she waited outside the apartment complex, hidden in the shadows.
Around 11 p.m, a man pulled into his parking space, locked the car, and walked towards the apartment building.
The man was dressed in a black windbreaker. A gust caught his clothes, and they billowed dramatically. He looked handsome and cool in the dark night.
He suddenly felt something wrong, like someone was following him. He stopped and looked around.
There was nothing suspicious except a black car parked a little distance away.
But this car was suspicious, because it was not in the parking lot and there was someone in it.
The driver seemed to notice he'd been spotted, as he started the car, and began to pull away.
Sheffield ran as fast as he could, jumped in front of the car, and blocked the way with his arms.
Sheffield briefly wondered when he'd feel the car hit him.
Luckily, the car screeched to a halt just in the nick of time.
When he saw Tayson in the driver's seat, Sheffield grinned from ear to ear.
The lights were off in the car, so he couldn't see who was in the back seat. But if Tayson was here, then Evelyn surely was.
He ran to the car door and knocked on the car window. "Evelyn," he called.
Evelyn was annoyed. She didn't think Sheffield would have caught on so soon. Since there was no need to hide anymore, she rolled down the window and looked at the man outside the car with a neutral expression
The moment Sheffield saw her, his face lit up. He stuck his head into the car and said excitedly, "Evelyn, did you come here to sleep with me?"
The wounds on his face had healed, and there was a broad smile on his fair face. Evelyn didn't bother to dignify his question with a response. "Tayson, just drive."
"Okay, okay. I won't tease you anymore. Come on, get out of the car. Let me give you a kiss!" It was his fault. He had been too busy with his research to call or text Evelyn.
Evelyn ordered again, "Drive!" The car moved a little.
Tayson only inched forward, mainly to avoid hurting Sheffield. His head was still fully inside the car. If Tayson zoomed off, he'd have Sheffield's detached head rolling in the back seat.
"Evelyn, I was wrong. I was just kidding. Please get out of the car. Aren't you worried I'm hurt?" he apologized.
It was not until then that Evelyn remembered why she came here tonight.
She decided to let it go.
She adjusted her clothes and unlocked the car door.
As soon as she did that, Sheffield ripped open the door. He got into the car and got the woman out.
Then he pressed Evelyn against the car. She couldn't move.
"Evelyn, I'm sorry I haven't been around. I've been super-busy," he said, after kissing her on the lips.
When he was about to kiss her again, Evelyn covered his lips and said, "Behave."
He nodded.
"You all right?"
He nodded again.
Evelyn finally put her hand down.
Sheffield looked in the rearview mirror and met Tayson's eyes. He grinned and asked, "Hey, if I said your bodyguard liked you, would you believe it?"
"No. Why would I?" she replied decisively.
Although she knew a lot of people liked her, she was not dumb enough to think that everyone did.
Sheffield put his hands on the car, on either side of her. "Remember, I am the one who loves you the most! No matter what happens, don't run off with another guy."
"No way! The man that loves me the most is my dad."
Sheffield smiled. "You're wrong there. Your dad loves your mom the most. I'm the one who loves you the most and I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Evelyn had nothing to say to that. He was right. Carlos loved Debbie more than anything. "But Dad loves me too, more than anyone else." Although she was angry her dad wouldn't let her be with Sheffield, she knew why.
Carlos did what he thought was best for her.
Sheffield grabbed her hand and whispered gently in her ear with a wicked smile. "Evelyn, remember, I'm the one who loves you the most, not your dad."
His breath was so warm that Evelyn was turned on. To hide her blushing face, she pushed him away and said, "Go upstairs. I'm going home."
"So soon? But I just got here!" said Sheffield sadly.
The longer she looked at him, the more reluctant she was to part with him. "See you later." Tonight, she promised her father she would come back to the manor. She couldn't be out too late.
Sheffield pulled her into his arms, kissing her affectionately.
