North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 529: Going Public Means Trouble

The next day, Jimmy took a bottle of champagne with a box from the liquor cabinet and brought it to the Anti-Terrorism Bureau. He knocked on Caitlin's office door, Caitlin glanced at Jimmy and waved him in.

Jimmy: "Director Caitlin, thanks. This is a gift for you."

He smiled and placed the champagne on Caitlin's desk. Caitlin raised an eyebrow and looked at Jimmy, "What's going on?"

Jimmy: "Nothing, just thanking you."

Caitlin: "Even thanks need a reason, you didn't mention the reason last night."

Jimmy: "I've got good news for you, now we're just friends, not colleagues."

Caitlin suddenly stood up, pressing her hands on the desk; her previously calm face suddenly turned tense, "What are you saying?"

Jimmy gestured down with his hands, "Don't get worked up, calm down. I've left the CIA."

Caitlin squinted at Jimmy, calming down a little, her facial expression slowly changing. After thinking for a while, she sat down, "Sit, let's talk, what's going on?"

Jimmy: "I've left the CIA, the records have been deleted, so the records on your side won't appear anymore, they've vanished."

Caitlin: "So, the archives are empty too? It seems you must've lost a lot this time."

Jimmy nodded, "Quite a huge favor, not just one or two, but the result is good, I no longer need to worry about being a double agent."

Caitlin: "Can I know why?"

Jimmy glanced at the cabinet in Caitlin's office with a few cups and half a bottle of Bourbon whiskey, it seemed Caitlin had a habit of drinking after work, "Want a drink?"

Caitlin didn't refuse, turned around, grabbed two cups, and poured whiskey into them. Jimmy clinked glasses and took a sip, "Remember the last mission?"

Seeing Caitlin nod, Jimmy continued: "I came from the CIA, if there's nothing special, I could continue lurking; after all, this identity didn't affect me much.

The last mission exposed me a bit, although not completely, I still have to consider future life. Having an identity that can be openly shared with family and friends is very important. If they find out, I might be directly delisted."

Caitlin: "So it was because I contacted Hughes last time, causing him to suspect your identity?"

Jimmy: "That's all in the past now, the most important thing is I'm free now. Cheers."

Caitlin clinked glasses with him again, sipping a bit, "So, you took the records and want to destroy them?"

Jimmy nodded: "Yeah, but don't worry, although we're not colleagues anymore, at least we're still friends."

Caitlin: "Alright, to friendship. Okay, I've got the answers, that's it for today."

Jimmy: "Okay, goodbye, Caitlin."

Caitlin: "Goodbye."

Jimmy knew Caitlin needed to digest this news, so he didn't linger and left Caitlin's office directly, went downstairs, and drove back to the office.

In the afternoon, Jimmy called James and Nia in advance, arranged to have dinner together in the evening; this time he chose a Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown, but Jimmy would need to pick them up after work.

Jimmy brought James and Mary to the restaurant, Nia was already waiting for them there. James and Mary seemed much more interested in Nia than Jimmy, they kept chatting after ordering until the dishes were served.

To be honest, watching James and Mary happily converse with Nia made Jimmy happy. After all, they're the people he cares about most, getting along well is a good thing. It's just that James and Mary have never been this joyful in front of him, at least not in his memory.

The Cantonese flavors suited these Americans very well, the barbecue platter and baked shrimp were Nia's favorites. James and Mary were impressed with the crispy chicken, as for Jimmy, his favorites were the scallop and lotus leaf rice, and stir-fried fish with kailan. Well, primarily the staple rice, which he seldom had at home for dinner, it's rare to taste such authentic flavor.

James and Jimmy chatted briefly; due to Jimmy's current job issues, his time off working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs was significantly more than before, so they hoped to schedule the engagement ceremony in the near future. Of course, this near future would be within one or two months.

Nia had already discussed it with her family in advance, so this weekend, James and Mary will visit Nia's home with Jimmy. Afterward, Jimmy could leave, as James would have a good talk with Kevin Miller and the others, which relates little to Jimmy.

During the meal, Jimmy's phone rang. He glanced at it, told the others, took his cell phone, and left to a quiet place to answer: "Hi, how's it going over there, Mahong."

Mahong: "It's going pretty smoothly, I'd like to arrange Pam and Cameron to return to Chicago."

Jimmy: "Are you sure it's safe?"

Mahong: "Yeah, no problem."

Jimmy: "OK, I'll arrange it."

Mahong: "Thanks."

Jimmy: "You're welcome, when are you returning to Manhattan?"

Mahong: "Should be soon, wrapping up here."

Jimmy: "Alright, when you return, we'll have a good drink."

Mahong: "OK, no problem."

After hanging up the phone, Jimmy dialed Charon's number, told him to arrange for Pam and Cameron to return to Chicago, and that he would settle the expenses at the Intercontinental Hotel afterward.
