North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 482: Getting Things Done with Money (Part 2)

Jimmy took a sip of coffee and put down the cup: "I'm always bothering you; I really feel bad about it. Is there anything I can do for you, Winston?"

Winston: "Don't worry about these things, friends are supposed to help each other. When you have trouble and need help, you come to see me, I'm very glad."

Jimmy: "Thanks anyway. By the way, I have a bar on the Upper West Side. When you have time, come by and see how my drinks are."

Winston nodded with a smile: "Of course, I'll definitely come when I have time."

Jimmy stood up, and Winston stood up too. Jimmy extended both hands and shook Winston's hands, then turned and left the rooftop to go downstairs.

When he arrived at the hotel entrance, the valet had already brought his car and parked it at the door. The service was really satisfying; it seems someone notified them when Jimmy was at the door.

Jimmy tipped the valet and took the keys to drive home.

He picked up the anonymous cell phone from his study and dialed Justin's number, "Justin, has this batch been settled?"

Justin: "Not yet, why?"

Jimmy: "Don't handle it now; I need to do something at the hotel, and it's just the right time to use it. How many are there?"

Justin: "Over 350."

Jimmy: "OK, can you help me deliver it? Just send it to the hotel, deduct the shipping fee."

Justin: "I'll take care of it."

After hanging up, Jimmy pulled out the information Tom had given earlier and deleted all information related to Rick, only retaining Greg's information. All printers on the market carry specific codes; printed documents can be traced to their source. Jimmy didn't use his study's printer to print; he took the USB drive to an outside photocopying store to print a copy.

With the information in hand, Jimmy returned home. Justin called, "I've contacted the hotel, you can go directly, my credit is still good, it will certainly be delivered, not for a short while."

Jimmy: "Thanks."

Jimmy poured himself a drink; this was the first time dealing with such a thing, hiring a hitman, and he was still an FBI Senior Agent, which made him feel pressured.

Jimmy hadn't refrained from doing such things, but it was always for a reason, personally handled. Now he had to leave matters to someone else to wrap up. Could it be done? Any repercussions? Would they clear all traces like he does?

First times are always daunting, especially when someone like Jimmy doesn't feel very secure. He drank the wine, considering it as fortifying courage for himself.

At night, Jimmy had dinner and took the information to the hotel. The front desk staff, Charon, didn't contact Winston this time and directly took Jimmy upstairs, though not to the rooftop late at night, but to a suite instead.

Winston looked at the two sheets of paper Jimmy handed over, "Government personnel?"

Jimmy nodded: "Not exactly government personnel, just consultants after retirement, and only one is, the other is just an ordinary person."

Winston placed the information on the coffee table, leaned back on the sofa, considering how to handle this.

After a while, Winston looked at Jimmy: "Your request is just to take out these two people, without other conditions, such as deadlines, needing photos, or acquiring items, correct?"

Jimmy nodded: "Yes, no other requirements. The only requests are confidentiality and not to cause a big scene. Of course, it's best if finished promptly."

Winston nodded: "Now, let's talk about the price, how much can you offer?"

Jimmy: "I have no experience; what do you suggest?"

Winston: "Alright, the first target is one million, and the second target is three hundred thousand, I think it's a fair price."

Jimmy: "OK, I'm agreeable, given that a skilled person can get it done quickly. Justin probably contacted you; I have a batch of funds temporarily stored with him; he'll transfer it to the hotel, and it'll be more than enough to cover the payment."

Winston: "Of course, I trust Justin's guarantee. So, deal?"

Jimmy extended his right hand: "Deal."

After shaking hands, Winston invited Jimmy to sit at the underground bar, and they went there together.

Winston sat in his usual spot, Jimmy opposite him, and the server placed two martinis on the table.

Jimmy looked around the surroundings, "The environment here is really nice, I like jazz music, but unfortunately, my bar doesn't quite suit this style."

Winston chuckled: "If you're interested, you can try doing the same."

Jimmy: "Maybe someday, for now, that bar operates normally; if I have the chance to open a second one, it might be worth considering this style."

Winston: "I have a question, with your capabilities, aren't there things you can accomplish on your own?"

Jimmy sighed: "My identity restricts many things from being handled personally, especially those cross-region matters."

Winston: "Are you interested in traveling abroad?"

Jimmy: "Oh? Is there something to do?"

Winston: "No, just chatting. You know we have a presence worldwide; if you go abroad, there's sufficient information to aid you."

Jimmy: "That depends on the opportunities; you understand my profession, aside from vacations, I seldom leave here."

Winston: "Just talking casually, nothing much."

Jimmy raised his glass to indicate: "By the way, are the people you're arranging yours or outsiders this time?"

Winston shook his head, raised his glass, "Drink."

Alright, it seems Winston wouldn't give an answer regarding it. Since it's already handed to Winston, Jimmy had no real need to delve into who would execute the task.

As the actual controller of the New York Intercontinental Hotel, Jimmy believed Winston would certainly have a way to accomplish it; if promised yet undelivered, Jimmy would need to consider any extra actions.

They chatted casually for a while, after finishing the drink, Jimmy stood up and left the hotel.

Back at the apartment, Jimmy sat in the study, turned on the music, and began weighing his gains and losses. In fact, the operation offered Jimmy a lot, especially the experience in handling private matters, and of course, many lessons.

Back in Texas, Jimmy had the support of the FBI and DEA; although private matters couldn't be shared openly, the subsequent handling saved Jimmy a lot of troubles, particularly when handing over the people he caught to the FBI as a favor.

Arriving at Albuquerque, New Mexico, he was somewhat blind. At the time, lacking intelligence, lacking private weaponry, the post-operation handling entirely relied on Justin, who was far away in Little Rock, otherwise handling just those dozen corpses would have been impossible.

Later, with Tony from the CIA's help, eliminating Tim's dozen people in the wild was easily dealt with, this demonstrated Jimmy's shortcomings. Throughout, he managed affairs alone, too much was lacking; he needed a team, one capable of obtaining information, supporting logistics, even providing armed support or conducting divided operations.

His public FBI identity made obtaining such support difficult; only during cases can one receive bureau support, overly restrictive.

And his CIA identity actually hasn't been utilized. If back then he had used the CIA agent identity to obtain information from the CIA during the southward trips, maybe the Atz Gang would have been sorted out early on, instead of relying on his own tracking investigations, spending nearly two months completing that segment of the task.

This time in Washington, D.C., aside from acquiring Rick's address smoothly and taking out Rick, other intelligence was impossible to acquire on his own; identity was an issue, being Asian too conspicuous, not suitable for intelligence investigation work.

If he had support personnel, they could go directly to Greg's community to investigate his circumstances; even if unable to act at his house, acting en route after receiving intelligence would have worked, alas, he didn't even have that chance.

So maybe he couldn't continue being a lone wolf and should consider finding suitable people to form his team, at least complete intelligence support first.

Temporarily, Caitlin could collaborate, although restrictive, it's better than before when he hadn't activated his CIA identity. Whether the CIA side has suitable retired personnel available, the CIA's intelligence capabilities certainly surpass randomly hiring some outsiders.

(In the movie, the Continental Hotel administrative center had a blackboard with bounty rankings, second place two million, third place thirty-five thousand. Wick's initial bounty was just two million, so the reward set here should be lower, as not everyone is Wick, the notorious underworld assassin.

Lately, having several projects progressing concurrently at work, working during the day, writing at night, after a prolonged time, the brain felt insufficient, I'm trying to adjust, in the next one or two weeks, I should be able to finish half of the work projects. Previously mentioned there's no way to add more updates lately, that's due to overly busy work, sorry.)
