My unbelievable life with CATS (Con and Thief system)

Chapter 95: Buffet of Reconciliation

The following afternoon, "Klek," Dylan opened his house door, then ushered Ellie, Maya, Lena, Amy, Aaron, Clara, Fiona, and Iris inside, all with sulky faces. The reason for their annoyance was that the mountain lake area where their cabin was located had been temporarily closed off by rangers and the police due to the presence of a sadistic killer on the loose.

"So our vacation only lasted one day," Lena remarked.

"Yeah, we didn't even get to do anything before being forced to come home," Maya added.

"Why did it have to be like this? Everything was fine at first," Ellie said.

"Because there was a wild killer running around with a chainsaw, right?" Amy added.

The four of them glared at Dylan with sharp, cynical looks, intending to imply, "This is all your fault."

"I wanted to ride the boat and walk around the lake shore, hik," Fiona grumbled.

"Yeah, I wanted to too, but we couldn't, hik," Iris added.

"What can we do? We couldn't do anything when we got evacuated like that," Aaron added.

Clara remained silent, but she glanced at Dylan with the same cynical look as the others. After Megan stepped inside with the luggage, Dylan closed his house door.

"My apologies, how about we go to the beach tomorrow?" Dylan asked.

"Huh... but if we go to the beach, will there be a Megalodon there this time? What if one suddenly shows up and swallows a bunch of people?" Lena mocked.

"Oh, come on... I've apologized countless times. Please stop frowning," Dylan said, giving up.

"Okay, but treat us to a nice meal," Ellie replied.

"You hear that? It has to be good, doesn't have to be expensive," Maya replied.

Finally, after searching for a cheap but good restaurant in the city and discussing it with everyone, Dylan took them all out and went downtown. He took them to an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant with an affordable price. When they walked in, a server who was greeting guests immediately showed them to a table large enough to fit everyone.

After sitting down, they started going to the food counters to grab lots of food, then brought it back to the table and began eating together. Naturally, many male guests turned their heads to look at Ellie, Maya, Lena, and Amy, who were still drawing attention even though they were pregnant and a little heavier than before, though they looked fitter than they had previously. Especially since their plates were full of diverse food.

Aaron and Clara were eating with Fiona and Iris seated between them, both watching their two younger twin sisters to make sure they ate a variety of food, not just what they liked. Dylan, seeing that everyone looked happy, felt relieved that at least they weren't sulking anymore because of the failed vacation. While they were eating, suddenly three men wearing suits, who looked like handsome, rich guys with branded clothes and cool watches—though they seemed to be trying too hard—approached their table.

The attention of the three men was focused on Ellie, Maya, Lena, and Amy, who looked pretty, fit, pregnant, but without husbands, making it seem like they were just eating together with their older brother and their younger siblings. A blond-haired man with bright teeth suddenly sat down next to Lena and pushed Dylan's chair aside, making Lena uncomfortable. Two other handsome men immediately took positions next to Amy and Ellie.

"Hello, how's the food? Good? Oh yeah, my name is Victor, what's yours?" Victor, the man sitting next to Lena, asked Lena.

"My name is William, just call me Will," said Will, who sat next to Amy.

"And I'm Caleb. The three of us work at an investment firm across the street," Caleb added.

Lena, Amy, and Ellie stayed silent. They continued to eat casually without paying attention to the three men who introduced themselves. Dylan, seeing this, said nothing, but his eyes were fixed on the three men at his table, as were Maya, Aaron, and Clara, who were also staring at the three men who were incredibly rude and sat down without being invited. The atmosphere became silent; the only sounds were the commotion in the restaurant and the clatter of cutlery against plates.

Feeling ignored, Victor, Will, and Caleb grew slightly irritated. Then Victor took out his smartphone and showed the screen, which displayed an investment program, to Lena with a broad, charming smile.

"Judging by how educated you look, how about you persuade your husband to invest with us?" Victor asked.

