Chapter 1027: Interested To The Prize On The Second Place

Chapter 1027: Chapter 1027: Interested To The Prize On The Second Place

"The second-place winner will receive a special chance to choose an item of their choice from the general repository, a life-saving elixir, a Detox Poison Pill, and a Breakthrough Pill. As for the third-place finisher, they will receive a Detox Poison Pill and a Breakthrough Pill." Ji Yuan replied, tracking her sudden shift in energy.

Hearing this, Bai Xifeng immediately became intensely interested all over again, leaning halfway over the table.

"That custom chance to choose a specific item... What kind of items are we talking about exactly? Can it be anything?" Bai Xifeng asked excitedly, her eyes wide with anticipation.

"It depends on the availability, but generally, yes." Ji Yuan stated.

"So, if I theoretically ask the school for an incredibly rare medicinal herb as my prize, can the academy administration provide it for me from their deep reserves?" Bai Xifeng asked eagerly, her heart thumping.

"Well, I don’t know the exact limits of the repository, about that." Ji Yuan shrugged casually.

A bright, triumphant grin immediately spread all the way across Bai Xifeng’s face, her goal completely set.

"I will just aim for second place then!" Bai Xifeng declared confidently, clapping her hands together.

Ji Yuan paused dead in the middle of picking up a piece of food, his chopsticks hovering in the air as he looked blankly at her.

"Why not aim for first place instead?" Ji Yuan asked, genuinely puzzled by her backwards logic.

Bai Xifeng rolled her eyes toward the ceiling, letting out a small huff. "Why would I ever want to aim for first place? I am completely uninterested in those top rewards."

Ji Yuan raised a sharp eyebrow, his tone incredulous. "You are telling me you are not interested in entering the legendary Shunan Treasure Room and taking one of the peerless artifacts stored inside? The artifacts are genuine, world-class treasures. A massive lot of students would fight desperately, risking their very lives, just for a singular opportunity like that."

Ji Yuan deliberately emphasised the grandeur of the first-place prize, trying his best to spark a competitive fire inside Bai Xifeng’s spirit. Unfortunately for him, the calculated attempt failed completely and utterly.

"Not interested." Bai Xifeng replied without a single moment’s hesitation or doubt.

Her answer was so immediate, firm, and casual that Ji Yuan almost suspected she had not even bothered to listen to the entire description of the treasures.

Ji Yuan silently stared at his strange student, a heavy pause settling between them. His student was truly an enigma compared to the rest of the cultivation world. Other students within the academy would fight tooth and nail, bleeding out on the arena stage, just for a sliver of a chance to enter the Shunan Treasure Room. Many would be more than willing to suffer permanent, severe injuries just for the mere opportunity to obtain one of the legendary treasures guarded inside.

Yet, Bai Xifeng looked completely indifferent, even bored by the prospect. To her unique mind, those highly coveted, priceless artifacts seemed no more valuable than ordinary, dusty stones lying by the generic roadside.

What truly caught her undivided attention and made her eyes spark was the vague, unconfirmed possibility of obtaining a single rare herb. Sometimes, even an expert as perceptive as Ji Yuan found it absolutely difficult to understand exactly how her chaotic mind worked.

....

The next morning, the sun had barely broken over the horizon when Bai Xifeng headed straight toward the school’s towering Cultivation Pagoda. Because it was still incredibly early in the morning, the usually bustling plaza was completely deserted.

There was absolutely no one around except for the lone guard stationed at the grand entrance. The guard blinked sleepily, looking up in genuine surprise at the sight of a student arriving at the Cultivation Pagoda at such an ungodly hour.

"I want to spend ten hours inside the Cultivation Pagoda." Bai Xifeng stated flatly, stepping up to the counter.

"What?" The guard was instantly startled, his jaw dropping slightly when he heard the massive, uninterrupted block of time Bai Xifeng wanted to reserve inside.

"Ten hours, please. Go ahead and register it on my student badge." Bai Xifeng repeated patiently, handing her metallic identification badge over to the man.

The guard took the badge, still looking sceptical, and scanned it into the school’s internal system. The exact moment her official point balance flashed brightly across the monitor, he nearly choked on his own saliva. His eyes widened to the size of saucers. How on earth could a student, especially a freshman who had just entered the academy, possess such a jaw-dropping, astronomical amount of contribution points?

Even though his mind was practically bursting with curiosity, the overwhelming aura she projected made him realise he did not dare question her. Instead, he kept his mouth firmly shut, quietly completed the registration procedure, and promptly allowed Bai Xifeng to enter the heavy gates of the Cultivation Pagoda.

Bai Xifeng walked calmly into the towering, ancient structure. Once she crossed the threshold, she immediately spotted the grand staircase she had encountered during her previous visit. The last time she was here, she had been entirely unable to step onto the staircase due to her level restrictions. This time, however, she walked toward it without a single shred of hesitation and immediately began climbing the stone steps.

Under normal circumstances, ascending a flight of stairs would only take a brief moment of physical effort. However, as she continued her steady ascent, Bai Xifeng gradually began to realise that something was fundamentally wrong. The staircase seemed unusually, unnaturally long, far longer than the physical dimensions of the building should have allowed.

Step after step, she continued climbing upward through the dim light. Eventually, after what felt like an eternity, she finally spotted the end of the staircase just ahead.
