MEYER FAMILY; THE DRAGON CLAN
"Oh! I just remembered that someone slapped my sister." He suddenly said as the crowd were about to leave. The girl who slapped Rona began to shake in fear, her knees knocking together. She just wanted to vent an old grudge. Unexpectedly, she accumulated another grudge which will definitely cost her dearly. If she knew that Kaiser was around, and was no longer angry with Rona, in addition to being in good health, she would have never gone there even if she had the courage of a thousand lions.
Before she could think of what to do, an invisible hand encircled her neck, and drew her to Kaiser who was standing there, smirking.
"You slapped my sister. How about you slap me too to vent your anger?" Kaiser asked, smiling like a demon.
"No no no. I don't dare. I wouldn't dare." She stammered, looking away from his face.
"I didn't show up for a few days, and everyone thought they could bully our princess. Since you guys have forgotten my bottom line, and you even slapped her, let me remind you." He whispered and gave her a heavy slap, making two of her molars to crack.
"And the hand that slapped my little sister…" He whispered, still smiling. Without warning, he grabbed the girl's hand with two of his fingers and pinched lightly, making that spot crack.
"You're lucky it's your left hand. Otherwise you won't be able to practice martial arts anymore." Kaiser whispered, smiling at the girl who was crying profusely.
"Get lost!" He roared and the girl quickly ran away. She staggered when she got to the spot where some were hiding, waiting for her. One of the boys from the side families, whose branch was serving under the girl's father, quickly caught her in his arms. Without words, he carried her on his back, and made his way to the girl's home.
Kaiser turned to Rona who was still kneeling there crying and sighed. After all these years, she was still such a baby that needed him to stand up for her and protect her from getting abused.
He squatted before her and wiped her tears with his fingers.
"Silly girl, even though you made a mistake and deserve to get punished, it doesn't mean that outsiders are allowed to bully you as they please. Remember this, no one on this earth is qualified to bully or humiliate you. Why did you kneel there for so long instead of fighting back? Have you forgotten all that I taught you?"
Rona immediately burst into tears, crying heavily. Kaiser let her cry for a while, before he wiped away her tears once again.
"Pathetic! This is not the time for tears. Can't you see clearly what's happening? The rest of the clan has conspired against our branch. Anthony is gone, or perhaps trapped because of you. I don't need to tell you about mine. Rona…" Kaiser said firmly, suddenly cutting off his speech midway to let his words sink in.
At that moment, the words her mother said to her the day she stole the items and kept it with Leo resounded in her memories
("Do you think they will let us go if we give up on the heir's position? No fucking way! Your father, the current patriarch, will be killed. They will force us to give up all the wealth and power we control right now. We will be kicked out without a dime! It's alright if it's rendering us penniless, but they might actually wipe us all… What about those your father and Kaiser ruthlessly crushed because of one reason or the other? Do you think they will sit still instead of retaliating? Dream on! Even the enemies outside would take advantage once you get weaker to retaliate for past grievances. Friends, subordinates and allies who you once helped will kick you down, treat you with disdain, and spit in your face. If the power ever leaves our family, we will be ruined. Even though I don't think Stephen can do it, we still have to hope and help him. That's the only way we can survive. Kaiser alone can't do it, he needs a strong buffer beside him to continue holding us up.")
She began to cry even more heavily in regret as she recalled all the words she heard but never listened to, or believed. The thought that she had single handedly gotten Anthony killed, and Kaiser living in fear of his life every moment, due to the fact that his soul shards are in the hands of others were like daggers straight to her heart.
At first, she didn't understand why her family was so averted to Brent and Leo, but she understood everything now. The people she thought were harmless were the most dangerous. All the times that Leo spent with her were with only one intention—to use her.
Or was it the rest of the family that always deferred to her? The moment they saw her kneeling like all hope was lost, they immediately bared their fangs, unleashing all the resentment and jealousy they once bottled up in their hearts. Even those she once considered allies and friends treated her with disdain.
This only made her realize that they only respected the power behind her, not that they loved her. The moment Kaiser is gone, she and the rest of the family would be done for, because the strong tower fending off the attacks, and acting as a deterrent to others would no longer be there. She would be left vulnerable and open to attacks and oppression, which was exactly what Brent and the others wanted. And she was stupid enough to intentionally lead her brothers to harm. Now, everyone in her family might die because of her.
"Big brother, I'm so sorry."
Kaiser shook his head and scoffed.
"It's too late to be sorry, the deed has been done. We sheltered you under our umbrella, not letting you experience the hardship of life, nor realize how treacherous the dragon clan is. While others learnt how to be ruthless to survive, we fought your battles for you, letting you live a pampered life of luxury, and protection. It made you stubborn, to the point you landed us into this mess. I might find a way to survive them, but what about Anthony? Things will never be the same. Apologizing to me is useless."
"Big brother, I'm so sorry. I know that nothing I say will make this right. I…"
"Then, don't bother saying it. Live with this guilt and remember that your two brothers are at death's door because of you. All you can do now is work hard. I will try my best to stay alive but if I don't manage to find a way, you need to be powerful and competent enough to protect our parents and avenge your brothers. Atone for your mistakes and stupidity. Get stronger by all means, be ruthless enough to hold the fort if we leave this place. Be competent enough to manage the businesses and protect yourself. At this point, that's the only thing you can do." Kaiser whispered, watching her nod amidst tears.
Kaiser nodded, and pulled her to her feet.
"That's the spirit. You don't need to kneel here anymore and get humiliated by those whelps. You should focus on the things that matter."
Rona nodded and hugged him, making Kaiser's heart hurt. Watching her cry was painful, but letting her live in guilt was the only way for her to sit up and work hard. He had no plans of ever telling her he already found a way to take care of his soul shards. Otherwise, she might relent since the only one that mattered to her was alive and safe. For betraying Anthony, she deserved to see how it felt like to struggle and fight for power, what it feels like to suffer before she could get something. He won't drop her wishes into her lap anymore. She needed to grow up. Otherwise, it would only be a matter of time before she gets eaten in their lion pit clan.
Kaiser gently pushed her away.
"Rona, I won't coddle you anymore or indulge you. You understand why, right?"
She nodded, unable to form coherent words.
"You need to learn how to stand on your own and protect yourself. You need to learn how to weather storms. So that if a day comes where I'm no longer here to protect you, you will be able to look after yourself and hold the fort. Don't cry anymore; crying shows weakness. It's time to show the world the stronger and competent version of yourself." He whispered and kissed her forehead.
"I understand, big brother. I won't let you down again."
Kaiser immediately smiled at her. He finally got the answer he wanted.
"Rona, don't let their words get to you. No matter what happens, you're still my sister. I don't hate you." She nodded and immediately ran inside.
"As for the guards who saw her getting bullied but didn't intervene, you guys will get it from me." Kaiser muttered, his blue eyes cold and dangerous.
His phone rang at that moment, distracting him.
"Boss, we finally succeeded in replicating the drugs using the guidelines the first young master gave you. The patients it was tested on all showed positive results. This drug is a miraculous elixir that have never been seen before." The head of his secret research lab said in an excited voice the moment he picked the call. At once, a bright smile spread on his face.
"I will be there soon." Kaiser said and looked up at the sky as he cut the call. He wanted to tell Anthony the good news, but it was impossible. His chest was tight with emotions and he struggled to control them.
"Big brother, where are you?"
