Run Away If You Can

chapter 20

The extreme alphas who still retained some awareness turned to look at Nathaniel and me with curious eyes. Others, heedless, howled as they pounded away. In short, it was a complete madhouse.Pleading here to have my car’s damage covered would be like begging to be humiliated.“No, I’m busy….”“Prosecutor Chrissy Jin.”His calm voice made me flinch. He showed no trace of intoxication now. In a deliberately gentle tone, he said,“Please come this way.”He clearly took pleasure in my discomfort. Like many alphas, he must have a horrible temperament. No—he was worse than most.My moment of hesitation was brief. I lifted my chin and met his gaze.“All right.”Once I made up my mind, I moved quickly. I strode toward him. My nose had gone numb—the only thing I caught now were faint echoes of those pheromones. If ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) I could ignore the cacophony of fucking and visual violence, I could endure this. After all, this isn’t really my reality.Don’t hear. Don’t see. Don’t speak.I repeated the mantra as I came to stand before Nathaniel Miller. Even from a few paces away, his presence felt suffocating. I raised my chin higher.“I’m sorry to interrupt your evening, Mr. Miller. I came to discuss the accident claim….”“…Accident?”He repeated the word in a slow, lazy drawl. I couldn’t help frowning. He doesn’t even remember, does he?Just as regret washed over me again, Nathaniel murmured, “Ah….” He turned and poured wine into two empty glasses on the table. He returned to the couch and offered me one. I took it reluctantly. Nathaniel lifted the remaining glass to his lips and said,“You mean that. And?”He pointed casually at the spot beside him on the couch. The situation was absurd: everyone around us was engaged in orgiastic chaos, yet here we were, sitting calmly to talk. When an omega’s hand clamped onto my leg, I jumped and slid over to leave some space. Clearing my throat, I forced myself to speak.“I need to compensate you, but my insurance limit….”At that moment, a particularly loud squeal cut across the hall.“Urrrgh, hahh, uhnng….”Ignore it. I pressed on with a serious face.“….is insufficient, so I’m trying to secure a loan….”“Uhnng… huff, huff.”“…to cover it….”“Hahhah, hahh aahh, hiiik!”“….““Uhn, ahhh, hiyyaang….”I fell silent. Nathaniel stared at me without a word. The cacophony of fucking raged everywhere, yet we sat in eerie calm. What on earth was happening? My head throbbed. I rubbed my frowning temples.“This isn’t working. I’ll come back another time. You didn’t pick up my calls—should I leave a message with someone outside?”“Whatever you prefer.”He answered simply, then raised his glass as if to toast. I couldn’t just set mine down, so I mirrored his gesture and drank. I wanted to leave, so I emptied it in one go. As I rose with my empty glass, Nathaniel watched me silently.“Well, then….”…Huh?Suddenly the room spun. Dizziness hit without warning and I gripped the couch backrest. Nathaniel calmly sipped his wine. Strange—one glass shouldn’t do this.I clenched the backrest, struggling to keep my legs beneath me. Nathaniel watched me with hooded eyes and slowly raised his glass again.“…Did you put something in my drink?”My tongue felt stiff and slow. Nathaniel, halfway through his glass, set it down and smiled slackly. Fear flitted through my foggy mind. Now I understood why everyone here had lost their senses—wine alone couldn’t have this effect. It had to be something else in the wine.…Drugs?Spiking wine is a classic. You get fast results. I’d heard rumors that extreme alphas laced their drinks with stimulants or ecstasy. Dismissed them as urban legend—until now.Usually, using expensive cocaine like that would bankrupt you. But to them, knocking back coke like water couldn’t ruin anything.“…Ah!”My legs buckled and I collapsed—yet I felt no pain. The floor rushed up to meet me, and I simply blinked. I realized too late that Nathaniel had pulled me down. I lay face-first on the couch cushion, then weakly lifted my head to see him watching from his seat. His voice, ice-cold, asked,“Should I go in from above, or from below?”The words registered but made no sense. His voice floated by in my haze. With a soft exhale—was it a sigh or a curse?—he rose and grabbed my jaw, tilting my head back until my mouth fell open. His thick fingers plunged inside, probing roughly. Saliva dripped down my cheek, and panic clawed at my chest, but he paid no heed—pressing deeper until his fingers brushed the back of my throat. He clicked his tongue.“It’s too tight for the top.”He muttered and withdrew his hand. Air flooded back in, burning as it filled my lungs.“Guh… huff, huff.”I coughed and retched, choking on my own saliva. Nathaniel left me kneeling, gasping on the couch.“Hah, hah.”As my breathing steadied, he yanked my head back again. My mouth opened of its own accord. Through my blur, I saw his face and then his lips pressed against mine.Without hesitation, his tongue drove into my mouth, ravaging it. Helpless, I let him take what he wanted. After he finally drew back, rough, ragged breaths shook my body.
