Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 248: Return to the elves

I wasn't worried when I heard this threat.

After all, there were plenty of ways for us to take care of this threat.

The simplest way was to use the illusions and make sure that no one would be able to see Aragon.

But still, it was better if she agreed to what we were offering.

So that was why I didn't waste any time in saying, "I'm sure that you know the position that high elves have in the elven race. At the same time, I'm sure that you know the weight that someone with multiple spirits would have."

With a nod to Aragon, there were two spirits that were summoned.

The dark elf looked surprised to see this before narrowing her eyes to look at him.

Aragon just looked back at her with a smile on his face as if he wasn't bothered by the way she looked at him at all.

After another long silence, the dark elf finally said, "You're stating things that everyone knows. You still haven't gotten to the main point."

She narrowed her eyes to look at me after she said this.

I didn't mind the curt tone to her voice as I calmly said, "It's very simple. I want you to work with me. As long as you work with me, I have a way to take care of this city and gain benefits for both our sides."

"And you would do this without actually wanting anything? Do you really think that I would believe that you would want the benefits that the rest of the tribes would give you? It's unlikely that you'll even see that since you're a puppet demon king."

"Saying that really is hurtful. I might be a puppet, but who said that I'm not a demon king?" I said in a casual voice as if I didn't care what the dark elf was saying.

She narrowed her eyes even more to look at me when I said this.

Since I had her attention, I started releasing a bit of my presence.

The moment that she felt this, the dark elf couldn't help revealing a strange look.

"You…When did you gain this power?" She slowly asked in a hesitant voice.

"I'm the demon king, it's only natural that I would have this power in the first place. It was just that they discovered me before I had even developed myself, so they put me in as a puppet. But now that I've had some time to grow…" I didn't finish my words, but the way that I left them hanging was more than enough for the dark elf to understand.

The dark elf didn't say anything as she looked at me with a strange look.

Just from this look alone, I could tell that she was slowly being moved.

It wasn't strange that she was slowly being moved like this suggestion.

After a while, the dark elf finally said, "Then what do you want?"

"It's simple, I want the dark elves to support me."

The dark elf didn't seem surprised to hear this, but she didn't agree either.

Instead, she just narrowed her eyes to look at me as if she was trying to figure out something.

After another silence, the dark elf finally said, "You should know that the dark elves have always tried to maintain our neutrality since there's nothing to gain from getting involved in the conflict of others."

I gave a simple nod without saying anything else.

As expected…

"But…if you can promise that you won't drag the dark elves into any personal conflicts, then we can support you."

This was a double edged sword that the dark elf was presenting me with.

After all, she was basically saying that the dark elves would only help if it was for the good of the demon race. She was saying that the dark elves wouldn't take any responsibility in protecting me.

I didn't mind this since this was just a shrewd thing to do.

If she didn't add this, then there was no doubt that the dark elves would be in danger.

At the same time, I wasn't planning on doing something like that.

If I could get the dark elves on my side, then they would only be used when it was the right time. Otherwise, there really wasn't anything to gain from exposing that the dark elves were working with me.

What I wanted was to become a true demon king that united the demon race.

Since I had expected this, I didn't hesitate to give a simple nod in response.

Seeing this, the dark elf gave a nod as well before turning to look at Aragon and asking, "What are you planning to do for us dark elves?"

"It's very simple. I'll find a way for you to do something that benefits the elves. When that happens, while you won't be able to return to the elven race, at least you'll be able to contact them again."

The dark elf narrowed her eyes as if she didn't fully believe him, but she didn't say anything in the end.

In the settings of the game, one of the things that the dark elves wanted the most was the recognition of the elves.

Even though the elves had kicked them out and they were forced to work with the demons, they were still elves in the end. They still wanted to be recognized by the other elves since they were all elves.

Since the setting of the game carried over to this world, it meant that the dark elves wanted the same thing.

That was why the dark elf was moved by these words.

In the end, she said with a sigh, "I'll bring it up with the elder, but we still have to escape this place first. Do you have the hero on your side as well?"

"Don't worry about him, I have a way to deal with him." I said as a smile crept onto my face.
