Chapter 464: 347 Let Yourself Go

Hughes: "The second video at the television station was submitted by deputy editor-in-chief Allen Tudyk. I had someone ask him about it, but his source has always been confidential. The two videos gave them very high ratings, so they flatly refused our request. We can't drag this out any longer."

I'll urge Dave to act, telling him to make contact as soon as possible and stop broadcasting those two videos.

Ruiz, go investigate this Allen. I don't care by what means, but you must clarify his recent movements. Find out who he met, who gave him the information, check all his phone records, everything."

Ruiz, upon receiving Hughes' directive, said nothing, merely nodded, buttoned up his jacket, and left the conference room.

Jimmy watched Hughes, who remained silent for a while, before he finally spoke: "Jimmy, you need not get involved in this side of the investigation. Go coordinate with Gordon and his team, and resolve the bomb case as soon as possible. It's been over a week, and this case can't be delayed any longer. At all costs, find the bomb they've prepared and make sure it doesn't go off. Do you understand?"

Jimmy's eyes widened. "Hughes, have you lost your mind? Do you know what you're saying?"

Jimmy took a deep breath: "At all costs?"

Hughes waved his hand dismissively, "Go on." Then he left the conference room and returned to his adjacent office.

Not having seen him for a day, something must have agitated Hughes; this was definitely not normal for him. Today alone, he had used the phrase "at all costs" twice, whether regarding the deputy editor or the bomb case. Could it be that he was reprimanded by the higher-ups? Or was it Allen's refusal that provoked him? For the sake of pride? Unlikely.

Jimmy sat for a while, then got up and went to the conference room previously used by Gordon. Scott had already left, leaving him alone; it seemed Scott had returned specifically for this inquiry and surely would stick with the surveillance team otherwise.

Jimmy: "Gordon, how are things now?"

Gordon looked up at Jimmy: "The Anti-Terrorism Bureau has identified several potential suspects, and Scott's team, along with the surveillance group, has gone to investigate. Now we're just waiting for their report."

Jimmy: "Have you pinpointed the suspects? Who met with journalist Ash?"

Gordon shook his head: "Not definitively yet. We've just found a person who showed up at several scenes after tracing an unregistered phone's location. One of them should be our target, but we need to continue the investigation to determine who it is."

Jimmy: "So what do I need to do? I can't get involved with the stuff here at the office at the moment."

Gordon: "Then head over to the Anti-Terrorism Bureau. Act as a liaison and notify me as soon as there's an update."

Shit, Jimmy thought of the Anti-Terrorism Bureau and felt a headache coming on, but there was no helping it. He nodded: "Okay, I'll head there now, and if they have any new leads, I'll let you know."

Jimmy turned back to his office to check on things, even though there was nothing pressing; it never hurt to check. After that, he left the bureau and drove towards the Anti-Terrorism Bureau.

If Tom had been in New York, he probably would have looked for Jimmy by now. Hadn't they said to keep him away from the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, yet he kept going back? He was really asking to be noticed.

Jimmy drove very carefully this time, having realized his mind and body weren't coordinating well the day before. Now, driving seemed slightly uncoordinated when reacting to situations. Driving slowly and steadily on the road was the best approach, albeit slower, but much safer.

Upon arriving at the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, Jimmy showed his credentials and successfully entered the conference room they had used before. It looked like the bureau had assigned it to them, as no one else was using the room.

Jimmy looked around, then went upstairs to the command center.

Noah Watson was in the command center. Jimmy watched from behind as they investigated something that didn't seem to be the bombing case he and his team were on, but another matter. Looking at the photos, their target appeared to be from the Middle East as well; the white cap was quite noticeable.

A small window looked like a live surveillance video – it seemed to be of a Mosque. The dome looked familiar, the camera was opposite the Mosque at a high angle – had the Anti-Terrorism Bureau installed it on purpose? The Mosque seemed crowded, but most seemed like tourists. New York truly is an international city – was this Mosque a tourist attraction?

Jimmy didn't speak, just looked on. Noah seemed to notice someone and turned to see: "Oh, Jimmy, it looks like your issue has been resolved."

Jimmy wasn't surprised; after all, it had been in the news, so it was normal for the Anti-Terrorism Bureau to be informed. "Yeah, roughly speaking, the higher-ups will handle it. But for now, I can move around freely."

Noah: "Right, the leads for your case have been given to Gordon. You can consult with him."

Jimmy looked at Noah, surprised. It seemed like he was being dismissed. Apparently, the case on the monitors wasn't related to the FBI. "Right, I've already gotten in touch with Gordon. I'm here as a liaison now, if there are any new leads, I'll be downstairs in the conference room. Goodbye, Mr. Watson."

Jimmy left the command center and went back to the conference room to wait. This wasn't the FBI office, and he hadn't brought anything with him, so he picked up a newspaper to pass the time. But he wasn't completely idle. As he read, he suddenly realized something – the unregistered phone had been switched off, but that didn't mean it would never turn on again. The Anti-Terrorism Bureau was dealing with their own case, and naturally, they would no longer pay attention to the bombing case. This could indeed be something they had overlooked before.
