Threads of the Soul

Chapter 347: Come one Come all! See the Amazing Colour Changing Man!

The Director stuttered in response to Seth's incredulous question. This man had barged into his facility, his home, bringing with him an entire entourage of hooligans that helped the stranger destroy his incredibly expensive, cutting edge equipment.

Equipment that was paid for and supplied by all the governments in the world for the protection of this facility and the safe keeping of the subject, a subject he freed and turned into... an infant girl!

And what's worse?! He tracked mud and dirt in with him, staining his pristine floors while they ruined his home! Hell, they even brought with them a man made of dirt, as if to spite him for the lovely cleanliness of his home!

Did these thugs have any idea how difficult it was to find a janitor for this place, and to get them the necessary clearance?! It's not like they could get some black ops unit and hand them mops!

It took years to find the right individual, someone with the right skills, dedication and more importantly someone who wouldn't mind leaving the world behind!

Seth frowned softly, mostly because he was struggling to hold in his laughter. as he watched the Directors face shift colours. Starting first with a nice rosy pink, then shifting to a beet red before eventually settling on a violet and scarlet. Alongside his wonderful chameleon colour changing, The man's veins were bulging out so much that they threatened to tear open his skin.

There was one vein on his forehead that was wriggling like an epileptic worm that he found particularly amusing. He wasn't the only one.

While Seth was holding back his amusement, little Nixie was laughing heartily as she found herself drawn to the sight of his thick moustache. The hairs of the bushy beast were bristling and trembling so much that they resembled a millipede stamping its feet in a tantrum.

Astra had to hold on extra tight to the little minx to stop her from grabbing the bushy beast and accidentally ripping it from his face.

The thing was no matter how hard Seth thought, and he thought about it for at least one whole second before his migraine got too painful for him to bother any longer, Seth just couldn't figure out why he was so angry, and why he kept muttering about a mop.

The Director was about to explode with anger, or simply have his head explode from sheer rage, before the amusing colour of his face shifted once more, this time to a deathly pale. He swayed slightly, looking like he was about to puke, before quickly steadying himself.

At the same time, Seth felt a shift in the air as something that had been missing finally returned. It was like the air became breathable once more, after lacking oxygen for so long.

It took him a few seconds to realise that it was mana returning to the air, seeping into the facility and infesting the air like it had with the rest of the planet. And with the mana, came something else. The passenger that they had grown used to, but the people of the facility hadn't.

The Director's eyes became unfocused as he stared at the words hanging in the air in front of him, words that only he could see.

"Integration... Wh-what is this?"

Seth and Astra exchanged glances, having a silent conversation in the span of a second, before Seth strolled over to the Director and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Director, I need you to stay calm and listen to me very closely. I can explain what is happening to you. The same thing is happening to the rest of your people, in fact, and happened to us too once upon a time.

But to do that, I need you to gather them all in one location, and do so rather quickly as well. Think you can manage that? Send them all to the room with the spaceship."

The nameless Director had to peel his eyes away from the screen in front of him, looking into Seth's eyes with an expression like a lost child. He didn't know if it was because of his gentle attitude, or the fact he could kill him and was choosing to help him. Or maybe it was just the shock of everything that was happening and simple mental exhaustion.

But for some reason he decided to trust this strange alien.

He nodded softly, turning and walking out of the room in a daze. Like he was sleep walking, he strolled over to a hand scanner on the wall. It beeped and flashed with a green light after he scanned his hand, before the panel swung open to reveal a recess in the wall and a hard line telephone inside.

As he spoke into the receiver, his words echoed throughout the entire facility. Speaking into every single room at once. Even the bathrooms.

"All personnel, This is Director Zero. I know you are seeing and hearing things. I know... because I am seeing them too. I am ordering you to ignore them, stop what you are doing and gather in the Anomaly containment.

Repeat, all personnel to Anomaly containment, I don't care what you are doing."

Seth nodded softly, as the Director placed the phone back into the recess and closed the panel over. Beside him, Astra leaned close and whispered in his ear.

"I know why we are gathering them, but why that room?"

Seth simply shrugged and looked back at her with a mischievous smile, taking Nixie from her arms.

"I wanted to see the space ship again. Plus Nixie deserves to see it too."

Nixie giggled as Seth attacked her cheek with kisses, earning a shake of the head of Astra. Even if she couldn't help but smile softly at his antics, she still had to act like the responsible one. Because if she didn't, no one would.

Retracing their steps, and witnessing their path of destruction in the process, the group made their way back to the room they had arrived in. While they walked, Nixie flew over head, her arms stretched out as she swooped and looped like an excited bird but she never flew too far again.

That was all thanks to Seth's ethereal threads, which he was using as a toddler harness. All he had to do was wrap them around her draconic soul projection, and she would be leashed.

Seth's little group of ruffians shrank as they walked, his Dead Men and Bob peeling off one by one to investigate the rest of the facility under the guise of looking for stragglers. They would do that, naturally, but they were also going to find out what other secrets dwelled here. Such as those crystal powered guns the soldiers had been waving around before they fled.

They weren't the first to reach the space ships room, as a few scientists in their perfect white coats were nervously wringing their hands alongside the group of soldierss that had greeted Seth's group when they arrived. They were still waiting, just in case more visitors arrived.

When they saw the Director, the scientists rushed forwards and immediately barraged him with questions, while the soldiers gave suspicious looks towards Seth, Astra and their floating infant.

But the questions fell on deaf ears, as the Director simply waved them away and told them to wait.

One by one, the individuals of the facility trickled into the room, with most of them being scientists as half of the security force was already here. When the trickle ended, the Director frowned softly and performed a quick head count, before double checking his count.

He seemed perplexed, until his eyes drifted to the corner where a suspiciously lumpy white sheet resided. Ah yes... there was his last man.

With a heavy sigh, the Director nodded towards Seth to tell him that everyone was present. Nodding back, Seth stepped forwards and clapped his hands a few times to gather their attention, as if they all weren't already giving him strange looks simply for being here.

Clearing his throat, Seth addressed them like a lecturer.

"Welcome welcome. Glad you could all make it. I'm sure you're wondering, who's this dashing man and how is he so lucky as to have such a lovely family? And for that, I have to say thank you. Really, it's a gift.

Speaking of gifts, you are all about to receive one! Well... some of you are."

His eyes scanned the crowd, which was easy since it wasn't even 50 people, and divided them up in his mind. The soldiers would most likely develop bio mutations, although one or two of them had let themselves go in their... event-less lives.

The same could be said for the scientists. Psychic and perhaps an elemental or two. Soul mutations were rare, but possible amongst any of them. But more of the scientists were lacking in the body department, so it was hard to tell if any of them were good enough to mutate.

As he was segregating them in his mind, sorting them into their different possibilities, he saw a few of their eyes lose focus and stare into space ahead of them. The telltale sign that someone was looking at their interface, and he remembered all too well what screen they would be looking at now.

He cleared his throat and continued talking, bringing their attention back to him.

"I have a little bad news though. Whether you get a gift or not... this next part is gonna hurt."
