The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World

Chapter 103: Advanced Carpentry and Advanced Tailoring!

Sadly, for today, there were no interesting skills in the selection. Two of them were for mages (both of which, admittedly, had cool-sounding names), two were basic skills he didn't really care for, and another one was beyond his level.

In the end, he just bought another one of the things he had been meaning to buy.

After a ding in his mind, he heard exclamations from the other side of the door.

"Huh?"

"What is this??"

It was the goblins, and he knew that a system panel appeared in front of them. Finn stretched his arms to shoo the lethargy away, dragging his feet to head out.

He opened the door to see the two goblins gaping in front of them, trying to touch the floating screen. "Did you see it?"

"What is this, Boss?" Ranran asked, looking quite confused. Tumble nodded.

"Yes, boss! What is it, what is it?"

Finn smiled. "It's a system interface," he said. For a moment, the two goblins were just confused, until Ranran flinched at a memory.

"Oh! I remember," Ranran said, a little voice higher-pitched in excitement. "I think that humans had screens like this before."

"Oh, yes, the status gems!"

Low-class status gems could be seen by others, which was probably what the goblins were talking about.

"But these aren't stats," Ranran said, forehead creasing. Goblins didn't have eyebrows, so their brow bridges just drew together when they furrowed. "And we don't have status gems."

Even after a while, they still seemed confused.

Finn curiously walked over and looked at their screen, which just said 'Congratulations! You have received Advanced Carpentry (for Tumble) and Advanced Tailoring (for Ranran)'. This should've been clear enough, though.

Then he realized.

They couldn't read?

He looked at Pang, who was lounging at his favorite corner of the sofa. He poked on his flabby back. "What the heck, can't the system adjust according to the reader?"

"They'll still receive the inheritances la," the Panda said, not even moving in place. "Even if they can't read, they will know how to do things by instinct."

Finn sighed, giving up, before kneeling down next to the confused goblins.

He then read it for them, and their eyes widened, understanding but also disbelieving.

"But this…"

"You can now make things that expert carpenters and expert tailors can do; you should be able to tap into the skill sets associated with them."

"...how tho?"

"Just call it a staff member perk."

They stared at him, taking a while to absorb his words. When they did, their eyes glistened.

"But boss…" They looked at him as if he were the savior. Finn inexplicably felt guilty and immediately downplayed things.

"Well, it's for the system, and it did it for itself, don't think too deeply. It's a gift to talented staff members," he said. "The system simply wanted to maximize it."

The goblins sniffled, still about to cry. "But still…we haven't been taught these things before."

"Well, make sure to use them then."

"Yes, boss!"

"Gentle reminder that you can only use it while in the inn and while you're a staff member."

"Yes, yes, Boss! Thank you!" they told him, in sync. They then looked at the walls and the ceilings and bowed as well. "Thank you, Master Inn!"

Finn laughed. Well, that was one way to show gratitude.

That day, they decided to explore their skills. Finn would continue to experiment on the food, while the two explored their new skill sets, and Pang...explored new sleeping positions.

For Tumble, the skill sets included [Fast Cutting], [Superior Focus], [Wood Material Mastery], [Precision Joinery], [Fortified Framework], [Blueprint Insight], and so on.

For Ranran, there were skills like [Fine Stitching], [Cloth Materials Mastery], [Tanning Mastery], [Advanced Pattern Weaving], and so on.

He could hear the hammer, chisels, saws, and so on (the Utility Room had a tool set), and he knew proper new beds would be built. The outdoor furniture would also be improved.

Ranran was assigned to tanning duty, so there should be more leather items soon.

As for Finn, he sold his food again for the next few days, receiving tens of gold in the process. If he managed to find another recipe, then this daily selling thing could gain even more.

For now, he used all of that to buy new gardens. He was limited to D-Class food and, although he still had a lot to learn about ingredients here, he was fairly confident he'd be able to make more recipes.

Hence, his focus was on the long run. If he wanted to upgrade his cooking and its effects, he needed to gather good ingredients.

"Well, this should do for now," he said. He still had to slowly save up for that sword, after all. The only reason he wasn't rushing was that the halberd was fine for now, and a Class C and above equipment wouldn't be maximized in his hands anyway.

And with many outdoor furniture pieces completed, he was also working on the inn's landscaping~

"You're doing everything except training." He was having fun and was lackadaisical, but every so often, he'd worry about the innkeeper being eaten by a random monster due to one moment of carelessness or weakness.

"HEY. I need to invest in the inn, no? I'm an innkeeper? What kind of spirit are you?"

"..."

"Besides, we don't want to sell the cores. We're collecting them for ourselves! So is it too bad? I can make so much money selling the excess meat I didn't know what to do with in the first place!"

"Psh, that's true…"

Finn smirked and kneaded the panda's fluffy head. "So just trust me, Pang, we're going to make this inn super great—maybe even the best you've seen!"
