Chapter 58: Reaper Returns


Opening Scene – TD Garden, December NightThe moment felt cinematic.

Banners hung heavy from the rafters.

The parquet floor glowed under the lights.

And the crowd?

Buzzing with electric anticipation.

The Celtics were facing the Memphis Grizzlies.

But the real headline wasn't Ja Morant's acrobatics.

It was Kyle Wilson's return from the G-League… and everyone wanted to know:

Was the Reaper for real?

Pregame – Ja Morant's WarningIn the tunnel, Kyle stretched in silence.

Focused. Calm. Dead-eyed.

Then Ja Morant strutted by, bouncing in his warmup.

The Reaper was back.

First Quarter – Kyle UnleashedOn offense, Kyle cut backdoor on a Marcus Smart drive—alley-oop dunk.

Next play, he grabbed a defensive board and pushed the break himself.

He hesitated at the three-point line… then pulled up—splash.

Commentary erupted:

"Wilson is back with a vengeance! That's a confident stroke from the rookie!"

The Grizzlies called timeout.

Ime smiled from the sideline.

"Let the kid breathe now."

Ari in the Box Seats – StrategizingAri sat with a Forge Athletics exec.

"Our numbers doubled the week he went to Maine," the exec said.

"We're ready to launch his signature shoe: 'The GraveStep 1s.'"

Ari nodded.

"Perfect. And make sure the slogan drops after tonight."

"Which is?"

She smiled.

"Back from the dead. Better than ever."

Second Quarter – Ja Strikes BackJa didn't take kindly to being shown up.

He exploded in the second quarter:

Windmill dunk in transition

Step-through layup off glass

Lob to Desmond Bane for a slam

He screamed after each one.

Stared Kyle down.

"You ain't guarding this!"

Kyle stayed cool.

Didn't react.

Didn't chirp.

Halftime – Dead EvenScore: 61–60, Celtics lead.

Kyle:

9 points

5 rebounds

1 assist

1 block

1 steal

0 turnovers

He sat in the locker room, towel around his shoulders.

Ime approached.

"Keep your heart cold, but your game hot. You got 12 more minutes to show the league they were late."

Third Quarter – Reaper ModeKyle locked in.

First play?

He deflected a pass, dove out of bounds, and saved the possession.

Then?

He nailed a catch-and-shoot three off a Tatum pass.

The Garden lit up.

Next sequence:

Ja tried to go behind the back on the break—Kyle picked his pocket.

Two dribbles.

One euro step.

Poster dunk on Jaren Jackson Jr.

Bench erupted.

Crowd chanted:

"REE-PER! REE-PER! REE-PER!"

Fourth Quarter – Final MinutesTwo minutes left.

Score: 110–108, Celtics.

Ime called a play:

"Reaper Iso. Clear the lane."

Tatum raised an eyebrow.

Kyle was shocked.

Ime winked.

"You earned it."

Kyle caught the ball at the top.

Guarded by Ziaire Williams.

He jab-stepped.

Pump-faked.

Drove left.

Spun back.

Fadeaway jumper.

Swish.

Timeout Memphis.

Ja vs. Kyle – Final ShowdownGrizzlies inbounded.

Ball to Ja.

20 seconds left.

Kyle picked him up full court.

Ja drove right—

Hesi—

Spin—

Kyle cut him off.

Ja faked the shot—

Kyle didn't flinch.

Forced into a tough floater—

Miss.

Tatum got the board.

Celtics ran the clock out.

Final Score: 114–108.

Postgame – Ja's RespectIn the tunnel, Ja approached Kyle.

"You showed out."

Kyle shrugged.

"Still learning."

Ja smirked.

"Learn faster. The West don't wait."

Media Frenzy – ESPN Next MorningSkip Bayless:

"Ladies and gentlemen, Kyle Wilson is BACK. And not just back—he's evolving. If Boston lets him grow, he might be the biggest steal of 2020."

Stephen A. Smith:

"That boy different. He got defense, hustle, now he adding offense? Oh my LAWD…"

Ari's Office – Reaper RisingAri sat at her desk as the ad campaign launched.

📺 "The GraveStep 1s – Back from the dead. Better than ever." 📺

Commercial rolled:

Kyle walking through a shadowed gym, highlights flashing on the walls behind him.

His voice echoed:

"You buried me too early. Now I'm coming for the whole league."

Final Scene – Kyle Alone in the GymIt was 2:14 AM.

TD Garden was dark.

Kyle stayed. Shooting.

Shooting.

Shooting.

Then silence.

He looked up at the rafters.
