North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 379: 314 Langley_3

Unfortunately, Jimmy's leisure time was short-lived. Just after finishing his coffee, he heard the fire alarm go off.

People from various offices began to leave, and Jimmy followed the crowd outside. Had something happened at Frank's? Otherwise, why would there be a sudden fire alarm?

With the scene in chaos, Jimmy couldn't do anything too unconventional; he could only follow the flow of people and leave the building through the main entrance on the first floor. The Langley building was an enormous structure, and the fire alarm was only for this section, so there weren't many people downstairs. Jimmy stood on the outskirts of the crowd, peering towards the building's exit. If something had happened to Frank, he would likely take advantage of the current confusion to leave the building, too.

Jimmy looked around and suddenly noticed something off about an ambulance: wasn't the old driver Marvin? There was another person sitting behind Marvin in the vehicle – that should be fine. Jimmy glanced around; nobody was watching him. He moved in front of the ambulance, nodded at Marvin, and opened the door to get in.

Seeing the situation inside the vehicle, Jimmy's expression changed. Marvin seemed to have taken a punch to the face, with cotton stuffed in his nose, and a very familiar-looking elderly black man was pointing a gun at Marvin. The old man was indeed very old, with age spots prominently and abundantly marked across his face. "Marvin, what's going on?"

The black man, still pointing the gun at Marvin, said to Jimmy, "You, sit in the back."

Jimmy moved slowly, inching closer, and after getting a bit closer, he lunged forward, extending his right hand while pushing forcefully with his feet. His right hand pushed on the gun-wielding arm of the black man, moving the gun to the side as it bumped into the vehicle's interior – the gun dropped to the floor. Jimmy grabbed the black man's other arm with his left hand. Once his right hand retracted, he twisted both hands forcefully behind the black man.

The black man was too old to keep up with a young man like Jimmy, and after the gun fell to the floor, he gave up resisting.

Jimmy pulled the black man towards the back of the ambulance and then slowly backed away to pick up the gun. "Who are you?"

The black man didn't respond to Jimmy's question but looked at Marvin: "Who is he?"

Marvin: "A friend of Frank's."

The black man nodded, sat down on the bench, and remained silent. Jimmy observed the situation. Clearly, the two knew each other, so why had he been pointing a gun at Marvin just a moment ago? Now wasn't the time for interrogation. Holding the gun, Jimmy watched as Sara, aiding Frank disguised as a firefighter, approached the ambulance. He opened the door to let them in.

Frank entered the vehicle and showed a surprised look, "You're really something, Joe."

Sara suddenly realized, "Joe? The Joe who's supposed to be dead?"

The black man glanced at Sara and then at Frank: "Is she with us?"

Frank: "Yeah!"

Joe looked at Sara: "Not dead, just retired." Then Joe looked at Jimmy, "And this young fellow?"

Frank: "A friend, with us."

Jimmy suddenly interjected, "Joe Matthewson? I just handled a case where Joe Matthewson was shot dead in New York."

Joe: "That was me, just my name, that is."

Jimmy was somewhat confused. He had checked the system for the list Frank had provided, picking the oldest people with the same name, most of whom were recorded dead, with only three alive. Now, it looked like just in this ambulance, there were three alive – neither Marvin nor Joe was dead. Could the others on the list be faking their deaths too?

And should he continue investigating the case of Joe Matthewson in New York?

It was still too crowded here. He'd confirm with Frank once there were fewer people.

Marvin couldn't stand it any longer and said, "Can we go now?" "Yeah."

Marvin started the ambulance and left the Langley building. Joe pulled open Frank's shirt and saw, "You've been shot?" While the vehicle was moving, Joe tried to stop Frank's bleeding, but the blood continued to flow.

Joe: "You're still bleeding; there must be a bullet inside. We need to find someone to treat it."

Frank leaned against the side of the vehicle and sighed, "Go to Eagle's Nest."

Marvin grumbled, "Then we'll all get shot."

Frank looked reluctant, "I'll go in alone."
