Multi-Dimensional Merchant System

Book 2 - Chapter 60 – A Fine Mess

"I should have killed her..." Oliver muttered, clearly disgruntled by the 'resolution'... that he felt didn't really resolve anything. And likely complicated his life further.

"Would you have really been ok with that, Oli?" Shaking her head, Poli quickly corrected herself. "Ok, you probably would. But... do you really want to kill her? Or is it because of the similarities the two of you share?"

Oliver shifted uncomfortably for a second before he sighed. Taking Poli's hand, he closed his eyes and spoke. "What you really mean... is that, when I look at her, I see what I could easily be. And that a part of me wants to kill that part of myself and just be... normal..."

He shrugged halfheartedly. "I mean, that's part of it, sure. But not all. She did threaten Tyrone, after all. And even she admitted she wasn't bluffing..."

"I do kinda worry about how much havoc a more twisted version of me could really let loose... Especially since she's so fixated on me."

"On us, you mean." Poli interjected with a smirk, eliciting an amused snort from her boyfriend. "But I get it; I worry about that too... But I also think she'll stick to her promise to tone things down."

"And, tell me honestly Oli... If she hadn't threatened T, and you and I weren't together... The two of you would probably hook up, right?"

He hesitated for a second before shrugging. "I mean, maybe? But it would probably end terribly. Pairing two similarly unstable individuals together... It would be like a feedback loop of crazy. At least until the FBI, or some other powerful organization, caught up to us..."

"Yeah... that probably wouldn't end well..."

"Did she really try to get you in bed?"

"Yep." Poli chuckled.

"That's... a little fucked up. Trying to sleep with you while also pushing for us to get back together? Yeah, her mind is even more warped than mine..."

"She just wants to be loved and accepted- things she's never had before." Polina replied, squeezing his hand. "And, full disclosure Oli... I was a little tempted. Partially because she reminds me of you... And partly because she is kinda cute."

Seeing the look of disbelief on his face, she couldn't help but laugh. "Oh come on, Oli! You already knew I was bisexual. She wouldn't be the first woman I've hooked up with... But there was no way I could do that. Even if I hadn't realized it yet, I still wanted to be with you- and sleeping with her would have been cheating, at least in my mind."

"That's fair, I guess." Oliver shrugged, though a part of him was happy with her response. He didn't really care about her sexuality, but the loyalty? And the admission that, even when things were at their worst between them, she still wanted him as much as he wanted her? It was... nice. He didn't really know how else to describe it. "But... what do you think will happen when she can't get either of us? I doubt she will take that well..."

"She doesn't want either of us, she want's both of us." Poli responded with a shrug. "She did say that she's willing to share..."

Oliver's brow furrowed in consternation. "I'm not particularly interested in either of us going off just to sleep with her- and that's not even taking into account her being a vampire! It feels like cheating... and stringing her along at the same time."

"And even if I wanted to kill her, I don't want to be the kind of asshole that does shit like that!"

Seeing Oliver getting wound up over it, Poli patted his hand quickly while she spoke in a calm, soothing tone. "I wouldn't want to do something like that either, Oli. And that's not what she wants anyway."

Head tilted in confusion, uncertainty filled his voice as he slowly asked. "Then... what?"

"She wants a triad, Oli." Poli answered with a chuckle. Seeing he was still confused, she chuckled softly. She wasn't really surprised as he had only limited experience- and interest- in anything romantic before her... But damn if her boyfriend wasn't clueless about some things. "A three way relationship. All of us together and dating each other..."

"I... have no idea what to say to that. I mean, I think I've heard people mention stuff like that before... But..." Oliver shrugged, still looking confused. "Yeah, I've got nothing other than that I don't really trust her or even know her that well. And I barely know how to manage our relationship as it is... And that this is a really weird conversation."

"That's four things, not nothing." Poli pointed out with a laugh. "But we've got other things to worry about right now."

"Yeah." He sighed. "Like 'will this plan really work' and 'how much will the FBI try to fuck us'..."

"It will work." Poli reassured him. "And it's the FBI; they will only fuck us if they see a benefit or reason for it... Then they'll fuck us as hard as possible."

"Unless they have some sort of magic fuckery that we have no clue about. Then it's anyone's guess as to what will happen..."

Oliver considered her words, and their rough plan, as she drove. It frustrated him that he really had no idea what to expect out of the FBI agents; not only did they have magical means that he hadn't anticipated, but the agent he met- Agent Jane Doe, which sounded both made up and ridiculous- seemed to be a smart one. He got the distinct feeling that there was more to her than was apparent...

And, if she really was as clever as she seemed, he didn't think their quick exit from the house would go unnoticed. In hindsight, he could see how suspicious it would look- though he didn't blame Poli for that. If not for her, it was likely that something much more damning would have been said.

"Think she's had enough time to clear out already?" A hint of concern in her voice as they pulled back into the driveway.

"Probably. You saw how fast she moved when we told her about the card- though how far she'll get without a car..." Oliver responded, recalling that he didn't see a car at the house next door- the house that Eve was renting- when they had left.

"She rides a motorcycle that she likes to park around back- she said its to keep people from messing with it while she sleeps... Wait, do vampires need to sleep?"

He chuckled softly and shrugged. "Hell if I know. Ok, let's go see if we can dodge getting worked over by the FBI... And if we can't... are you really sure about-"

"Yes, Oli. I'm very sure. I'm not just going to let you take all the heat for this shit... And if it comes to running, then I'm going with you. Besides, how many agency around the world are after Eve? And she's managed to evade them for this long?"

"I mean, no offense to her, but... if they can't catch her, how the hell could they catch us?" Poli finished with a mischievous smirk.

Oliver sighed softly as he reached for the door handle to get out of the car. "Things like this make me miss that alien planet... Evading armed soldiers and fighter planes is a lot easier... And more fun..."

"Can't we just... I dunno, grab a Bounty and disappear off planet for a few weeks?"

Poli chuckled softly, giving his hand one last squeeze. "After we make sure the FBI is off our asses, we'll start planning a trip. Ok?"

Grumbling to himself, he climbed out of the car and headed for the house... The unfortunate reality was that even if he had killed Eve, things would still have ended up complicated. "What a mess this has turned in to..."

Hanging up the phone, Agent Jane Doe leapt to her feet. Grabbing her suit from where it was hanging, she spoke over her shoulder as she headed towards the bathroom. "Get your things and start the car, Smith! Apparently 'Lyn' really is Evelyn Hart!"

"What!?" He exclaimed. While he had been a bit suspicious, he hadn't really expected to be right. What were the odds that the woman they were after just showed up like that? And right in the house of the person they were monitoring? "I thought Silk said he had only met her once, but somehow she's friends with his girlfriend? How the hell-"

Jane's head peaked around the corner, directing a stern glare his way. "We want answers, and Oliver Silk is offering them. But the longer we delay, the more time she has to run. Now get your shit and get moving!"
