Jimmy watched as Nia left the meeting room and said to Chuck, "Detective Chuck, this case might still need to be handled separately. The anonymous call you guys filtered out just now may not be related to Diego's death, but it's probably connected to what was found in his house. If we later confirm that the shooter was one of his surgery clients, then this lead about the stuff found in his house might have to be handed over to the DEA."
Chuck was noncommittal; the evidence had already been brought back to the station. The police had the authority to handle drug dealers on their own, it was just a matter of spending some manpower to identify who was picking up the goods. This achievement, however, giving it up straight to the DEA, would feel a bit painful. Achievements were one thing, but the involved evidence and seized items often became one source of their office's operating funds. (This point won't be elaborated on, as each police station has its little treasury.)
Jimmy had also been a county police officer and had handled big cases before. At least that time they raided the marijuana farm helped them get by quite comfortably for a while, so he understood Chuck's sentiment. Jimmy didn't bring up the case again, but changed the subject.
Jimmy said, "Speaking of which, Chuck, how much longer until Nia's assessment?" Nia was wearing a black NYPD uniform while she was handling the files just now, indicating she hadn't yet taken the exam.
Chuck curled his lip and glanced sideways at Jimmy, "You're quite candid, aren't you? Why, got an idea?"
Jimmy shrugged, "I'm single and not married, is there a problem?"
Chuck, "Dating is fine, but if you're thinking of going further, forget about it."
Jimmy, "Why?"
Chuck waved his hand, "Don't ask so many questions, I'm looking out for you. You won't be able to handle her family."
Jimmy blinked. What did that matter? He had never investigated Nia's information before. Even though he had the authority, it seemed too overboard to check the FBI database just for a girl.
Just as he planned to chat more, Jimmy's phone rang. He glanced at the screen and quickly answered the call.
Jimmy, "Hughes, what's happened?"
Hughes, "Jimmy, head to the Queens field office immediately and find Agent Ryan Phillips. There's been a shooting there, an agent's been shot. Go check the situation out and see if we need to mobilize more people for support."
Jimmy, "I'm on my way."
After ending the call, Jimmy told Chuck, "There's something up at the station, I'm heading out. Goodbye, Chuck."
Jimmy swiftly left the station and drove to the Queens office.
"Manhattan office Detective Jimmy, where's Agent Ryan Phillips? Take me to him." As soon as Jimmy entered the field office building, he immediately flashed his badge at reception and asked.
The receptionist took Jimmy to the third floor, where Ryan was in a meeting with other detectives. Jimmy directly opened the meeting room door and stood at the back without interrupting their discussion.
Two detectives had been ambushed in a room while investigating a case. Both were shot, and the suspects, two in number, fled the scene in a black sedan. The detectives had contacted the office, and NYPD was informed to pursue the vehicle. The field office's intelligence team had also departed, and the meeting was to arrange tasks. As soon as the helicopter from the outside arrived, they would immediately take off to intercept them, and the support team had already been notified to come by helicopter after the location was confirmed.
After assigning tasks, Ryan let the others prepare and came to the back of the meeting room to shake hands with Jimmy, "Jimmy, didn't expect it to be you who came. Is everything set up with Hughes?"
Jimmy nodded, "Ryan, how are the shot detectives doing? Hughes sent me to find out if we need to send another team from Manhattan?"
Ryan, "They've been taken to the hospital for emergency care, it's not too serious, but looks like they'll need a long rest afterward. I've already requested more agents from other teams, and we should have enough people here now. We're about to leave. You want to come along?"
Jimmy, "Of course, I came to support you guys."
Ryan, "OK, join me on the rooftop helipad later."
-----------------
Downstairs, Jimmy took the bullet-proof vest and M16 from his car and followed Ryan to the top floor. From a distance, two helicopters approached. While waiting, Jimmy called Hughes back to report the current situation, confirming that no additional support was needed for the time being.
Jimmy and Ryan boarded the first helicopter. After takeoff, the second helicopter landed to pick up others and turned to head towards the direction of the fugitive sedan.
The headsets relayed the position updates from the tracking intelligence team below; the suspects were still headed towards the Bronx District. The helicopters moved in a straight line faster than the ground pursuit. Within minutes, they spotted a madly fleeing car on the road. However, there was a discrepancy. During the briefing, Ryan mentioned a black sedan, so why was there a silver-white sedan below?
Ryan communicated with the intelligence personnel below and discovered that after driving off, due to heavy traffic, the suspects had crashed at an intersection and then hijacked a silver-white car to continue fleeing. The car in pursuit on the ground now had its side scraped against other vehicles, with the rear bumper hanging off partially.
NYPD had already positioned patrol cars to follow, and others set up to intercept. The hope was to stop them quickly. With armed robbery, reckless driving, accidents, and the increased threat to civilians, it was no longer just a matter of following at a distance.