"Pfft," Dylan, who was sitting behind Victor, immediately stifled a laugh and covered his mouth to prevent the food in his mouth from spitting out. Of course, seeing Dylan laugh, Ellie, Maya, Lena, Amy, Aaron, and Clara also laughed. Victor's face briefly showed that he felt offended because he was being mocked, but he immediately calmed his expression.

"Alright, it seems you're not interested, but please think about it. Here is my business card. Feel free to call me anytime," Victor said, smiling while handing his card to Lena.

Lena looked at the card, then she glanced to see Will and Caleb also leaving their business cards in front of Ellie and Amy. When Ellie and Amy looked at Lena and smiled, the three of them took the three men's cards and, "rrrip," they immediately tore them up. Then they returned the torn cards to the pockets of the three men while smiling. The three men looked shocked, likely because it was the first time their charm and looks hadn't worked on the women they were targeting.

Their faces turned red and looked embarrassed. Without another word, the three of them immediately stood up and left quickly without looking back. After they were outside, the three men checked their pockets.

"Hey, where's my wallet?" Victor asked, confused, checking his pockets.

"Mine's gone too," added Will, who was also panicking because his wallet was missing.

"Oh no... my wallet's gone too. Did it fall out inside?" added Caleb, turning to look back at the restaurant.

Meanwhile, Dylan casually looked through the contents of the three men's wallets. It turned out there was a photo of a wife and child in Victor's wallet, and Will had a photo of himself embracing a pregnant woman, while Caleb had a photo of his wedding in his wallet.

"Oh wow, wow... they all have families but are still looking for attention outside," Dylan muttered.

"Scumbag men," Ellie replied casually.

"Give the wallets back," Amy replied.

"Okay, but before that, they need to be punished a little," Dylan said in his head.

Dylan took all the cash out of the wallets, then called a server. He gave a tip to the server and asked them to please deliver the three wallets to the three men who had just gone outside and were surely confused out front, because Dylan could see them using his all seeing eye skill.

Of course, the server was delighted and immediately ran out of the restaurant to approach the three men outside. Dylan watched everything from inside. He saw the server hand the three men their wallets and receive thanks from the three men.

After the server returned, the three men opened their wallets, and their faces turned pale because all the money inside was completely gone without a trace. Dylan immediately braced himself, worried that the three men would come back and take their anger out on the server, but it turned out they only argued amongst themselves and seemed too proud to return, then they left.

Seeing this, Dylan just smiled to himself and continued eating. But suddenly, using his skill, he looked back to where the three men had been standing previously, since the three men had already left. It turned out there was the ghost of a war veteran still wearing a military uniform, standing silently by a lamppost as if waiting for something.

His position was exactly near where the three men were discussing and panicking over their lost money.

"Hey KATS, has that war veteran ghost been there the whole time?" Dylan asked in his head.

[That is correct, sir. He has been there the entire time.]

Suddenly the veteran ghost turned around and stared toward Dylan, who was still inside the restaurant.

"Whoa... how can he see me?" Dylan asked.

[It appears he noticed you watching him.]

"Hmm... is that so? Soldiers are formidable, they can sense us looking at them, even though there should be a wall blocking the view," Dylan muttered.

[He has been there since the war. He is tied there, unable to move. He says he is waiting for his wife and child to pick him up.]

"Since the war? Wow... that's a really long time," Dylan replied.

[That's what he said, sir, but he does not want to be disturbed and asks that we just leave him there. But it's different with the ghost in the kitchen. Please look to the right using your all seeing eye skill.]

Dylan turned to the right toward the kitchen using his skill, and Dylan was immediately startled because he saw the sad-looking ghost of a chef inside the kitchen trying to hold cooking tools, like a knife, and with a face that looked like he was trying to cook, intending to help the chef who was currently working.

"Hmm... okay, we'll come back here tomorrow. I don't want to ruin the mood with strange things tonight, especially since everyone's mood has already started to improve since we got back," Dylan replied in his head.

[Understood, sir.]
