This time, Lindong did not immediately refute.
Having her inner thoughts revealed, she reflexively sneaked a glance at Ethan.
She suddenly had an illusion.
Behemoth seemed to be a mirror. Of course, she could continue to be stubborn, sarcasm and rebuttal were her strengths, but this mirror reflected her soul.
When the events of the Empire's capital settled, she could retire in glory.
After resolving old grievances, there was nothing left in the Empire worth her attachment.
As long as Ethan was willing, she was happy to find a place where no one knew them and settle down for a stable life.
Yet...
Everything was peaceful, and prosperity was on the rise.
The people of the Empire chanted Old Sen's name, and friends from the distant Western Continent sent them calls for help.
Ethan was truly busy, even the Old Gods seemed to be waiting to meet him.
Lindong couldn't be sure if this was fate's arrangement.
However, she was someone content and skilled at motivating herself — as long as they got through this period, once the tasks at hand were dealt with, they could elope.
This time's timeline involved the Academy and the magical network.
Rebuilding the magic web, breaking the long-standing constraints of the Elemental Shapers, leaving future exploration and research to the Great Mage and Elemental Shapers, then Ethan could finally retire in peace and enjoy a life meant for retirement.
But new troubles emerged.
The primary concern was Sincaro and the ancestors closely related to Him.
"Miss Lindong Witch, you must have realized, right? The work in this world is never-ending, continuing will only entangle you deeper, this kind of life never ends."
"Then what about the Day of Ruin?"
Lindong asked.
This was probably the last crisis hovering over everyone and also the reason she convinced herself to get more deeply involved in this life.
Even if she and Ethan found a place where no one knew them, when the Day of Ruin arrived, the resurrected Old Gods would shatter their lives.
However, Behemoth had a smile on his face, one that seemed to hold a hint of irony.
"This is probably a prophecy left by the betrayers."
The betrayers naturally referred to the chosen ones who once sealed the Old Gods together, "I do not deny that the seal will eventually loosen, and by then, the Master and His kind will return to this world. However, forgive me for saying, what you have done to date proves that you do not believe this is an inescapable fate, right?"
Behemoth looked directly into Ethan's eyes, "You have long surpassed those betrayers, so why take their prophecy as an iron rule?"
Ethan had to admit Behemoth was eloquent, with a potential for becoming a psychological therapist.
Old An and Old Ba might have already returned to this world, and if the seal ever broke, they probably wouldn't bring destruction.
One was busy traveling, another was busy filming, with so much to do, what necessity was there to destroy the world?
This was Ethan's long-held belief, hence in his dealings with the Old Gods, he always maintained the principle of positive communication.
"And here is where you can truly return to your original thoughts."
Behemoth turned to the bookshelf, "Here, you can find the laws to change this space in books; everything here will become what you wish to see. So, there's only one last question left — how will you determine whether all of this is real or just an illusory dream?"
During the courage test, Kane also faced the same interrogation.
Lindong listened attentively.
She was indeed moved.
Behemoth said, "Even if I assure you everything you create here is real, you would not believe the promise of a high demon, but that's not important. What's important is, if the world in the dream is better than reality, why distinguish?"
It sounded like a demon's trick, but it was also their greatest strength.
They always sketched beautiful scenes for humans, and even knowing they were false, countless people still chased after them.
In The Matrix, someone once posed the question of the "red pill" and "blue pill." Decades into the future when brain-machine interfaces actually appeared, this question from a fictional movie became a real-world issue.
Before Ethan gave a genuine answer, he found himself in this world.
He just hadn't expected the "blue pill" and "red pill" issue to chase him here, to be questioned by a high demon in a world filled with magic without brain-machine interfaces.
"I want to know Sincaro's thoughts. Maybe you should let Him come see me himself."
"It's not the right time yet, Mr. Ethan."
Behemoth shook his head, "Even though He wants to see you immediately, it's not the right time yet."
"Because 'I' am incomplete."
Ethan voiced his speculation. What truly interested Sincaro was not him, but what Old Ba mentioned as a part of the "ancestor."
Now, while helping them "realize their dreams," Sincaro also revealed His true intention.
Sincaro wished for them to stay here.
Ethan vaguely discerned Sincaro's intent, knowing that thousands of years had passed since Kadela proposed the "god descent" theory. He believed Sincaro would not have remained stagnant over those thousands of years and might even have developed a true "Resurrection Technique."
