Friday night. Tomorrow would be the day we did the Newspaper thing.
The others weren't around. I wasn't sure where they were. Probably for the best. Tomorrow would hopefully happen without too many problems.
I was sitting by window in Dragon Tower's main room. My legs stretched out flat in front of me as the sky outside was quickly turning to night. I sighed and looked up at the ceiling.
"I don't suppose it would be too much to ask for you to behave tomorrow?" I asked hoping that the Tower wasn't going to answer me. Frankly, I trusted it about as much as I trusted my towermates.
Nothing.
Silence as it was just me in an empty Tower talking to myself.
"I'm worrying too much. Tomorrow probably won't even be a big deal. We'll get it over with and then we can all move on with our lives, right?"
"Probably."
I did not scream at the sudden presence in the room with me. I did nearly fall off the bench. Thanks for that Red.
"How long have you been there?" I demanded.
She giggled, "Longer than you think." She was sitting on the floor with her legs tucked into her chest. Her hood was still up and blocking her face. Did she have it up all the time? Why? Or was it something to do with when she's from? I really needed to ask her one of these days. Assuming she would/could answer me.
Also when did she appear?
"I'd apologize for startling you, but…"
"You're not sorry. Because Dragon."
"Because Dragon."

"Are all Dragon students awful?" I asked.
"I don't know, you tell me. You're one too."
"I wish I knew what it saw in me."
"Between you and me," she angled her head towards me like she was going to whisper like we weren't the only ones here. Not that it meant I could see her face or hear her any better. But then again, I had no way of knowing if there was anyone else on her side of whatever this was. "I think it was curious about the curse."
"I don't suppose you'll tell me how you know about that?"
She scoffed, "A girl has to keep a few secrets."
Great.
"Any idea what the hatchling thing is about?"
"I mean…there's a dragon outside and it is two thousand years older than us. By comparison I guess we would seem like hatchlings. Little babies just out of the shell. Can you hear that by the way?"
"Hear what?" I asked concerned.
Red stopped and looked to where the coffee table was. She looked down at her hands still covered by her black gloves. Her face was still covered by that hood.
She pulled the glove on her right hand off.
Oh. That's why she wore them.
Her hand was covered in scars. They reminded me of veins. She held it out, the fingers had a light shake to them.
Then I heard it. A very familiar song.
"Metalica?" I asked. "You mentioned them before." It was Master of Puppets, her supposed favorite.
"It was a gift," she commented as she put her glove back on.
"And the…scars?"
"I don't think I need to explain to you that learning magic doesn't always go the way we plan it."
"There you go again, talking like you know me."
She sounded amused. "In a manner of speaking, I know you better than you know yourself. I'd say 'don't sweat the details' but that's one of your strong suits. Also very useful skill you're going to need."
"That's not reassuring."
"It's not meant to be. It's just the facts. I wish I could just tell you what my deal is. But the rules are what they are. I can promise you'll get answers, I just wish by then it wasn't too late."
"Too late?"
"Just…be careful, okay?"
That was more than enough to make me worried.
But just as suddenly as she appeared, she was gone.
"I don't suppose you have any idea what is going on with her, do you?" I asked Dragon Tower.
I was answered with only silence.
Wonderful.
(*********)
My dreams didn't make any more sense than reality.
I was at home, sitting on my bed with a chemistry textbook closed in front of me. At least, I thought it was a chemistry textbook. But when I opened it, the inside was filled with hieroglyphics. Images and pictures I couldn't decipher.
The pages began to flip by themselves rapidly. I pulled my hands back.
There was a thunderous cracking sound.
I turned to the window, dark green light poured in through cracks that were spreading quickly. Billowing in from those same cracks was curse green fog. It started to fill the room, I couldn't get away.
I woke up then.
