North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 633: Altar

Jimmy drove behind Priest Rodney to a small church. This church seemed abandoned, with its white plaster exterior turned gray and large patches of wall peeling off, revealing the bricks underneath. The grass outside the church was also overgrown with weeds, though it looked slightly better maintained than the areas around other derelict homes, suggesting that this place was the last to be abandoned in the area.

Priest Rodney got out of the car, and Jimmy followed him. They reached the entrance, where Priest Rodney took out an old-fashioned key from his body and unlocked the door. Despite the heavy dust, the lock turned smoothly, indicating there wasn't any rust inside.

Once they opened the main door and entered the church, Jimmy realized the interior wasn't too bad. Although quite dusty and the furnishings were simple and old, everything was well-arranged without any sense of disorder. It seemed that even if it was abandoned, someone had taken care of it before leaving.

Priest Rodney: "Alright, Jimmy, we'll stay here overnight. Our people will arrive tomorrow."

Jimmy: "What exactly is our mission here, Priest Rodney?"

Priest Rodney: "I will tell you, but not now. For now, let's clear out a spot to rest for the night. I have plenty of food and water in my car, but we still need a place to sleep."

Jimmy felt helpless. Back at the church, Priest Rodney hadn't told him what they were supposed to handle this time, but it was clear it involved a paranormal event. Jimmy estimated it was almost time since they had obviously reached their destination.

And with the companions Priest Rodney mentioned arriving tomorrow, the mission seemed to be particularly troublesome. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many people involved. The previous time Jimmy worked with Priest Rodney, the most they ever had was three people.

After cleaning out the chapel's rest room, Jimmy and Priest Rodney sat on the benches, unpacking food and water from the car. Only then did Priest Rodney have time to explain the whole situation to Jimmy.

Priest Rodney: "Jimmy, do you remember the previous two missions? We reallocated personnel to investigate the entire Chaos Gate Church. Although their guardian Moraven is expanding in New York, their base isn't actually there.

By tracking their followers, we discovered this abandoned little town.

At the back of the town, there's a recycling station. Our people found an old altar there, indicating they've been developing followers here for some time. But for some reason, no one knew about them before."

Jimmy: "So what are we going to do this time? Destroy the altar?"

Priest Rodney: "Yes, if we can't destroy the altar, at least we must seal it."

Jimmy: "How many others will be coming for support?"

Priest Rodney: "Four more priests, they're coming from Connecticut and Massachusetts." Priest Rodney sighed. "We still don't have enough exorcist priests. It wasn't a problem before, but in recent years, the frequent paranormal events have cost us many people."

Jimmy: "Don't worry too much. Didn't Priest White from St. Andrew's Church say your seminary has started to train new recruits? You should have enough people soon, right?"

Priest Rodney shook his head: "Those newcomers only supplement the numbers. Experienced exorcist priests are rare, especially as recent outbreaks seem increasingly challenging. In previous years, we seldom encountered such tough adversaries."

Jimmy: "Like the previous two times?"

Priest Rodney: "Yes, that's why so many people were called this time, fearing a repeat of earlier incidents. Since we've already encountered two invulnerable possessed demons, we might see more. You're here to help too; our people aren't familiar with guns. You wounded them twice before, hopefully, you'll have more success this time."

Jimmy felt a bit speechless, "You should've said that earlier. I didn't bring much ammunition this time, only some spare bullets and a box of 25 in the car."

Priest Rodney, surprised, said: "Isn't that enough? You didn't use much before either."

Jimmy checked his watch: "We should still have enough time. I'll go to nearby Woodstock to see if there are gun shops. I need to replenish my ammo. Do you need me to bring anything else?"

Priest Rodney shook his head: "I don't need those. I've brought all my weapons."

Jimmy: "OK."

Jimmy took out his FBI phone to record the GPS coordinates here. When traveling, especially in unfamiliar places, it's easiest to avoid losing your way by using coordinate recordings.

Woodstock isn't a big city, just a nearby small town that looks decent. Such places surely have gun shops. Although there aren't as many gun shops in the United States as convenience stores, each city generally has a few options.

Jimmy drove to Woodstock and, while looking for a gun shop, discovered a large supermarket. He could conveniently stop by later to replenish his camping gear.
