North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 667: 426 Separate Investigations_3

Jimmy gave it some thought, Ruiz had always been working on gang cases, so involving him in this kind of mole incident seemed unnecessarily troublesome. Should he go straight to Hughes instead?

No, it wasn't confirmed yet whether there was a mole or not. Reaching out to Hughes right now seemed a bit too much, it'd be better to start with someone lower down.

Jimmy checked the time and went to the administrative department to find Tim Dunn.

Jimmy knocked on Dunn's door with a smile. Dunn looked up, surprised to see Jimmy, "Jimmy, how are you? I heard about yesterday's incident."

Jimmy shook his head, "I wasn't hurt, I managed to dodge it."

Dunn: "Sit, what brings you here?"

Jimmy turned, closed the door, and sat down opposite Dunn, "Dunn, I need a favor from you, but keep it between us for the time being."

Dunn frowned, something about Jimmy's words didn't sit well with him. After a moment's thought, he nodded, "Go ahead."

Jimmy: "Our office's vehicle registration system, who has access to it? I just got my license plate this weekend and registered it in the system yesterday morning. By the evening, I was being tailed by someone on a motorcycle."

Dunn narrowed his eyes, "Do you realize what you're suggesting? Jimmy, that's a serious allegation."

Jimmy pursed his lips, "I've already obtained surveillance footage of the motorcycle that tailed me. They picked up my trail one block away, very precise, they must have gotten hold of my license plate number. Aside from our agency, the only other place is the DMV."

Dunn stood up, went to the window, and pulled the curtain shut, blocking the view from outside.

Dunn: "You're suggesting there's a leak inside, Jimmy, this is serious. Think carefully, once an investigation starts, when it stops is not up for you and me to decide."

Jimmy leaned back in his chair, "I dodged four bullets, Tim. If I hadn't moved quickly, you wouldn't be seeing me right now, perhaps only my body."

Dunn: "This isn't a decision I can make. Jimmy, if you want to investigate, it might be best to report it through normal channels."

Jimmy: "But I still can't pinpoint the scope. Reporting it directly would have too much impact."

Dunn shook his head, "Everyone with entry-level access or higher in the administrative department can view the license plate information because they have to maintain the system. Concerning other departments, senior agents and above can request to see it. I understand your concern, but this scope is too broad. I can't help you narrow it down, so if you choose to continue the investigation, the best course of action would be to report it to higher-ups."

Jimmy took a deep breath and let it out, "Looks like I can't continue the investigation this way. I'll need to think it over. Thanks, Tim."

Dunn: "Don't mention it, Jimmy, I understand how you feel. By the way, you should change your car for now. At least the bulletproof door on the driver's side could make you a bit safer. As for the ram bar you wanted, let's hold off on that for the moment, until things settle down."

Jimmy nodded, "Alright, changing cars works for now, thanks."

Dunn picked up the phone and had a car key sent over. After receiving the key, Dunn gave Jimmy the license plate number. Once Jimmy transferred his gear over, he would hand over the keys to his old car.

Jimmy took the key and left the administrative office, headed back to his own. A line of inquiry had hit a dead end. He sat on the couch, tidied the teapot and cup, and brewed himself some tea to relax for a bit.

Now things were troublesome. Dunn was right, it was best to follow the proper protocols. He'd discuss it with Mahong when he returned, and if he agreed, then they'd only have the option to report to Hughes.
