Supreme Artefact.
It was just a random name, but it represented everyone's fate too. An Artefact that could reveal a student's true identity.
That's why the name.
But the cost of using it was too high. Everyone understood that including Derrick. If he lost this trial now, he would be spending his next few years trying to pay his debt.
Similarly, if he won, the fate of paying debt would fall upon Johnny. It was a risk many would think thrice before taking it, but Derrick did it anyways.
From his smile, anyone could guess that he had played with Johnny.
"Y-You! What did you do?" Johnny's voice trembled, as he pointed his fingers at Derrick.
"Stop talking to me, you traitor," Derrick scoffed before turning towards Instructor Han. "I will proceed with that."
"If that is your wish." Instructor Han nodded, taking out a three layered metal piece. Hole in centre, the black metal box seemed hollow.
Derrick pushed his Identity Stone in the hole, still smiling at Johnny who already seemed like he had lost his soul.
The stone disappeared inside, as everyone waited, wondering about the results. Some even began sweating who had placed a lot of merit points in excitement and haste. Now they regretted it.
In just two seconds, the stone jumped out of the metal box as six green lights illuminates the dark insides. Along with those lights, Johnny's face paled as he fell on his butt.
"Trial is oger. Derrick is not a demon, so Johnny will spend next four years paying the debt. If he can't in this time frame, it'll be extended," Instructor Han declared. "Take this as an example and learn from it."
With that, he walked off, leaving a dispirited audience behind. Of course, there was one girl who grinned from ear to ear, as she had just won a lottery.
Meanwhile, Derrick went closed to Johnny and said, "You know, I told the same thing to my other friends too, but only you betrayed me. Friends of a few days were more loyal than you."
He spat on him and said, his voice full of mocking, "I trusted you the most, yet you gave me this betrayal. Now, rot in hell, bastard. Not even you father can pay off this debt."
However, by then Johnny wasn't even listening. He just sat there with a horrified look on his face. A single mistake. That was all it took to ruin his life.
Looking at him, Aegon thought, 'Thats really life, isn't it? One tiny mistake can bring end to everything.'
He couldn't help but look back to the recent events. Like the situation with Cali and Luna. It happened because of a small mistake in Cali's side, but even Luna was mildy part of it.
If only had they communicated instead of running so much in their head, everything would have resolved sooner.
'Or should I say choices. They make up our life.'
Fate and luck existed in this world, Aegon was sure of that. But he also knew that many things in one's life were because of the choices they made throughout their lives.
A single one of those choices could lead to destruction of everything you hold dear with no coming back.
Johnny chose to betray his best friend, who laid a perfect trap to check his friend's loyalty. He made a choice, and now would suffer cause of it's consequences.
Accumulation of Choices. That's what a life was basically.
'I also need to make choices which I won't regret. Fortunately, my streak has been good till now.'
There weren't any choices he regretted, but deeply thinking about certainly made him change a few. Something, he was already thinking about for a while.
He turned towards Rosa while everyone left the plaza. They were already tired and now the loss of merit hit harder. Beside, so many people ended up in same fate, so they were already used to it.
There was a reason why a lot of students didn't get past First Years. They did such dumb mistakes, thinking it was nothing much.
Naivety.
"Give me my share?" Aegon demanded, as he streched his hand.
"Hmm? I like this type of relationship too," Rosa smiled and slid over a card to him. "It contains your share and a little extra pocket money from me."
Aegon rolled his eyes at her and said, "About that, I wanted to talk a little. Can you do this courting a year later or something?"
It was more of a suggestion because if she really persisted after this, he would cut all ties with her. No amount of courting would work then. For now, he was being nice because she was genuine about everything.
"What do you mean?" Rosa tilted her side cutely and said. "What to focus on improving first?"
"Yup. There's just too many things to do, so I don't think I can give time for this. And I certainly don't want to waste your efforts, so what I'm suggesting is Waiting a year." Aegon suggested.
Without even taking a second to think, Rosa smiled and said, "Easy thing to do, Future Hubby. it's not like you're asking me to drop it completely, which means a lot to me. Thanks for giving me this opportunity."
"You're surprisingly easy to convince," Aegon said, a little surprised.
"The other one is a little dumb, but she did study a lot." Rosa answered. "Relationships can only continue if the partners respect each other's wishes. I want to show you that our relationship can work, because I do respect your choices."
'This girl...' Aegon was momentarily stumpped for words.
"So, do I get some good points for this?" Rosa once again smiled and asked, leaning towards him.
"A little bit."
Rosa pouted at his answer, as she said, "You're dishonest. Anyways, we will still be friends, right? I also want to improve a lot in this year, so I'll need some good motivation."
"And I'm that good motivation?" Aegon asked, amused.
"Of course. Seeing you will remind me that I'll need to fight a lot of bitches to protect you from their seduction." Rosa growled. "I will never not anyone snatch you away from me once you become my hubby."
"Stop cooking future scenarios and focus on present."
