North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 541: Bait in Hand

Jimmy and Mahong, Chuck and others sat in the bar for a while and told Woody to cover their tab, then slipped out. Today, he was shot, with so many people outside investigating for him, though part of it was on Kevin's instructions, but after all, he's his father-in-law, not an outsider.

Mahong and Chuck had no objections. The way NYPD was half-powered today, they clearly knew it was from Deputy Director Kevin's side. Jimmy needed to quickly get back to meet them and have a chat, after all, they're already family.

When Jimmy arrived, Kevin had already returned home. He greeted Nia and the others before being called to the study by Kevin.

As Kevin walked towards the sofa, he asked, "What happened today?"

Jimmy went to the bookshelf to get some wine and glasses, "I was shot on the road at noon, I'm quite sure I injured her, but she's yet to be found."

Kevin: "Her? A woman?"

Jimmy: "Yes, I saw the driver in the car and injured her, but didn't see her face clearly."

Kevin: "Do we have any clues now?"

Jimmy: "We found a car she abandoned, there was a person in the trunk who she shot dead, suspected to silence him to prevent anyone from knowing her appearance.

Additionally, a fire truck is missing from the fire department, the radio was damaged and discarded by the roadside, and two firefighters are missing. I asked Chuck to contact various hospitals as I suspect that the fire truck might have been used to transport an injured person to a hospital for surgery."

Jimmy opened his suit to reveal a revolver under his arm, ".357 Magnum bullet, likely hit the torso, if she doesn't have emergency surgery, she won't survive."

Kevin nodded, "Continue following up on this case, call me if needed."

Jimmy: "Thank you, Kevin. Cheers."

The two took a sip of the wine, and Kevin spun his glass in his hands, "The leader of the Poison Snake Gang approached me."

Jimmy: "Francisco Montello? What did he do?"

Kevin: "He backed down, offered apologies."

Jimmy: "What's your take? His people caused Nia's car accident, whatever decision you make, I have no objections."

Kevin nodded, "Alright, I understand. Let's leave it at that."

Kevin took another sip, and Jimmy: "Need me to warn him?"

Kevin shook his head, "I'll handle it."

Jimmy shrugged, finished his drink, "Okay. They're yours."

Being able to become a deputy director, handling a small gang that only controls a few streets in Hell's Kitchen is no problem. After all, he's someone who has come through the chaos of the 80s and 90s. Jimmy believes Kevin has enough means to deal with the Poison Snake Gang.

Kevin: "Go spend some time with Nia, I have a bit of business to handle."

Jimmy nodded, stood up and left the study, closing the door behind him.

Sitting with Nia on the sofa watching TV, the phone suddenly rang, "Jimmy, they've found the missing fire truck, a patrol car spotted it with fake plates coming out of Brooklyn Royal Mountain Hospital."

Jimmy: "Are you following it?"

Chuck: "It's being tracked, two disguised police cars."

Jimmy: "Send people to lock down the hospital, investigate if any surgery was done, and who performed it, the identity of the patient. I'm on my way."

Jimmy hung up, said to Nia: "Nia, I have to leave for a while, there's a lead."

Nia nodded, "Go on, be careful."

Jimmy got up to leave, Nia slowly stood up and walked towards the study, "Dad, they found a clue."

Kevin glanced at Nia at the doorway and nodded, "You go rest, I'll contact Chuck to ask."

-----------------

Jimmy drove towards Brooklyn, calling Chuck every so often to ask for the location. The disguised police cars were still tailing the fire truck, although it was driving with the sirens on the road, so they could only follow from a distance. Staying right behind would definitely get them spotted, and not only the disguised cars, but several patrol cars were also watching from intersections ahead.

The fire truck had already left Brooklyn, entering Queens. Jimmy slowed down as he approached its location. They all had the same thought, following this fire truck might lead them to their base or some important figure.

However, they were thinking too much. As it approached the waterfront, the fire truck turned off the lights and sirens, and even the headlights, stopping on a small path outside a tiny dock.

Jimmy and the others hadn't expected it to stop there, so they could only drive past the fire truck one by one from the back and continue forward. As Jimmy drove by, he glanced at the fire truck; there were two people in the driver's seat upfront, and in the back, an ambulance compartment, a person lay secured on a stretcher. Judging by the figure, it was a woman.

After making a turn at the front intersection, Jimmy drove back but had turned off his headlights, stopping in a patch of shadow.

His phone rang, and Jimmy, watching the ambulance in the distance, picked up. Chuck's voice came through: "Royal Mountain Hospital has been temporarily closed. They did perform an emergency surgery, but it wasn't on the surgery list."

Jimmy: "And the patient?"

Chuck: "Not in the hospital. They escorted the patient onto a fire truck and left through the side entrance. The hospital's surveillance was checked, there's no camera on the side entrance, only at the main entrance. The lead surgeon has been arrested, and the other participants in the surgery have also been temporarily detained pending further investigation."
