Lord of Cosmos

Chapter 59: Reflection

"Don't be afraid," Noor said. "I'll be back, I promise. I'll be careful."

Jane let him go, then adjusted her position, raising her head slightly above the desk, and watched as Noor crept closer to the door.

Noor, in turn, hid behind the decorative trees in pots on either side of the entrance. He moved closer to it, checking every moment to make sure it hadn't noticed him, then quickly moved to the next tree.

He continued this way until he reached the door. He found the spider standing motionless, but he understood what was happening. It was scanning the area with the eye above its head to make sure no one was there. That was why it often stopped moving in each road—to scan the area thoroughly and ensure it was clear of enemies.

Noor turned to go back, looking behind him frequently to make sure it hadn't seen him yet. Tense and not looking where he was going, he collided with one of the artificial trees. It fell, making a loud crash in the building's entrance.

His heart leaped with the fall, and he froze in place, his feet refusing to move. He looked at Jane, whose eyes had widened and her lower jaw had dropped as she pointed toward the door. He forced his feet to move and ran without looking back, leaping behind the desk and trying to control his breathing so the spider wouldn't sense him.

Suddenly, the robot's attention turned toward the building's entrance. It bent its body until the entrance was at its eye level and began to inspect the area.

Noor and Jane held their breath, praying from the bottom of their hearts that this thing would not see them.

The spider's eye stared at the pot containing the tree, which was rocking back and forth as a result of its fall. Suddenly, its eye glowed with a blue light and detached from its position, entering the building.

The eye was connected to the spider's body by a tube containing many wires. It approached the tree and examined it carefully from all directions.

Noor took a deep breath and raised his head slightly, stealing a glance. He saw the eye hovering in the air. He almost gasped, but he covered his mouth with his hand and ducked down again.

He gave Jane a look that clearly meant, "We're in deep trouble." Jane understood his look and whispered in a trembling tone, "What are we going to do now?"

"We... have to escape now! As soon as it turns its eye to our location, it will definitely see us."

"How are we going to escape?"

Noor was silent for a moment, pushing his mind to think of a solution. He whispered, "Is your power back?"

"Yes, it's back, but only for five seconds. We won't be able to escape or hide."

He was silent for a moment, analyzing the situation well. An idea flashed in his mind, but it was extremely dangerous. There was no other solution in a situation like this.

He whispered to Jane and quickly explained the plan. Her facial features tightened as she whispered back, "Are you crazy? We'll definitely be killed."

"Don't be afraid, the eye is here," Noor replied, seemingly in a hurry. "As soon as we pass it, it won't be able to see us. We'll pass by it unnoticed and escape far away. Five seconds is enough to get out of here. And let's pray it doesn't sense us. Now, get ready. There's no time to argue."

Jane nodded. Noor created a piece of wood and threw it toward the exit door. The eye turned after it to investigate the source of the sound. Noor signaled for Jane to move.

They quietly made their way beside it and ducked under the tube that held the eye and extended into the building. They reached the door, and the eye was now in front of it, looking outside and examining the source of the sound.

After it was certain there was nothing there, it turned again and went back inside the building. Jane stopped time. She ran, and Noor followed. They rushed outside until they were directly under the spider's body.

They quickly passed under it, but then time resumed. The sight of this giant metallic body sent shivers down their spines. Noor quickly pulled her, and they passed between its eight legs. Then they turned left, where they had been heading from the beginning.

They were now out of the robotic spider's line of sight, but they heard the metallic screech of the spider's feet, followed by the sound of breaking glass.

They looked behind them, and their skin crawled as they saw the spider's body turning toward them. They knew now that it had sensed them.

The spider's body was now behind them. It produced two plasma cannons from its back and began to fire small, glowing spherical shots at them. The first shot passed by them. Noor shouted loudly to Jane, "If these things touch us, we'll be vaporized! We need to split up, so try to avoid them as much as possible!"

Jane nodded and veered to the left, while Noor veered to the right.

The spider continued to run after them quickly, stepping on cars and crushing them, firing plasma shots that hit the ground or one of the parked cars, causing them to vanish from existence.

Noor looked behind him, saw the direction of the shot, and veered off the road, avoiding it. Jane was imitating him.

"Can you use your power?" he shouted.

"No, not yet!" she said loudly, panting as she dodged the shots that passed by her. "Try to think of something!"

Noor felt that they would be eliminated if he didn't act now. He thought of using his power, which had not been of any use to him so far since he had left the tower.

He closed his eyes and created two copies of light. One shot to the right side and the other to the left, while he created a barrier of solid steel and hid behind it.

He then raised his body and aimed his weapon at the spider's eye, trying to hit it while the spider was busy attacking the two copies.

Noor fired at its constantly moving eye, trying to hit it. He managed to hit it with a few shots, but he saw that it was immune to bullets.

"Damn it, these old weapons won't do anything to a monster like this," he thought. "What happened to the weapons from my time?"

The spider managed to eliminate the copy on the right and turned to destroy the other copy.

Noor was shocked when he saw it fire a white laser beam from its eye that erased everything it touched.

The other copy disappeared, and a large part of the building behind it was destroyed. Noor felt worried by this and looked behind him. He found that Jane had moved a sufficient distance away but had stopped to check on his condition.

The spider aimed the beam at the iron barrier standing in the middle of the road. Noor jumped to the right quickly as the wall behind him vanished from the effect of the beam. An idea came to his mind, but it was dangerous. He created a medium-sized shield that was like a mirror.

"I hope this beam has reflective properties, like what happened when I faced 'Li Kang' in the final stage of the Death Race," he said to himself.

Noor knew that what he was doing could kill him. This robot's beam was much stronger than 'Li Kang's' beam, but he had no other choice.

The beam shot from the spider's eye, cutting its way toward Noor, who raised his shield to block the beam and reflect it back at the spider. But he realized too late that the beam had no reflective properties. The shield vaporized in his hand. He threw what was left of it and jumped to the left, knowing that he had almost been killed now because of his recklessness.
