North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 457: Who is targeting Jimmy?_2

Jimmy: "Wait a moment, I have some on the report of this gunfight because of handling the bombing case, I haven't submitted it yet."

Hughes: "We'll talk about the report later, first tell me the situation."

Jimmy paused, glanced at Ruiz, who shook his head so subtly, it was nearly missed.

Jimmy: "Here's what happened. A few days ago, we captured the man who murdered the journalist Ashi. His name is Abdul, a Middle Easterner, a member of the Iraq branch of Al-Qaeda. He was arranged to enter New York with a false identity and has been living in that warehouse."

We identified a vehicle from the parking lot footage that could have been involved in murdering Ashi and ultimately confirmed its route through traffic surveillance videos. Chris and I arrived at the scene to investigate when Abdul suddenly drove off during Chris's questioning, but we later caught him.

We dismantled a bomb from under his car, and afterwards, a team led by Agent Gordon from headquarters took over the bomb case and through interrogation discovered the location of Abdul's warehouse—the one on the left in the video.

Scott and the forensics team were inspecting evidence in Abdul's warehouse while I stayed outside to prevent any mishaps. Later, the six individuals in the video arrived in three cars, parked, and entered the warehouse on the video. I recognized tattoos on two of them indicating they were with the T14 gang, so I contacted Ruiz.

Afterward, I went to have a chat with them to see if they had any clues about the neighboring warehouse where Abdul was, and then what you see in the video happened.

Jimmy: "I want to state the first two individuals who were knocked down didn't shoot or get shot; they were just taken down. The remaining four were shot in the torso and were not killed. The news saying four people were killed is purely malicious and misleading."

Ruiz spoke up: "Yes, I can testify to that. After the incident in the video, I arrived at the scene, NYPD, and ambulances were already present, and all four were taken to the hospital for treatment. Currently, no one has died."

Hughes: "Why did you go to talk to them? I want the truth, don't try to fool us with these explanations."

Jimmy raised his right hand, showing three fingers: "Three reasons. First, Abdul's warehouse is next to theirs, and he had rented it for several months, usually living inside. The T14 gang's warehouse is next door; there might be relevant clues.

Second, the drug trafficking case involving T14 is something Ruiz has been following for months. We previously raided their dock warehouse, but they had been tipped off by an informant and moved all their goods; the warehouse was empty. I was also involved in that case. Discovering their warehouse now, I communicated with Ruiz about it.

Third, it would take Ruiz a little time to get there, and I just wanted to delay their progress as long as possible to prevent them from leaving too early, making it easier for Ruiz to observe this warehouse to see if it was the drug storage we were looking for. In the end, indeed, many goods were found inside, which Ruiz can explain."

About this, Jimmy had already considered beforehand. If an inquiry was called, his answer would be the same, probably good enough to suffice. The reasons weren't particularly strong, but things had happened too quickly; he could only try to protect himself as much as possible.

Fuller from the OPR then spoke: "What's the situation with the bombing case?"

Jimmy glanced at Fuller, then looked at Hughes, "May I speak?"

Hughes didn't say anything but shook his head after a few seconds of silence, looking at Fuller: "The bombing case is currently being handled by a special task force from headquarters. It's potentially very serious. NSA and the Anti-Terrorism Bureau have been contacted to cooperate in the investigation, so this case is still in a confidential phase, not to be disclosed publicly, and knowledge is limited to the investigative team."

Fuller's eyes widened as he first looked at Hughes and then turned to look at Jimmy. He hadn't expected this newly confirmed detective to have grown to the extent that he could be involved in such highly classified cases.

Turning his head, Fuller looked at Hughes: "I don't need the details, I just need an explanation that can be presented publicly. Since it's hit the news, we need to have a response. I think Patrick would agree." He gestured towards the last middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man nodded and added: "Like Ruiz said, the NYPD are involved in the follow-up. Although the case is ours, they are bound to know something as well. This issue will ultimately need to be communicated with the outside. Before the situation escalates, we might need to hold a press conference."

Hughes looked at Jimmy: "This is Patrick Boliqi from Public Affairs, also our office spokesman. Patrick, you mentioned the situation escalating?"

Patrick nodded: "After the video circulated, there has already been some public outcry. Many people find the daytime shooting of four individuals unbelievable and are concerned about community safety. Moreover, due to the video's clarity issue, Jimmy appears to be white, while those individuals appear to be Latin American or African American. We've discussed this internally, and there's a potential for the video to incite unrest."

Ruiz: "Have you contacted the TV station? Where did they get the video? I checked with the warehouse company at the time, and there is no surveillance inside their warehouses, only at the entrances and exits."
