Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 122: Building Escape: Phase One

The darkness before dawn is always filled with panic and unease. The survivors got up early, busying themselves to alleviate the tension before the great battle.

"How is it? Brother Hu, is there any movement over there?" Tang Xiaoquan slowly walked to the window and softly asked Hu Xiaodong, who was in a monitoring state.

Frowning, Hu Xiaodong shook his head, having discovered nothing. During the nearly half-hour of monitoring, he hadn't even glimpsed a bit of the man's silhouette.

Seeing Hu Xiaodong shaking his head in denial, the already tense and uneasy Wang Qiang immediately lost his temper. Ignoring the occasion, he spat and cursed, "NMD, what did I say, that Y is just an unreliable piece of junk! Relying on him, huh! Give it up!"

Ignoring Wang Qiang's grumbling, Tang Xiaoquan continued sorting out the materials and equipment needed for the upcoming operation.

In his view, no matter how much you complain, what has to come will come. So instead of wasting time in futile speculation, it's better to spend it on preparation.

After all, opportunity always favors the prepared, and in the post-apocalyptic world, more preparation means a better chance of survival.

Waiting is grueling, especially at such a juncture concerning future fate; everyone's heart was in their throat.

The proud sun shyly revealed half its head, and streak after streak of golden twilight draped like a gorgeous garment over the sky.

Roughly another half-hour passed, and a "mummy" wrapped in a curtain and with hands tied in plastic bags appeared exaggeratedly before the window.

"Damn," Wang Qiang muttered speechlessly, slapping his forehead, "OH, MY LADY GAGA, this guy is really a weirdo, is he playing cosplay!?"

Tang Xiaoquan felt rather helpless with Wang Qiang's incessant chatter, and to prevent further pollution of the air, he could only kick him and sternly order, "If you have nothing to do, go and get me paper and pen! Quick!"

A bit taken aback, Wang Qiang was obviously confused for a moment, but as he regained his senses, Tang Xiaoquan's head had already turned to the side and began discussing related matters with Hu Xiaodong.

Truly getting the short end of the stick, no matter how thick-skinned Wang Qiang was, he wouldn't bother the instigator at this critical moment.

Frustrated, he had no choice but to comply and handed over the taken paper and pen to his brother.

Taking the paper and pen, Tang Xiaoquan didn't pause and moved his right hand swiftly. Just a moment later, a blackboard plan for confirming the steps of the operation was completed.

In the following time, the two sides communicated back and forth using this most primitive and simple means of communication. Finally, after not less than dozens of rounds, the final plan of action was finalized.

Wiping the sweat off his forehead, it had to be said that the confirmation before the battle was indeed exhausting, but fortunately, everything went fairly smoothly. Now it depends on mutual trust and executing the plan.

Tang Xiaoquan slapped his hand forcefully and solemnly regarded his companions one by one. Today's task would undoubtedly be extremely difficult because the key to success or failure lay in the hands of a man completely unrelated to their side.

Hoping the other party would fulfill their promise, though with little confidence, Tang Xiaoquan stubbornly prayed for the goodness of human nature to prevail.

"Alright, everyone, let's not say more nonsense. Remember this: we are a team! No matter what happens, I want you all to survive for me!" Hu Xiaodong said solemnly, his voice booming.

And with these words, the building escape plan was officially announced to begin!

Everyone took their positions and roles. About 5 minutes later, Wei Yang's clear voice came from outside the room: "Xiao Tang, Brother Hu and they are in position, you can throw the 'Incendiary Bottle' now!"

"OK! Got it!" Responding briefly, Tang Xiaoquan immediately called Ah Cheng to start the fire!

The throwing target was also carefully considered because you not only needed to ensure the man had enough time to start the car safely but also must ensure that zombies wouldn't move towards their building because of the sound disturbance.

After weighing the options, Tang Xiaoquan finally chose an open spot about 20 meters away from the man's parking spot outside the building.

Because that spot was surrounded by cars on all sides, it could block the zombies' view. Additionally, the relatively suitable distance could ensure the accuracy of their bottle-throwing.

As the saying goes, all is ready except for the east wind, which truly described the survivors' situation at this moment.

Tang Xiaoquan believed he had thought of every possible detail encountered, so he had absolute confidence in the plan he had devised!

Thus...

Raising his arm high, his body slightly leaned back, and then with a forward motion, his flailing hand swung out a powerful arc, sending the bottle in his palm flying.

His throw was quite forceful, with such a strong momentum that the airborne "bottle" reached its designated place almost instantly.

"Splash, sizzle!"

The bottle broke! The fire ignited!

And just as this "bottle" started to take effect, another "bottle" came swiftly beside it, sparking flames.

Immediately, continuous wine bottles shattered upon crashing to the ground, with tiny flames rapidly turning the target location into a sea of fire.

As expected, the zombies moved, after dozens of hours of boring waiting, they finally found their "hope"!

Watching the growing crowd of corpses gathering around the sea of fire, Tang Xiaoquan realized the time was ripe.

Without any hesitation, he swiftly waved his arm, intending to remind the man still idly staring by the window that it was time to act.

Due to the sunlight's reflection, Tang Xiaoquan couldn't see the man's movements clearly, but through his disappearing figure, he knew the other party should be making a move.

The first phase can be considered concluded. Overall, it proceeded quite smoothly, as most zombies were drawn to the fire, even if there were some stragglers, they shouldn't affect the man's actions.

Then, as for whether the man could smoothly get in the car? Whether the car could start smoothly?

All of this was beyond Tang Xiaoquan's control; now, all he could do was pray, pray the man wouldn't mess up, pray the car was all right!
