Chapter 61: kidnapped girls

The kidnapped girls

61

The sound of water catching made Lucia open her eyes slowly, after that, the cold ravaged her body, her clothes were torn allowing the cold to penetrate directly into her skin.

She looked at her surroundings trying to figure out where she was, she had been kidnapped and didn't know where she was, the ceiling above her head was dark concrete, sticky mold gave off an unpleasant smell.

Lucia tried to move but her body ached unable to act normally, a ring had been placed on her wrist that was connected to a chain that extended to the wall.

The metal on her wrist vibrated slowly as if it were alive, someone moaned in the darkness, Lúcia turned her face in fright, she saw silhouettes in the darkness, other people were there.

When her eyes got used to the little light in the place, she could finally see 13 girls trapped with her, previously she was in a cramped and isolated place, for some reason she had now been moved to a different place.

Some of the girls were motionless, it was not known if they were dead or alive, others were huddled against the walls, trembling, perhaps from fear or perhaps from the cold, no one spoke, there were only occasional sobs.

One of the girls had lifeless, sunken eyes, her lips were cracked and completely dehydrated, her hair was dirty and disheveled, seeing such a figure, Lucia tried to speak, but the girl just shook her head.

Lucia understood, she couldn't make a noise, fear took over her as if it were waves clouding her heart, she remembered the moment she was kidnapped, the bald man who held her behind the police car.

To get her out of her thoughts, the metal door creaked before opening, the girls in the room trembled in fear, two men wearing masks entered.

The footsteps echoed in the darkness, firm steps, one of them used a kind of electric weapon.

"Girls in the group stand up now" the man yelled in a hoarse voice scaring the girls to the core.

Amidst the crackling of lightning from the man's gun, 4 girls stood up in fright, one of them started crying.

"Come on, you pieces of meat" the man got irritated by the girl's crying

One after another they were removed from the chains before being led away by the men as they cried in fear for their your destinations , the others cowered, fearing they would be next.

The iron door closed with a metallic thud, however, darkening the room.

Lucia focused her ears when a sound passed through the closed door, cries and curses mixed with screams of pleasure from the men, the girls beside her began to cry and tremble in fear.

Lucia fought with herself trying to control her breathing and the horror that was growing inside her, after several minutes, the sound disappeared amid distant footsteps, now only silence reigned.

It was then that the voice of one of the girls broke the silence.

"You better not try to rip off the bracelet, if you do you will suffer a lot" Lucia turned to the girl who said that.

She looked to be in her 20s, her skin was pale as if she was dead, her hair was tied up in a completely dirty hair tie.

"What's happening? Where are we? Why are we being held captive?" Lucia asked a series of questions.

"How are we supposed to know? If you're asking us, who are we supposed to ask?" Another girl spoke, keeping her voice low.

"You see these bracelets, they prevent us from using our awakened abilities," a third said.

"It's not like our awakened abilities can do anything either, as far as I know no one here has a level this high, a stellar level," the girl who seemed to be dead said depressedly.

Lucia glanced at her own wrist, the bracelet vibrating somehow, the others were right, even if she could use her awakened abilities it wouldn't help in an escape.

However, if she could actually use it, she could help heal some of the girls who were injured in some way, she was a nurse and her skills allowed her to heal.

"They know, that we are low-level awakened" the first girl spoke again.

"It seems they are targeting us on purpose, we must be easy prey in their eyes and based on our history , I doubt anyone knows we are here" the silence returned broken by small sighs.

A girl who appeared to be younger than everyone present spoke.

"It doesn't seem like a good idea to run away from here if that's what you're thinking. I tried to run away 5 days ago but it didn't go well." The girl kept her knees hugged in the middle of the dirty floor, her voice trembling.

"That day I had already memorized the shift change, so I tried, I ran to death as if my life depended on it, but there were motion sensors there, when I got close, the bracelet caught fire"

The girl showed the burn that was on her arm, she paused for a moment so that the others could digest what she was saying and clearly see the burn wound.

"I fell, something hit me from behind and I lost consciousness and when I woke up, I was back in this damn room"

Lucia swallowed hard, wondering what had happened.

"How often do they come, what is their shift?" Lucia asked a question something that was going through her mind.

"Two, sometimes two," the short-haired girl replied.

"They take some of us and bring them back, sometimes no return" the air became dark amidst these words, none of them spoke understanding the meaning of such words.

Lucia looked around seeing different faces but something between them was the same, they all carried an emptiness that shone through their eyes, it was as if their souls were broken at some point.

Their eyes revealed no hope that they would be saved, perhaps there was no one who would come to their rescue, such an atmosphere began to corrode the hope that Lucia held in her heart.

"I'm so jealous, you're young and there's still hope in your eyes. I wonder how long that light will stay lit in your eyes," one of the girls said, laughing ironically.

Lucia just glanced at the girl who was speaking.

There was no way to tell time in the darkness, night and day, only darkness took over the place, Lucia began to count the drops of water that dripped every few seconds to maintain her sanity.

The sound of the drops was almost hypnotic, the mind being lucid, ping , ping , ping , until the sounds of chains being dragged were heard and then the door was opened with a creak, scaring the girls inside.

The girls cringed with the youngest praying that she wouldn't be the next to be taken, the shaking seemed to be contagious because everyone including Lucia was shaking.

The light that came through the open door hurt the eyes of the girls who were already accustomed to the darkness of the damp room , the men returned, and with them one of the four girls who had been taken earlier returned.

Lucia held her breath when she saw the girl being dragged away like a worthless piece of trash, it seemed like the girl was nothing more than an animal instead of a human being.

The girl's body was deathly pale, her eyes empty like a dead fish, her skin was stained with a purple hue and countless bruises, one of the guards threw her to the ground as if he was throwing a piece of trash.

"You girls, we'll see you tomorrow, I hope you'll be a little obedient when it's your turn," the guard said smiling as he licked his plump lips.

The door closed amid grotesque laughter from the guards.

The short-haired girl crawled over to her friend's motionless body, felt her body, and felt for a pulse.

"She's still alive," she murmured, sighing in relief.

Three hours passed, with great effort the girl regained consciousness, she cried and vomited a few times before she stopped sobbing and moaning every second.

"What happened, where did they take you?" Lucia asked cautiously.

When the girl remembered what had happened to her, tears flowed again and she hugged her stomach.

"They ripped it from me," she said sobbing as tears ran down her face as she hugged her friend.

Lúcia looked at the girl hugged by her friend, fearing for her fate.

"If you are taken by them, you will not return the same, they sell our organs and if you are attractive enough, they will sell you to a brothel and if you are lucky, you will be thrown at an auction" The youngest spoke shrinking into the darkness.

Lúcia was a nurse and issues such as organ trafficking were topics covered in her field of work, she knew that awakened people tend to be healthier compared to normal people.

When she heard about it she didn't think much about it, she regretted that it happened somewhere in the world, but that was all it was, now she was at risk of being the next victim.

The thought of having her organs removed or being auctioned off like a mere object made her tremble with fear.
