"Hey, kid!"
"You're prettier than a girl!"
"Wanna come play with us?"
One of the men, a giant nearly the size of Lu Dongshan, reached for Su Xuan's shoulder. The others just sneered. The big one was their leader, and he didn't like women. He preferred men, especially those from the East with delicate skin.
Su Xuan didn't even grant the man a glance. He simply lifted his hand and slapped it toward him.
In the next second, something happened that shocked all of them.
The leader, who weighed nearly three hundred pounds, was struck by Su Xuan's palm. He instantly doubled over and flew backward, crashing hard against the iron bars and shaking the entire cage.
BLEGH!
The big man crumpled to the ground, clutching his stomach as he vomited up the spaghetti he'd had for lunch.
"Get him!" the leader roared, lifting his head. "All of you, get him! Teach him a lesson!"
But the others didn't dare move. This guy obviously knows kung fu!
There was a saying that was popular in Europe and America: all Chinese people know kung fu, so you should never provoke them. They had just seen a live demonstration. But their boss had given an order they couldn't disobey, so they reluctantly squared up, putting on a brave face.
However, what happened next made them too afraid to even pretend anymore.
Su Xuan turned to face the cage door and held out his hand. A mass of black energy emanated from his palm, instantly condensing into a black sword.
SWISH!
With a single swing, Su Xuan sliced the door of the iron cage clean off. He didn't step out right away. Instead, he stood there, sword in hand, and leveled his gaze at the other men.
THUD!
The moment they met Su Xuan's icy stare and saw the sword, the men all dropped to their knees in unison. We have to kneel! This handsome Eastern man doesn't just know kung fu; he has some kind of superpower! He can conjure a sword from thin air! He... he must be some kind of superhuman! Just like the ones in Hollywood movies, like Captain Marvel! His abilities are on another level compared to the likes of Spider-Man, Batman, or Captain America!
"Are you really criminals?" Su Xuan asked them.
"No, no!" they shook their heads frantically, blurting out everything. "We were just hired to scare you! To scare you into going back to your country! We haven't done anything bad, really! We're actually good people!"
Su Xuan narrowed his eyes. That was all he needed to hear.
"Richard," he murmured. "I'll be seeing you tonight."
Holding the sword, Su Xuan walked out of the cage and surveyed his surroundings. The place resembled a warehouse. Its walls were thick and difficult to break through, but the roof, made of some kind of composite board, presented an excellent escape route.
WHOOSH!
Su Xuan bent his knees and launched himself into the air, landing lightly on a steel beam supporting the roof. Without pausing, he leaped again, swinging the black sword to cut a hole in the ceiling, and vanished.
The men left in the cage stared, completely dumbfounded. This confirmed it. Su Xuan was a superhuman. An Eastern Superman.
My God! they thought, their hearts pounding with terror. Thank goodness we didn't seriously offend him! Otherwise, we would all be dead! They instinctively began to make the sign of the cross on their chests.
After breaking out, Su Xuan stood on the roof and scanned the area. He dispersed the black sword, leaped down, and cut through a narrow alley, emerging in front of a small supermarket.
Night had fallen completely, and the city lights made the sky glow. But the lights here felt alien, nothing like the warmth of home.
"Oh, what a handsome man!" a blonde girl exclaimed as she walked past him. She had just finished shopping and was carrying a grocery bag.
Su Xuan's good looks weren't feminine, as the thugs had suggested; they were infused with a valiant and domineering aura. It was a combination that Western women found completely irresistible.
"Hello," Su Xuan said, smiling at the blonde girl who had complimented him. "May I borrow your phone for a moment?"
His own phone wasn't on him; before being taken, he had sneakily hidden it under his pillow.
"No problem!" As soon as the blonde girl saw Su Xuan's smile, her eyes sparkled with infatuation. She quickly took out her phone, handed it to him, and said, "Use it for as long as you want. International calls are fine, too."
She was clearly a very down-to-earth person.
Su Xuan took the phone and dialed a number. It wasn't an iPhone but an Android made by a Chinese manufacturer. It wasn't the latest model, either; the screen was covered in scratches, looking like it had seen years of use. The girl was either very frugal or simply not well-off. The phone even lagged a bit as Su Xuan dialed.
"Thank you," he said, handing the phone back to her after the call.
"Are you new here?" the girl asked, making no move to leave. She seemed to enjoy looking at his face.
"Yes," Su Xuan nodded. "Just arrived."
"Do you have a place to stay?" she asked softly. "If not, you can stay at my place. Don't worry, it's very clean, and I'm single."
"That's not necessary, but thank you for your kindness," Su Xuan politely declined.
"Please don't get the wrong idea," the blonde girl explained hastily. "I don't have any other intentions. It's just... when you get some money, could you pay me a little for rent? I've been unemployed for two months, and my finances are really tight."
Oh, so that was it.
Su Xuan glanced at her. "You'll have a job soon," he said. "The person whose number I just dialed will be contacting you shortly. I hope you like the work. Consider it a token of my gratitude."
With that, Su Xuan walked toward the curb in front of the supermarket, as if waiting for someone.
"Have a wonderful day!" the blonde girl called out to his retreating figure. She then walked to a nearby parking spot and got into her Ford. She didn't really think anyone would call her with a job offer. After all, he was new in town and had to borrow her phone just to make a call...
But for some reason, her car wouldn't start. She tried to turn the ignition several times to no avail. Frustrated, she called for roadside assistance.
While she was waiting for help, she witnessed an unbelievable scene.
One after another, black luxury cars—the kind she had only ever seen in movies—began to pull up to the curb, stopping right in front of Su Xuan. An elderly man in a lavish suit stepped out of a car and respectfully approached Su Xuan, offering his hand.
Su Xuan simply gave the man a brief, nonchalant handshake. His demeanor was clearly that of a superior addressing a subordinate.
The girl's jaw dropped.
"Oh!" she breathed. "My God!"
