Chapter 373: Starting Anew at the Imperial Military Intelligence Bureau

Early in the morning, Atro received one bad news and one good news.

Bad news: The Military Intelligence Bureau is about to have a new deputy director. Since the last director and deputy director were pulled down by the Emperor, the joyful times of Major General Atro and several other major generals are about to end.

Good news: This deputy director is his brother.

Atro couldn't understand why Hanton, who was fighting at the front line, was suddenly transferred to the Military Intelligence Bureau, but indeed, the bureau has recently faced a series of tricky problems.

Of course, they certainly couldn't let the White Ghost take the blame.

Atro understood Hanton's capabilities. He thought that, as long as Hanton was willing to act, these minor problems would be resolved.

Atro picked up the special communicator to notify all departments to prepare for the arrival of the White Ghost, but out of professional instinct and his own caution, Atro hesitated for a moment and decided... to call his third uncle first to explain the current situation.

The call connected, and the old voice of his third uncle always gave Atro a particularly reassuring feeling.

"Third uncle... there's a bit of a situation here..."

Atro briefly explained that the White Ghost was about to become the deputy director of the Military Intelligence Bureau.

His third uncle pondered for a moment and spoke slowly, "No need to worry. They don't want the White Ghost to stay on the front lines. His reputation in the military grows daily, and that's something the higher-ups are wary of."

"Uh, what's the big deal about that?"

Atro wondered:

"In recent years, hasn't Admiral Thomas's reputation in the military also been at its peak?"

"Atro, Thomas and the Ghost are different. The higher-ups want to cultivate the White Ghost into a sword in their hands, a controllable sword, to strike wherever they point. That's the consideration when allowing transformed people into politics."

His third uncle sighed lightly:

"But they didn't expect that, to maintain his public reputation, the White Ghost would dare to offend imperial authority, sacrificing his intimate relationship with the great Emperor.

"And we old folks didn't expect that the White Ghost, who should have lost his power, would decisively destroy the CIA base within the New Federation during the gas grenade terror incident, making his value apparent to the higher-ups again.

"This young man is quite tricky. You should interact with him appropriately in the future. Do not delay or slack off on tasks he assigns; fully cooperate. In short, don't offend him, but also don't get too close to him.

"I predict that he will soon leave your Military Intelligence Bureau and rotate through various sensitive departments of the Empire, but the bottom line from above is that he is not allowed to cultivate his own faction."

"Got it, my dear silly nephew?"

"Understood, third uncle," Atro's steep eyebrows lifted, "Don't reject, don't get close, treat him as a proper superior... Third uncle, you always mention 'above,' isn't 'above' just referring to the Emperor?"

"Don't ask too much about this. When someday you can sit in my position, you'll see."

The old man sighed slowly:

"If the White Ghost successfully marries that Princess Daphne, he might have a chance to become one of those above in a hundred years. However, I always feel that Hanton hides some secrets.

"Alright, I need to go for my wellness treatment. Unless it's something important, don't always call me. Remember, you are now the Emperor's man. Why not report upwards at this time?"

Atro was momentarily stunned, and then had a sudden realization.

After hanging up the call with his third uncle, Atro informed the liaison officer beside the Emperor—a maid from the Antenna Organization—about White Ghost's imminent arrival at the Military Intelligence Bureau.

Soon, Atro received a reply with a verbal message from the Emperor:

'Give him plenty to do.'

Atro sat there deep in thought.

Is the Emperor still remembering those two big foolish idiots?

Quite a memory indeed.

...

Most of the Military Intelligence Bureau operates in a decentralized manner. For instance, before Atro was promoted to major general, he worked at an intelligence gathering point, and meetings were held via the bureau's exclusive network projection video conference.

The director and deputy directors were the same, like nails driven into key positions throughout the Empire, scattered across various bases.

Except for the Military Intelligence Bureau, only the Empire's Network Center is laid out this way. The latter is mainly to maintain the unified network of the Empire.

Considering that Yang Ming is quite familiar with Atro, Yang Ming's induction ceremony was chosen to be held at the intelligence personnel training base where Atro was currently located.

Atro was very attentive.

He organized a grand welcoming ceremony for the hero returning from the front line.

The entire welcoming ceremony started at the underground dock. Virtual images were projected on both sides of the dock, with simple and direct enthusiastic slogans like 'Warmly Welcome White Ghost.'

The instructors and trainees at the base were mobilized. The men wore Imperial uniforms, and the women wore miniskirts and short shirts, forming two lines along both sides of the dock and the path to the underground base.

In the current structure of the Military Intelligence Bureau, six acting deputy directors, over thirty heads of intelligence departments, more than a hundred and sixty main departmental heads, and thousands of intelligence station chiefs all participated in the welcome ceremony through either real or virtual projection images.

They even waited for two more Galaxy Times.

Atro stood before a group of projections, dressed in a sharp suit, holding a civil cane in his hand. On his somewhat ordinary face in the Sherman Empire was always a faint, indelible smile.
