North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 678: Who is the person behind 431?

After all, there were more people on the opposite side; several handguns started firing and suppressed Mahong and Jimmy, who could only shoot back during the breaks. Compared to that, Jimmy's Glock provided somewhat better counter-suppression, and even though they both shot without aiming, Jimmy managed to injure a few people after completely emptying a magazine.

The few people who got injured now had absolutely no opportunity to escape; their position was near the corner of the restaurant without any back doors, and Mahong and Jimmy were completely blocking the direction of the main entrance. To leave, they'd need to take down Jimmy and Mahong first.

Jimmy pulled out his Python, locked onto several people with Heart Eye from behind the bar—they had only made simple barricades with tables and chairs to avoid being spotted by Jimmy and Mahong, but those tables and chairs couldn't stop bullets at all.

Once Jimmy confirmed the lock, he stood up and emptied the Python's magazine, fairly giving one shot per person. Most of them were shot in the chest, except for one unlucky guy who had dodged to an awkward spot, and took a bullet in his neck from Jimmy.

Jimmy crouched down to reload the Python's bullets and also changed the spare Glock magazine from his holster. Only then did he stand up to confirm that the opposition had completely lost their ability to resist and said, "Clear," as he raised his gun and approached Serra and the others.

Mahong also came over from the side; during the counterattack, he couldn't aim properly, so his gains were meager. Now seeing the situation on the ground, he finally grasped just how strong Jimmy was. In this type of short-range frontal clash, even when suppressed by multiple shooters, Jimmy managed to take down six gunmen in just over ten seconds. What had actually happened in those fights with even more adversaries listed in his file?

Mahong looked at the scene and took out his phone to call for backup; ambulances, forensic technicians, everyone needed to come to the scene.

As for the other people in the restaurant, they had all taken cover at the beginning of the gunfight. In fact, the only person who dared to shoot was the one who had first come out of the restaurant, and he had already been neutralized by Jimmy. After their firefight began, he had rolled back into the kitchen, avoiding the hail of bullets.

"Smooth work, Jimmy," Mahong said after contacting backup. He patted Jimmy, then walked over to Serra and the others, kicking the guns that had fallen to the ground to one side. Of the few people there, besides the two who were clearly dead, the remaining four were all seriously injured, either moaning or writhing, trying to press on their bullet wounds.

Jimmy: "These guys should be Azte's men; it looks like they were his second group. We'll need to check their guns later to see if they're from the same group that attacked me."

Mahong nodded: "Serra is still alive, it looks like this time we'll get even more."

Jimmy: "Yes, Trinidad's people are Azte's partners; most of their goods are distributed by Trinidad's people. This might even boost the performance for Ruiz's side—lucky for him, he gets the benefit without doing the work."

Mahong turned and walked to the restaurant entrance. Police sirens had sounded outside; NYPD patrol cars had arrived, and Mahong needed to communicate with them while also securing the scene to prevent unauthorized entry.

As for the NYPD patrol officers, they were unlucky. After being notified by the dispatch center to come, they had nothing to do but stand guard, having no presence at all.

If the FBI was working a case, especially a Senior Agent, it completely overshadowed the NYPD patrol officers, who could do nothing more than verify identities.

When backup agents arrived later, along with ambulances carrying the four injured away, the other two were declared dead by emergency medical personnel and would later be taken straight to the forensic office in another ambulance.

After three hours, Ruiz and his team finally arrived in Albany. Hughes had already located the position of the mole Derek's contact through the tech department, but when they got there, they encountered a big problem.

The contact's mobile signal was located inside a state government building, and since it was daytime with many people inside, they couldn't go in to search for the person. They had to keep waiting outside.

Ruiz arranged for two people to watch the back of the building to prevent any surprises. They all communicated with walkie-talkies, having taken away their cell phones back in New York. It was an information blackout period, and everyone knew this matter was extraordinary, so despite the inconvenience, no one complained, even if the atmosphere was a bit tense.

After waiting for two hours, the walkie-talkie finally buzzed with news that the contact had left through the back door and was walking towards the parking lot.

Ruiz and his team drove in from the front entrance to the parking lot, squeezing from both sides, before finally capturing the target.

"Peter Chambers, you are suspected of a bribery case involving a Federation agent. Come back with us," said the agents, wearing Bullet-Proof Vests and carrying Glocks. Chambers, looking at the scene, was baffled before he was handcuffed and pushed into the back seat of a sedan.

-----------------

By the time Ruiz and his team got back to the Manhattan office, it was nighttime. The information blackout was lifted. Except for those tasked with guarding Derek and the others, everyone else finally got some rest.

Ruiz first went to Hughes's office because there had been a lot of activity today. Hughes hadn't gone home and had already been informed about Jimmy and Mahong's operations; after Mahong returned, he had already talked with Hughes. They could now more or less confirm that all of Azte's eight men who came to New York had been captured, dead or wounded.
