North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 423: 331 supports the field office_2

New York's traffic was really a bit terrible. In broad daylight, and not even during rush hours, the vehicle count hardly lessened. The silver car weaved through the traffic left and right, completely unconcerned about whether it scratched other vehicles or caused accidents. Ultimately, it succeeded in disrupting the flow of traffic on the road, successfully holding back the trailing police cars. Thankfully, there was an NYPD helicopter in the sky, guiding other ground units to intercept and track the car ahead, preventing its successful escape.

After making a few turns at various intersections, the silver car, now cornered and suffering, ended up going the wrong way and causing a head-on collision. The two people in the car opened the doors, stumbled out, and rushed into an apartment building nearby.

This was a nightmare scenario in a city chase: armed fugitives had entered a residential building, bringing with them a high potential for danger. The ground NYPD vehicles immediately surrounded the apartment building, arranging for officers to encircle it from the back to prevent the fugitives from escaping through the rear.

From aboard the FBI helicopter, Ryan began to notify the support squad to come over. As for them, they needed to find a suitable place to disembark from the helicopter. The road was wide enough, but descending the helicopter between buildings was too dangerous; they had to find a suitable rooftop to land on or perform a rappel.

After circling the area, they didn't spot any tall buildings with a marked "H" helipad. Out of necessity, Ryan and his team had to choose to rappel down to a rooftop. Fortunately, Jimmy was no stranger to climbing ropes, whether it was scaling up or down. The only difference was that previously, he would be climbing buildings, but now, a helicopter hovered overhead. Everything went smoothly, and Jimmy safely reached the top of the building. When the rest of the team arrived, they all came down from the roof and jogged over to the apartment building where the fugitives had entered.

The on-site NYPD had already secured the area. The ESU and FBI support squads were on the way. When Jimmy and his team arrived, they didn't rush in but communicated with the police to assess the situation. They had lost sight of the suspects for a good ten minutes, so they definitely couldn't just barge in.

Jimmy didn't concern himself with the communication happening around him; he was already looking up, observing the situation inside the apartments.

It was almost certain that the fugitives weren't on the first or second floors. Now, many people near the windows were looking outside, curious about the commotion – gawking was human nature, the same everywhere. The third floor seemed off; in one apartment, two people were moving around the living room, occasionally nearing the windows. In another apartment, two people were tidying the room, but it didn't seem like they were just cleaning.

The view became obstructed past that point, but if only based on observation, those two apartments on the third floor were certainly the real targets.

Jimmy, "Ryan, first check the residents on the first and second floors, and have them temporarily leave their rooms. We'll clean up floor by floor, if the fugitives are indeed inside, the threat to the residents is too great. Confirming their location as soon as possible will also allow the other residents to evacuate early and avoid danger."

Ryan came over to Jimmy's side, also looking up at the apartments, "Are you confident?"

Jimmy, "Two people, still holding handguns. As long as we're careful, our danger isn't too high. Let's first get a few shields from the NYPD."

Ryan patted Jimmy, then turned and walked towards the NYPD. This was the benefit of having worked together before; Ryan knew Jimmy's capabilities. Before the support squad arrived, this was the best option apart from waiting. Anyway, Jimmy would act, Ryan would decide, and Ryan would also handle the reporting. As long as no irreparable mistake occurred that resulted in resident injury, anything else could be remedied afterwards.

Ryan was decisive, too, knowing that agreeing with Jimmy's approach and starting the operation was against internal regulations. For a situation where residents could be hostages, the principle was to involve SWAT or even directly call HRT. However, special agents sometimes had the right to make decisions on the scene and didn't necessarily have to follow regulations, but later they would inevitably face inquiry and investigation.

The NYPD squad cars had several bullet-proof shields, given that the gunmen only had handguns – unless they were fortunate enough to find rifles in a room – the protective performance of the shields was assured.

Ryan didn't stay outside to command; he took the front, shield in hand, with Jimmy behind him. Following were four agents, with the last two also carrying shields, covering their backs. Thus, this six-person team, without heavy firepower support, began entering the apartment to inspect the rooms on the first floor.

The team was all wearing bullet-proof vests marked with "FBI". Those with shields carried handguns in one hand, the third agent also held a shotgun, and the fourth team member had an M16 rifle. With this setup, unless the two fugitives inside had the luck of a hero in a story, they were almost certain to be overpowered.

Knock on the door, announce their identity, request to inspect the room, arrange for the residents to evacuate the building – all in one breath. The first floor's rooms were cleared quickly. The residents weren't fools; faced with such a large scale operation, it wasn't something they could just refuse and be done with it. Facing the threat of armed fugitives entering the apartment, they too felt uneasy. Just a room check, no problem, please proceed.

Jimmy and his team then changed direction, heading to the second floor while calling for police outside to guard the first-floor staircase to avoid any mishaps.

The second-floor clearance was also smooth. Jimmy kept an eye on the upper floors as they moved. The people on the third floor had heard the shouting during the second floor's room clearance, and the individuals in those two apartments seemed very anxious. They were pacing in the rooms and occasionally came to the door to look out.
