Threads of the Soul

Chapter 346: An Old Soul

It was such a beautiful and tender moment, that lasted all of five seconds before the adorable girl clenched her fist slightly and crushed Seth's finger. The metal of his prosthetic creaked as it crumpled like paper beneath her tiny fingers, melting the smile from Seth's face.

It was a good thing he used this hand, as having that happen to his fleshy hand would be... less than pleasant. But it seriously seemed like he was cursed or something. His hand was always being crushed or broken or cut off. Was he just doomed to never be allowed to have a functional right hand again?

"Yeah... She's a little stronger than you'd think. She can also fly. Care to explain how such a miracle child came to be?"

Seth smirked as the desire to make a 'birds and the bees' joke crept into his mind, but a singular glance at Astra dissuaded him from that idea. She was giving him one of her threatening smiles.

The smiles that didn't reach her eyes, because her eyes were too busy holding all her murderous intent. The type of smile that every woman seemed to have inside them as their way of saying "behave or I'll kill you."

He hated that smile. Lea's was even worse.

Seth pried his finger from the tiny hands steel grip and pouting slightly at its crumpled and ruined appearance, before letting out a soft sigh.

"Honestly, I don't know. My head is killing me. Whatever I did... I can't really remember it. I wish I could, because its a lot of knowledge that I wish I could still access. But its gone.

I can't even get it from my journal because, well..."

He summoned the journal, the pages flipping open until it opened at a spread of nonsensical writing in a language not of earth.

"In his last moments, Prometheus encrypted it. If I had to guess, judging by how much my brain is screaming, that I'm not ready for that knowledge. Not all at once anyways. I'll have to decrypt it to fully understand the specifics of what I did but...

From what I can remember, I think I reincarnated him."

[The correct term is Re-Biogenesis. The process of life forms creating another life form, in this case while also using the remnants of a third life form as the foundation.]

Seth raised his eyebrows at Angel's interjection and glanced at Astra, who nodded softly to confirm she was hearing a similar explanation from her own Guardian.

[Reproduction in different species is complex and varied. Some reproduce physically, while others reproduce metaphysically.

In this case, it was Metaphysical option of essence blending, popular in asexual species or those that develop the technology for same-sex reproduction.

Your individual essences are combined together through the injection of your mana, and woven into a new soul. That is the usual process. In this process, the soul already existed and was simply saturated with your essences, then woven by you personally into a form you desired.

With the powerful soul as the base, even with the power lost in the process, and the hand woven soul, the resulting child was born with abilities and the power of a peak transcendent.]

At the same time, their eyes trailed back to the adorable face of the young girl, who simply beamed a smile back at them without a care in the world.

To think that this tiny angel was one of the most powerful beings on their planet at the current moment, it was almost terrifying. However there was something far more pressing Seth had to consider, as he tapped his mangled finger against his chin and fell into deep contemplation.

Astra raised an eyebrow, looking at him strangely.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm trying to think of a name... We can't just keep calling her Girl. Unless..."

"No! And why would I leave naming her up to you? If I did that she'd probably come back with a terrible name, like Pizza or Scrambled Eggs. Oh, uh... no Offence Bob."

She quickly shot an apologetic look over to Bob, who was looking on silently. He shrugged his shoulders, shifting his blank expressionless face into a copy of Seth's, with a non-chalant expression.

"It's fine. You are right anyways. I'm sure he is already considering the name Bobbi for our new sister."

"Oh! Actually, what if we did-"

"No!"

Astra and Bob quickly shut that idea down, causing Seth to huff in annoyance and pout as he fell into thought once more. Was he really that bad at naming things? He named Titus and that was a good name!

And what was wrong with Omelette's name? It was cute. Sure it was a name that came from the fact he wanted to turn his egg into an actual Omelette, but that didn't matter. It was still a cute and fun name! Nothing wrong with that.

Hm... This was hard. He wracked his brains before finally a few ideas popped into his head.

"I've got it! What about Ash? Or even Phoenix? Because she's a phoenix rising from the ashes, reborn from flames."

"Hmm... Ash isn't bad. But Phoenix sounds too much like a town name. Oh, how about Nixie? You like that sweetie, you want to be called Nixie?"

"Hehe, Yeah! Nixie Nixie Nixie!"

She lifted herself out of Astra's arms, flying around her in circles as she repeated her name over and over. Astra turned to Seth, giving him a smug smile, which made him roll his eyes and sigh in annoyance.

It was basically his suggestion, so that still counted as a point towards his amazing naming sense.

As Nixie flew, the Dead Men in the room whispered amongst each other, trading hushed mutters. Seth managed to catch a few words, mainly 'Soul' and 'Monster' and quickly shifted his vision to see what they were looking at.

As he switched to his Soul Sight, Nixie's body was replaced not by the small flickering flame of a normal soul, but an ethereal dragon that took her place.

Its large wings flapped against the air, propelling her through the air, as a long tail whipped behind her as she flew.

Her delicate little hands had been replaced by long claws, scales covered every inch of her body and curling horns sprouted from her head. Finally, her adorable face had been replaced by the terrifying, lizard-like snout of a true dragon, but which was still twisted into a child-like and joyful smile as she giggled endlessly.

He would need to finally return to his studies if he wanted to find out exactly what he did to her, and what powers he had given her in his black out. But for now, knowing that she had the power of an ancient dragon crammed into that tiny body was terrifying, but also reassuring.

It meant that she would be safe in this horrible world, even from birth. What more could he ask for. Although why she was born looking like a toddler instead of, well, a new born. He hadn't quite figured that one out.

By the way Bob's sandy body was shifting with excitement, he could already tell that he was sharing the news of a new sibling with his brothers. Brothers that would truly make it hell for any boy that broke her heart in the future.

Seth was already feeling sorry for those boys. Then again... if she did get her heart broken nothing that his sons could do would ever be comparable to what he would do to those boys for hurting his precious angel.

Hmm... where did that thought come from? He didn't know, but it felt right.

The Dead Men he would have to ask to keep quiet about the whole thing, at least the involvment of Seth instead of Lord Corvus, as he couldn't exactly hide the fact he had a daughter.

But the Dead Men had always stayed quiet about his identity. With their natural ability to see souls, and thus the intricate web of soul threads that Seth was at the centre of, they were always the first to know who he was.

Yet even when they gained the ability to talk to others, they kept his secret. He was thankful for that, but it didn't hurt to make sure. It was possible they just didn't realise it was a secret.

'Well... Prometheus is free and I finally got the daughter I didn't even know I wanted. This was a good day.

I guess if that's everything, we are done here.'

"Um, Could someone please explain to me what is going on here? W-where did that child come from? And who in the world are you people? More importantly, how did you find my facility! This is supposed to be a secret!

I think you owe me some answers after everything! After all, I am the Director here, and you have broken into my home!"

A gruff, refined voice came from behind as all eyes simultaneously turned to the source. Director Zero stood tall, his chest puffed out in an attempt to look strong and intimidating. His glorious moustache bristled and his fists trembled.

But his attempt to look tough and lord his authority over these strange aliens was completely shot down as Seth muttered the same thought on everyone's mind as they stared at him.

"Oh, You're still here? Why?"
