Homestead Survival

102: Overlook Overview

<01 September 2024, GRAND MESA OF SUMMER, A+> [Theo and Julia] Theo and Julia had returned to the Overlook and quickly gone to bed. When they woke the next morning, they decided that the first thing they should do was check the maps that Gus had given them.

Theo pulled out the first map that showed a rough approximation of the Overlook.

"Well, it is nice to finally have a map," Julia said, looking at it. "Too bad there is no scale."

"I don't think it is to scale," Theo muttered. And then shook his head. "So the question becomes, what do we do with all this land that we have?"

"Short term or long term?" Julia asked.

"Well, I mean both ideally, but at the moment, short term," Theo said.

"I mean, really..." Julia said thoughtfully. "...not a whole lot. I think we should set up some fields, propagate more of the berry bushes, and try to get our hands on some animals. But other than that, I think that we will have our hands full doing that and getting materials for the house. On top of that, we have to meet with the dwarves, and probably should do some exploring of the other Mesas."

"That is true," Theo said before putting that map to the side. He picked up the one that showed the tunnels next.

"Well, that is not good," Julia said, pointing at the western-most tunnel entrance that was on a lower portion of the way down to the main mesa.

"True, someone could get all the way to us and we would never know," Theo said, then looked around and saw Ordus off in the distance. He waved to Ordus, who began heading towards Theo.

After a few moments, Ordus arrived. "Yes, Theo?"

"Ordus, can you take Kreldar and go check this out?" Theo said, indicating the tunnel entrance. "If we can, I would like to secure that, at least temporarily, so that we don't need to worry about it. If the two of you could figure out a plan to do that and let me know what you need, I would appreciate it."

"Of course," Ordus said and headed off to find Kreldar.

"Now then," Theo said, moving over to where the Chest of Anti-Spoilage sat, he opened it up and pulled out a System Meal. Then dug for a moment and pulled out a meat stick, and a meal of Dwarvish make. "Breakfast, but this is the last of the System meals and the last of the meat sticks. We have a whole lot of the Dwarven stuff."

Julia shrugged and took half the meat stick and the System meal, leaving the other half of the meat stick and the Dwarvish meal for Theo, who dug in happily.

They finished their meal and decided that they would both do their own things. Julia decided to go check and see how all her wards were doing, and to check the ones that had been laid around the Deepwell.

Theo walked down the ramp and loaded his pouch with twenty of the large blocks before heading out to the North-eastern end of the Overlook to start laying out fields.
