North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 686: 434 presenting a full set of dishes

Watson obviously wasn't right, and he was in a very bad mood. He just took a deep breath, nodded, and picked up the desk phone to call Kerry over.

Watson, "Kerry, look up this number, and give him the data."

Kerry nodded, gestured for Jimmy to leave Watson's office with him, and headed towards the command center.

On the way, Jimmy casually asked, "Kerry, what happened today?"

Kerry shook his head, "I can't say."

In the command center, the staff were still filling their seats; in fact, the Anti-Terrorism Bureau's command center operates 24 hours a day, with people working in shifts, so they didn't arrive at the command center to find nobody there to access the system for investigation.

Once the mobile number was handed to them, they quickly retrieved the corresponding call records and location information from the system. Jimmy looked at the phone's location displayed on the monitor and felt confused. He had assumed that the person Hughes was looking for would be in New York, which would make things more convenient, but the signal showed they were actually in Albany.

The phone number was unregistered, so they couldn't confirm the identity it corresponded to, but having obtained the call records and address, they had achieved their goal. Kerry arranged for someone to save the most recent call records on a USB drive for Jimmy. He thanked them and left, and he also asked Kerry to pass on his goodbye to Supervisor Watson.

Even though it was night, Jimmy didn't continue to wait. He drove straight to Hughes's house and handed the USB drive to him in the study.

Hughes, "What happened today? Have you been at the Anti-Terrorism Bureau all day?"

Jimmy, "Something I don't know what, went down at the Anti-Terrorism Bureau today. By the time I got there this morning, they had already dispatched everyone; Watson had left, leaving only Kerry and the people in the command center."

"Plus, something very strange happened—it seemed like the Anti-Terrorism Bureau was breached, something must have been taken, but no one told me exactly what went on. I waited in the meeting room all day, until Watson returned in the evening."

Hughes frowned, thought for a while, then shook his head, "There haven't been any special terrorist attacks today, no explosions, no mass shootings, the Anti-Terrorism Bureau shouldn't have such a reaction."

He picked up the USB drive and opened his computer, "Jimmy, wait for me outside for a while."

It seemed Hughes wanted to monopolize these call records. Jimmy shrugged, went into the living room, where Hughes's wife poured him a glass of ice water, and they sat on the sofa to chat and watch some dull TV shows.

Actually, this was Jimmy's first visit to Hughes's home. Having been in New York for over two years, this was the first time he had entered the boss's home, which could be considered a successful entry into his inner circle.

After listening to some of the call records, Hughes came out to beckon Jimmy into the study.

Hughes unplugged the USB drive from the computer, "Jimmy, now I will tell you something about the OPR investigation, the attack on you, and the matter of the mole."

Jimmy immediately sat up straight; his brain cells had truly been dying in droves recently. Since the attack, it would be an exaggeration to say they had been headless flies, but admittedly, they had scant information at the time and could only rely on their own guesses to continue their investigation. In the end, they mistook a gang-related attack for an explosion aftermath.

Hughes told Jimmy about what he knew, including the behind-the-scenes factors that Thomas had mentioned.

Hughes, "This time, the DC OPR team investigating the mole and his contact gave me a preliminary report that's very unreliable. Derek is an experienced old detective; it's impossible to bribe him just with a contact who knows nothing, but he has not identified who's really behind it all, only confessed to a contact person.

"However, the contact person, Peter Chambers, has been refusing to provide information, only offered an anonymous phone number, claiming he has no idea who's on the other end, which is a complete bluff. As a middleman, he wouldn't engage in such activities without fully understanding one party, so he's definitely lying.

"The biggest problem is with the DC OPR, their interrogation is definitely flawed, not ruling out the possibility that they also have a mole within. They're unreliable now."

Jimmy clasped his hands together, gradually applying pressure. It's still a lack of information sources—had he known these backstage stories earlier, why would they have wasted so many days? Although Hughes used qualifiers like "possibly" and "with a probability," the fact that he spoke about it indicated that he believed in his own speculative conclusions.

Hughes, "There are two more things, first, my contact Thomas has disappeared. I've had people look into it, but so far there's no clue, and it's feared that something has happened. His family has reported it to the police, but the police investigation has yielded no results.

"Second, the person who contacted Thomas to reach out to me was Josh, said to be from Senator Blair, but my people haven't found this person. We only got a mobile number from a private source, the same one you took to the Anti-Terrorism Bureau to investigate."

Jimmy, "I'm not very familiar with political figures; who is this Senator Blair?"

Hughes shook his head, "Senator Blair is a seasoned senator; this incident likely has nothing to do with him, you don't need to think about him.

"The key is to find that Josh. It's likely that Thomas was also deceived by him. When trusting me with handling the corpse, Josh arranged for someone to initiate the OPR investigation against you, and the subsequent attacks are probably also related to him, but there's still no clue linking them together."
