Jimmy turned his head to continue observing the Black Rainbow. After it formed an ellipse, it seemed to sever Jimmy's connection with the outside world. The sound of car horns, which he could still hear before, disappeared instantly, but it didn't seem to affect Jimmy much. He stretched his legs, preparing to stand up, when suddenly, as if he had lost consciousness, Jimmy didn't get up. Instead, his upper body fell backward onto the carpet.
-----------------
Jimmy didn't open his eyes, but first used Heart Eye Observation to check his surroundings. Only after confirming there were no issues did he open his eyes. He was still lying on the carpet, reached out his hands to sit up, and noticed that the Black Rainbow on the chair had turned into pieces, some of which had already fallen onto the carpet. The black ellipse that had surrounded him had disappeared, and there seemed to be no changes in the living room.
He stood up, took his cellphone from the coffee table, saw several missed calls, but of course, the key thing was the time. When Jimmy had smashed the Black Crystal, it was just after 9 AM, and now it was already 4 PM. Fortunately, the time he had been unconscious wasn't especially long.
Jimmy checked the missed calls: one from Hughes, one from Ruiz, and surprisingly, one from Peter. There was nothing else significant, just three different numbers, but they were not in Jimmy's contact list, so he didn't know who they were.
Jimmy first returned Hughes's call, which had come around noon—just a few hours ago. Fortunately, there was no big issue.
Jimmy, "Hughes, is there something wrong? Sorry, I overslept."
Hughes, "Come to the station tomorrow morning, prepare for a hearing about the first video." He then hung up; okay, it seemed like Hughes was a bit annoyed Jimmy hadn't answered his call.
Ruiz also merely informed Jimmy since Hughes hadn't gotten through, so Ruiz notified him again in the afternoon.
Peter's call was quite unexpected. He reacted only after seeing the video on TV. Others might not know, but he was aware of Jimmy's combat ability. The fast and precise marksmanship in the video, along with the perpetrator being of Asian descent, naturally made him first think of Jimmy. Peter could recognize it was an Asian because he was too familiar with Jimmy; after working together for two or three months, they were certainly not strangers, he could tell by the outline and movements it was Jimmy.
After a brief chat, Jimmy hung up the phone. He couldn't say much about it now. Since Hughes had notified him about the hearing the next day, there must have been some development today; he hoped it would be good news.
Jimmy placed the phone on the coffee table, stood up, and went to the bathroom. After walking a couple of steps, he suddenly felt something was wrong. Jimmy raised his hands in front of him, and moved his fingers on both hands, which seemed quite normal. He then put his hands down and slowly walked towards the bathroom. It was while walking that he realized the issue—it seemed his actions couldn't keep up with his brain.
The amplitude of his hands swinging and the distance his feet moved could be distinctly felt, but it felt like there was some sort of delay, as if a transmission device in a machine was malfunctioning. His brain had already made many calculations, but his body seemed unable to keep up with the commands from his brain.
Looking at the mirror above the washbasin, Jimmy observed himself—his eyes seemed normal, and there was nothing unusual about his face. Lifting his leg and stretching his hand felt normal, but what was this sour sensation?
After using the restroom, Jimmy went to the study, pulled out the bullets from his revolver, and then habitually practiced loading it; unexpectedly, the bullets fell to the floor.
There was a big issue with his body; he was very skilled at loading his revolver, having practiced a long time since he had learned it from Roland, and it had been a long time since he had made any errors.
Now, he clearly knew how to operate, but his left hand's movements were a bit slow, not syncing with the right hand's frequency of rotating the bullet cylinder, causing the speed at which the bullets were placed to not keep up with the cylinder's rotation, bumping the bullets against the cylinder and falling onto the floor.
Jimmy bent down to pick up the bullets and placed them on a table. He returned to the living room, gathered all the pieces of the Black Rainbow and put them in an iron box, then did some stretching exercises to warm up, pulling out the rowing machine from the corner of the room to let his body acclimate.
While pulling the rowing machine, he pondered what was going on?
Jack had said, merging with the rainbow had been extremely painful for Roland, yet he had felt absolutely no pain, merely being unconscious for a few hours with no sensation of pain.
As one of the Thirteen Rainbows of Roland's world, the Black Rainbow was extremely precious, and Roland had personally tested its effectiveness. Thus, Jimmy must have been enhanced, but now it felt as if he had been weakened? There seemed to be some issues with his body coordination.
After moving for twenty minutes, Jimmy stopped, took a moment to stabilize, then began doing push-ups, sit-ups, leg stretches, and rotations. His body seemed quite normal; these activities could be performed normally, and it felt no different from before.
Hungry from skipping lunch and from the activity, Jimmy opened the fridge to grab some food to prepare a meal. As he picked up the kitchen knife, he suddenly decided to test something. He took a celery stick, concentrated, and began slicing it thinly. The chopping sounds came from the cutting board, and Jimmy paused, inspecting his work.
Each slice of celery was incredibly thin, better and more evenly cut than before, as if he had precisely controlled the spacing intervals of his right hand while cutting. This was not a knife skill he had developed from cooking frequently, but rather it seemed his ability for precise control had somehow strengthened.
