North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 552: 380 Autopsy Results

Jimmy had the prison guard replay the footage again, this time speeding up only a portion of it; the rest needed to be closely watched, especially the part where inmates reported someone screaming in the middle of the night yesterday. Unfortunately, they still saw nothing.

Jimmy couldn't discern anything from the surveillance video, so he could only return to the cell to inspect it again. However, there were very few items in the cell, no real corners to speak of, and indeed, they found nothing extra.

After confirming that places like the walls and the toilet were secure and nothing was out of the ordinary, Jimmy reminded the prison guards not to touch those two cells and to protect the scene, waiting for a later examination that would include checking all clues such as fingerprints. He then had the guards make him a copy of the video, which he took with him back to the office.

Jimmy went straight to Hughes with the recording, gave him a brief on the recent capture of Dave, interrogation records, and laboratory report contents, before finally updating him on the deaths of two individuals at the detention center this morning.

Hughes listened to Jimmy's narration without a word. This case had been moving very quickly in the past few days; it seemed Jimmy had indeed been working hard. Based on the evidence already obtained, it wouldn't be a big problem to close the case forcefully, but the sudden death of the suspect also caught him by surprise.

Hughes, "Go to the forensic office. I'll give them a call to prioritize processing these two bodies, and get me the cause of death as soon as possible."

Jimmy nodded and turned to leave immediately. With an incident like this occurring on top of Dave's house being turned upside down yesterday, it was impossible to believe there wouldn't be more surprises ahead. The surveillance showed nothing; now everything depended on the autopsy.

Hughes had considerable influence; by the time Jimmy reached the scene, two forensic doctors were already examining the two bodies in tandem, and Jimmy was arranged to wait in the office.

Soon, both forensic doctors had cleaned up and returned to the office, "FBI Special Agent Jimmy Yang, do we have results now?"

Yes, an older forensic doctor nodded, "We've confirmed that body number two died of fright; his facial expression was grotesque, bleeding occurred in the heart, and myocardial fibers were torn. From what we can tell right now, he likely died from sudden fright, a surge in adrenaline, accelerated blood circulation, and a resulting heart attack leading to his death."

Jimmy nodded, understanding that inmate number two was the one in the cell next to Dave. He continued to inquire, "What about number one?"

The older forensic doctor, "Number one is a bit harder to determine. There are no external injuries; the wounds from two gunshots wounds appear normal, with stitches unruptured. At first glance, he seems to have died from asphyxiation, with minor contusions and swelling visible, as well as petechiae in the gum area, and subserosal bleeding in the internal organs, a trend towards pulmonary edema.

But I have found some abnormal conditions, including damage to internal organs such as the heart, the source of the damage is currently unclear because there are no wounds on his body surface, and no bruising from hitting or other means. I need to contact others to confirm if they have seen such conditions before."

Jimmy frowned; something was off with Dave, "Number one was normal before, I interrogated him yesterday during the day, and his lawyer was present, no issues had arisen."

The older forensic doctor, "That's what's unusual. Normally, this kind of damage is caused by heavy blows or impact, but there's nothing abnormal on the surface or in the subcutaneous tissue of his body. I can't issue his autopsy report just yet, I need to investigate further."

Jimmy, "How long would that take?"

The older forensic doctor, "A day or two, maybe. I can't be certain yet; this is the first time I've seen a body like this."

Jimmy nodded, "Thank you. Please notify me of any conclusions," he left his FBI business card with the older forensic doctor and departed.

Jimmy returned to his car, but instead of starting it, he sat there thinking about the case. Unlike others, Jimmy was aware of certain supernatural occurrences. Supernatural events were very rare in this world, most people would never encounter one in their lifetime, but this case was indeed very strange. Nothing was caught on surveillance, and to scare an inmate to death was certainly more difficult than scaring an ordinary person.

Under such circumstances, if it were a person who had entered the detention center and done these things, it seems quite unlikely, considering the many surveillance cameras and prison guards one would have to bypass, which would be too troublesome.

If it were a supernatural event, then the current situation could be explained. Suffocation with no external injuries, internal bodily harm with no external manifestation—no one here knows what kind of damage an Evil Spirit can inflict, naturally making it impossible to determine.

If there were an expert here, things would be better, but Jimmy was only an amateur at best.

Jimmy took out his phone to look through it but found no contact number for Priest Horton, so he had no choice but to call Lambert, the supervisor at the Dallas office.

Lambert, "Oh, Jimmy, it's been a while since you've called me. How is it going? Coming over to my side?"

Jimmy, "Good morning, Supervisor Lambert. I'll definitely drop by Dallas when I have the chance. But this time, I'm calling to ask for your help."

Lambert, "What do you need?"

Jimmy, "There's a case here that's a bit tricky. I need your help to contact Priest Horton; I'd like to consult with him."

Lambert, "What kind of case?"

Jimmy, "Two people suddenly died at the detention center early this morning. There's nothing abnormal on the surveillance, but one of them was scared to death. Literally, frightened to death."
