Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 86: Approaching the Tree

As the group slowly advanced through the thick jungle many obstacles had to be overcome. From swampy ground that forced them to scramble over tree roots lest they be sucked into the murky depths. To impassable vegetation that required either a lengthy detour for some liberal deforestation to take place.

This was on top of the regular ambushes and sporadic battles that took place as they continued onwards towards the centre. Whilst the canopy was thick and high they knew that they were getting closer to their goal.

But the locals that called this domain were no longer the only inhabitants. Other beasts that had braved the perilous journey through the central valley were now all converging. And as they in turn got closer to the central tree the amount of soace available to them also decreased. This naturally resulted in the invaders occasionally encountering each other.

It was when Violet and co first encounterd a line beast that they realised that the tenuous peace that all beast shared at the lip of the vast canyon, and during the first couple of domains was no longer to be respected.

For instead of simply ignoring the much larger group the lone spider beast instead recklessly charged towards them with a hint of madness in its numerous eyes.

Violet was quite surprised by this fact yet did not fail to react in time. A shield of void appeared in its path which the beast slammed straight into, it was sent sprawling to the ground as its body proceeded to carry on as its legs were halted by the shield.

With the creature now collapsed to the ground it took but a moment for Luna to dash forward and pierce the face of the beast with her ice encrusted spear. This did fail to slay the beast and it responded by whipping 2 of its legs straight at her.

Diving back a moment too late, one leg was narrowly ducked under as it raced towards her head, the second however, managed to catch her in the shoulder. It tore through the tattered leather armour and pierced right through. A scream ripped out of her at that and sent her staggering backwards as the leg was withdrawn.

Seeing Luna be impaled, Violet lost her cool and took a step forward. She reappeared right above the giant spider and proceeded to tear into it with her void infused claws. The heavily wounded spider tried to retaliate with quick jabs and bites, yet it was unable to pierce Violet's scales, despite its frantic efforts.

Yet Violet knew no mercy for a foe that dared to injure her companion. Her vicious assult was watched by the various beasts that had followed the dragon. And they all knew in that moments, that they should never harm the two legged one. For if they did, they could face such a retaliation.

Violet's assult was brutal quick and decisive. She tore through the legs of the beast with a vicious glee, ichor was splattered around as the dragon devistated the spider. Until at last the beast collapsed to the ground with the last of its life gone.

A silence permeated the area as the surrounding beasts looked over at the scene of deviation that was left of the singular arachnid. Blue ichor was splattered around, landing on the trees floor and dragon, it acted as a a contrasting tint to the violet of her scales.

Silence overtook the group for a prolonged moment before a growl was loosed by the alpha wolf and the remaining beasts became suddenly quite attentive of the surroundings as Violet made her way over towards Luna.

The girl was crouched on the ground with a grimace on her pretty face, the still tattered leathers of her armour was now stained red with the blood leaking out of her shoulder.

"Are you alright?" Violet asked, her voice tinged with worry as she looked at her companion with a still subdued anger at the detestable spider that dared to harm her.

Seeing the worry and care that Violet showed towards her Luna couldn't help but smile despite the pain she felt. "I'm fine Violet, don't you worry about me, this won't be keeping me down for long."

She wasn't even lying, her passive healing skill had only grown stronger and stronger this past day as it was now effecting a considerably larger group of entities. Instead of only Luna and Violet, so whilst the wound would have been able to disable a normal person for a while it would only put Luna out of action for less than an hour.

"I will always worry about you though. Nothing you say will ever change that, and… I don't like to watch you get hurt." Her agitation had been relieved somewhat with Luna's response, and a hint of vulnerability leaked into her voice as she spoke the last sentence.

Luna just smiled at that and leant in to give the silly dragon a one armed hug. "And I care for you too. Butt come on we have a small army of beasts to lead and cannt be seen as weak now can we?" She tried to add some humor to her voice but it was still tinged with a touch of pain.

Violet snorted at that but still agreed. She pulled back from the embrace and glanced around at her party of beasts, all of whom were studiously not looking in their direction. With a chuckle she fully separated from Luna and gained their attention with a quick pulse of mental awareness.

Once all eyes were on her she began to move forwards once more.

The journey was mostly calm, only a couple of small skirmishes broke out but they were easily handled by the group. Before long the jungle canopy became sparse, and shortly after the tree line broke.

Before them lay a expansive plain of grass and bare soil, and standing proud a singular massive tree stood. It towered over all other vegetation in the area, a true behemoth of vitality in this bezar environment. Its trunk was over 30 meters wide and it stood well over 200 meters in height.

And on its branches hundreds of glittering fruits caught the evening light, looking like dappled sunlight caught in the reflection on a lake.

They had finally arrived at the center of the elemental valleys. And at their destination at long last.
