North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 630: 410 Mysterious Shadows_3

Jimmy turned his car around on the road and headed back to the few single-unit houses he had just discovered; he needed to first confirm whether the fugitive, Riley, had passed by here, or whether he had entered any of these houses.

Jimmy simply walked past the houses, and if no one was inside he would move on, and if someone was, he would stop and ask. He carried Riley's file with a photograph on him, but it seemed that the residents hadn't spotted this person today.

After checking several houses, Jimmy returned to the road, ready to leave for the investigation at the large factory ahead when his phone rang. Answering the call, it was an officer from the Newburgh police station.

"Detective Yang? This is Jack from the Newburgh police station. The body found in the forest has been urgently examined. The forensic doctor hasn't completed the entire autopsy yet, but we need to inform you about the findings so far."

Jimmy, "Did you contact Detective Mahong?"

"I did. He gave me your number."

Jimmy, "OK, go ahead."

"Due to the lower temperature, the body is relatively well preserved. However, the time of death is at least a week ago. So far, no wounds have been found on the body's surface. The internal organs have started to decay, so it's impossible to determine the specific cause of death at this moment, but we can almost rule out homicide."

Jimmy, "Is that all?"

"Yes, based on our current assessment, this lead should not be related to the case you are investigating."

Jimmy, "Have you figured out his background?"

"We have ascertained that, yes. His family isn't here. He owns a house in a nearby town, and police have been dispatched to investigate his home. His car has been found parked near a house close to the cabin, and it has not been driven away by the fugitive."

Jimmy, "Understood, thank you."

"You're welcome. Goodbye."

Jimmy hung up the phone and sighed. They still had to comb through the forest to look for the person. In fact, when the K9 unit dashed straight into the forest earlier, they had already roughly determined that Riley must have fled on foot.

Jimmy arrived at the factory and, after showing his credentials to security, asked around. With the security supervisor's permission, he examined the factory perimeter surveillance footage, but to no avail. The factory's surveillance covered the facility's grounds, and upon fast-forwarding through the footage from last night until now, there was absolutely no sign of the fugitive Riley being inside the factory.

"Do you have external surveillance?" Jimmy asked the security supervisor.

Security Supervisor, "There's only the monitor at the main entrance, which can only cover the area at the entrance."

Jimmy, "Let's play it back."

The Security Supervisor was so cooperative largely because Jimmy had shown him Riley's file—though just a glance at the photo—because the fugitive was a murderer, there wasn't much resistance in checking a monitor.

Soon, Jimmy made a new discovery. Around 6:30 in the morning, a person in a down jacket, holding a flashlight, walked past the front of the factory. This person wore a hat, a down jacket, jeans, and sneakers. It wasn't possible to see the face clearly or to identify the build because of the angle of the camera, which was positioned mainly to monitor the vehicles and their license plates entering and exiting the factory.

Jimmy, "Can you print a photo here?"

Security Supervisor, "You'd need to go to the factory office. Maybe someone there can handle it."

Jimmy nodded, "Please, take care of it as soon as possible."

The Security Supervisor took out the tape and headed toward another building in the factory area while Jimmy waited in the monitoring room, taking out his phone to call Mahong, "Mahong, I found a person walking alone around 6:30 AM on the surveillance of a factory here. I couldn't see the face, but I suspect it's the fugitive, Riley."

Mahong, "OK, track him. I'll leave it to you."

Jimmy, "Understood. How's the progress on your end?"

Mahong, "We've arrived at the ATM and started investigating nearby. We have police assistance here."

Jimmy, "Good. I'll contact you if I find any new leads."
