North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 491: Unexpected Gain from the Smuggling Case

Jimmy came to the gap in the fence and observed for a moment; what Heart Eye perceived differed somewhat from reality. Jimmy could clearly see many scattered footprints on the ground here, indicating that more than one or two people had entered the dock through this gap, or rather, they have come and gone through here multiple times.

The surveillance angle at the dock's entrance couldn't see this gap. Jimmy bent down and passed through the wire fence, moving towards his target while observing left and right to ensure no one would discover him. Of course, he also checked for cameras; even though he removed the FBI insignia, being caught on film would still be troublesome.

This was a private dock, lacking the capacity for container cargo ships, with only the ability to dock medium and small yachts, fishing boats, and other small vessels. Thus, there were no large container stacks on the dock, only some simple warehouses and small buildings for storing equipment and performing simple repairs.

Jimmy's target was one of the warehouses. From the outside, it appeared normal, but based on the location and distance given by Nancy, it was almost certain that Brian's phone was in that position.

Closing the distance into Heart Eye's range, Jimmy finally saw the situation inside the warehouse. There were quite a few crates and equipment piled inside, and a person was lying horizontally on a single sofa, seemingly resting.

No one else was in the warehouse, which was not good. Jimmy's target was those two gunmen, and finding Brian was meant to lead to the gunmen. Now there was only one person here, so it seemed things wouldn't go as smoothly.

Frowning, Jimmy cautiously approached, observing his surroundings carefully to ensure there was no surveillance before sticking to the side of the warehouse. There were no other entrances or exits except for a large door at the front, which was still open.

Just as Jimmy was about to reach the door, several flashes came from the sea surface, and the person on the sofa also stood up, raising his hand.

Jimmy immediately ducked to the side; their movements reminded Jimmy of a classic scene, signaling with flashes, meaning they were connecting with someone on the sea.

Interesting. Jimmy wasn't in a hurry to grab someone but waited behind the warehouse for those from the sea to come ashore. The scene basically confirmed it was either smuggling or a gang meetup. Even though it wasn't his target, taking the opportunity to score some performance wasn't bad either. After all, there was only one person in the warehouse, and the gunmen he was after weren't present; it wouldn't matter to wait a bit.

Ruiz and Taylor drove away from the dock, and after a while, Ruiz pulled over, with Taylor following suit and stopping behind him.

Ruiz got out and gestured for Taylor to come over, "Taylor, you go back first. You can investigate this case normally tomorrow, issue the wanted notices, notify the police department to assist with the investigation, etc., just follow the normal procedures."

Taylor: "I have no problem, but you guys..."

Ruiz shook his head, "Don't overthink it, just conduct the investigation as normal."

Taylor sighed, "Alright, I understand. Thank Jimmy for me, Ruiz, thank you both for your hard work."

Ruiz: "We're all on the same team, no need for thanks, just go back. Oh, do you have any cigarettes?"

Taylor took out half a pack of cigarettes from the car and handed them, along with a lighter, to Ruiz. "Then I'll head back first, goodbye, Ruiz."

Ruiz waved his hand, lit a cigarette, and leaned against his car watching Taylor drive away.

Hughes had made it clear; even if not through official channels, they had to deal with it. So now, this matter had spiraled out of control, at least from the official perspective.

Taylor's normal investigation was just a decoy; the bigger the ruckus, the better the cover-up for Jimmy's actions, drawing attention away meant fewer people would track Jimmy's whereabouts.

Ruiz didn't plan on going back; wrapping up things on Jimmy's end might require him to get involved if necessary.

Ruiz felt no pressure in handling certain affairs. For someone who could hold a position in an organized crime investigation team by their thirties, there was no way they could be a saint...

-----------------

Jimmy waited a few minutes. A small boat came within Heart Eye's range and docked at a small pier. One person jumped onto the pier and tied the rope to the pier's post, while the two remaining people on the boat started passing crates to him. In no time, a dozen crates were piled on the pier.

The person in the warehouse pushed a flat cart towards the pier. They loaded the crates onto the cart. The two from the boat also disembarked, and the four of them pushed the goods towards the warehouse together.

After they moved the crates off the cart, Jimmy moved from behind the warehouse to the doorway. The warehouse was unlit, with only a few small lights providing a bit of illumination, enough to prevent them from being completely blind.

"Don't move! Hands up!"

Jimmy drew his Glock and pointed at the four people inside the warehouse. Upon hearing the shout, they were already reaching for their guns; those in this line of work certainly weren't saints.

"Bang bang..." As they turned to shoot towards the door, Jimmy had already fired and dove to the ground.

This warehouse wasn't built with bullet-resistant brick walls; hiding on the side of the door was no different from standing at gunpoint.

Standing at the warehouse doorway, viewed from inside looking out, Jimmy at the door was very conspicuous. Thus, after diving to the ground, Jimmy fired a few shots then crawled aside; all the bullets from the few in the dark environment missed him.
