Chapter 1026: Chapter 1026: Ji Yuan Came Back
A moment later, she slowly blinked her eyes open, and her vision cleared to see Ji Yuan sitting quietly on the chair beside her. Her eyes immediately widened in surprise.
"Teacher Ji?" Bai Xifeng quickly sat up straight as a board, smoothing down her wrinkled robes and correcting her posture to look respectful.
"Hmm..." Ji Yuan responded calmly, his voice smooth and even. "If you want to sleep so soundly, you should return to the comfort of your own room."
Bai Xifeng stretched lazily, arching her back and rubbing the back of her neck to ease the stiffness. It had been a surprisingly comfortable and refreshing nap.
"Well, I was originally waiting right here for you so we could start class. Where did you go anyway?" Bai Xifeng asked, before suddenly raising a hand to cut herself off. "Oh... Never mind. No need to tell me."
Ji Yuan certainly did not owe her an explanation for his whereabouts. Besides, if she were being completely honest, she was not particularly interested in knowing his private business anyway. She simply assumed that if Ji Yuan actually wanted her to know something, he would eventually tell her himself.
"By the way, are we still having class today?" Bai Xifeng quickly changed the subject, hoping to gauge his mood.
"No. You can have the day off today." Ji Yuan stated flatly.
"Oh, great!" Bai Xifeng grinned widely, her eyes lighting up.
Her mood immediately skyrocketed at the wonderful news. Without wasting a single second of her newfound free time, she began taking out the various foods she had purchased in the city earlier that afternoon. One delicious item after another materialised from the depths of her storage rune and was carefully placed onto the wide wooden table between them. Before long, a wide variety of hot dishes, sweet buns, and savoury snacks had been arranged neatly in a mouthwatering spread.
Seeing the vast amount of non-regulation food spread out directly before him, Ji Yuan instantly knew that absolutely none of it had been purchased within the school grounds. The academy’s standard dining halls simply did not sell these particular, flavorful dishes.
"Where exactly did you get this food?" Ji Yuan asked, raising a single eyebrow inquisitively.
"I bought it." Bai Xifeng answered honestly, leaning forward.
"This food is not sold anywhere here. So where did you buy it?" Ji Yuan asked again, his tone narrowing.
"I bought it in the city." Bai Xifeng replied, her voice suddenly dropping into a much smaller, meek murmur.
Then, she suddenly remembered a very important detail, and her anxious expression immediately brightened up again.
Bai Xifeng took out the permission letter that she got from Zhou Yaoting and showed it to Ji Yuan.
"Oh, right!" Bai Xifeng quickly spoke up, this time returning to her normal, confident tone. "I had official permission from Teacher Zhou of the Armament Master Division to leave the campus!"
To prove her point, Bai Xifeng immediately reached into her pouch, took out the signed permission letter she had received from Zhou Yaoting, and proudly handed the document over for Ji Yuan to see.
Ji Yuan only glanced at the written permission for a brief, fleeting second before shifting his gaze away entirely. He did not seem interested in examining the official seal any further.
Seeing that Ji Yuan was not planning to make a massive fuss or punish her for leaving the school grounds, Bai Xifeng secretly let out a massive sigh of relief. The absolute last thing she wanted to do was sit through a gruelling lecture about rules after spending such a pleasant, relaxing day outside the walls.
"I am far too lazy to cook anything myself today, so let’s just eat this together instead." Bai Xifeng said happily, using her chopsticks to push some of the best-looking and most fragrant dishes directly toward him.
"Hmm..." Ji Yuan responded softly, his voice low.
Even though his stern expression remained just as indifferent and unreadable as ever, he did not reject the thoughtful offering. Instead, he quietly picked up his own wooden utensils and joined her for the casual meal, setting a relaxed pace.
For a while, the comfortable silence returned to the room, and only the soft clicking sounds of chopsticks hitting porcelain dishes could be heard echoing through the empty division building.
"The inter-division competition is scheduled for next month. Are you truly ready for what is to come?" Ji Yuan suddenly asked, breaking the silence as he kept his eyes on his plate.
"I think so." Bai Xifeng nodded confidently, her cheeks slightly puffed out while she chewed on her food.
"I happened to hear about the specific prizes being offered for the competition this morning." Ji Yuan stated in a conversational tone.
The very moment the word "prizes" left his mouth, Bai Xifeng immediately stopped chewing. She froze mid-bite, swallowed quickly, and turned her head to look at Ji Yuan with sparkling, intensely focused eyes. Her curiosity and interest were instantly piqued to the maximum. She had been wondering for weeks what kind of lucrative rewards the academy would offer for such an exceptionally important and highly anticipated event.
"The first-place winner of the tournament will be officially allowed to enter the restricted Shunan Treasure Room and personally choose one powerful artifact from within its vaults. In addition to that honour, they will also receive a guaranteed, coveted spot in the upcoming Inter-Sect Tournament, a high-grade life-saving elixir, a rare Detox Poison Pill, and a precious Breakthrough Pill." Ji Yuan explained in an orderly fashion.
"Oh..." Bai Xifeng’s fiery enthusiasm visibly faded, her shoulders dropping as she listened to the impressive list. She poked listlessly at her food. "What about the rewards for second and third place?"
