After taking care of Fourth Treasure, Lin Feng moved on to help Big Treasure use the potty. The moment he picked him up, his expression hardened.

The familiar smell of raw eggs!

Upon closer inspection, he saw that the boy was indeed covered in raw egg and was even holding an egg in his hand.

When the babies woke up to use the potty, they were all baffled.

It wasn't just Second Treasure; all of them were crying, except for Third Treasure. Zhang Yuxi hadn't seen a scene like this in a very, very long time, not since they were about a month old.

He tried again. "Daddy will take you to see where the eggs are."

"But before Daddy tells you, you have to use the potty first," he said. "Otherwise, you might have an accident in your beds."

Noticing the bedroom door was open, Zhao Lizhen peeked her head in. "I heard Second Treasure crying just now. What happened?"

Zhang Yuxi held back a laugh. "Last night, I told them that little birds hatch from eggs. So, they secretly took eggs to bed with them, probably thinking they could hatch chicks. But by midnight, all the eggs had broken except for Third Treasure's. So now, they've woken up to find the eggs gone and are having a meltdown."

Zhao Lizhen instantly understood and slapped her forehead. "Yesterday, while I was on the phone, it suddenly went quiet for a moment. I went to check on them, and they just ran from the dining room straight upstairs. I followed them up and they all seemed fine. Just then, the phone in the living room rang, so I went back down to answer it. That must have been when they snuck into the kitchen and took the eggs."

"How did they even reach them? The kitchen counter is so high," Zhang Yuxi wondered.

"This is a wake-up call. We need to put away all the knives, forks, and other sharp objects in the kitchen, so the children don't get their hands on them and get hurt!"

Just as they were talking, the babies emerged from the bathroom, their faces tear-streaked and their little lips pouting.

Lin Feng led them to the washing machine on the balcony and pulled out their little sheets and clothes.

"The eggs all broke!"

Hearing this, Second Treasure and the others burst into tears again. Even Third Treasure joined in this time.

"SOB, SOB... Our little chicks are gone..."

"They're all broken! My chicks, my little chicks!"

"There are no more chicks!"

Seeing their tears fall like beads from a broken string, the three adults felt their hearts ache. They rushed to embrace them, cooing and comforting them.

Lin Feng soothed them, "Don't cry. Those eggs are the kind that we adults and kids eat. They can't hatch into chicks!"

Zhang Yuxi quickly added, "That's right! No matter how much my babies tried to hatch them, they never would have!"

Fourth Treasure threw himself into Zhao Lizhen's arms. "Grandma, Fourth Treasure wants a chick!"

Even Big Treasure was still sniffling.

Zhao Lizhen looked at Lin Feng. "It's almost the New Year. Where would we get chicks?"

Lin Feng gave Zhao Lizhen a meaningful look, implying that he could get the chicks, but it was up to her.

Zhao Lizhen doted on her grandchildren; they were the apples of her eye. "You figure it out. If you can really hatch chicks... I'll raise them when the time comes."

Lin Feng turned back to the babies. "Alright, no more crying. Daddy will go buy you eggs that can hatch into chicks!"

The babies' faces instantly lit up with smiles, their moods changing in a flash.

"But," Lin Feng continued, "hatching chicks takes time. It's not like we buy them today and they hatch tomorrow. It requires a lot of patience. If any of you get impatient, then Daddy won't buy them. You need to think it over."

Hatching chicks takes about twenty days, which is not a short period.

The babies agreed without a second thought.

After getting the children cleaned up and dressed, Lin Feng had Zhao Lizhen take them downstairs. He then went online to buy fertilized, hatchable eggs.

When he got to buying an incubator, he hesitated. I should make one myself. He remembered seeing videos of people making homemade incubators. There were many different designs, but the principle was always the same. It would be more interesting to build one myself. That way, the babies can experience the joy of making something by hand.

He ended up ordering thirty fertilized eggs online—a mix of chicken, duck, and quail eggs. Even if twenty-something failed, a few would surely survive. Lin Feng found a seller in the same city who promised to deliver them that afternoon.

Next, Lin Feng looked up tutorials on how to build an incubator. He came across an interesting video about hatching chicks in a rice cooker, which just required a temperature controller. I'll go buy one after breakfast.

Zhang Yuxi came upstairs to get him. "Honey, are you done?"

Lin Feng put his phone away. "All done. I'm planning to hatch the chicks together with the babies." That would make it more meaningful for them.

After breakfast, Lin Feng asked Zhao Lizhen, "Mom, do we have an old rice cooker we don't use anymore?"

Zhao Lizhen thought for a moment. "I think so. What do you need it for?"

"To hatch chicks."

Zhao Lizhen was speechless.
