This was an exquisitely beautiful woman—one might even say handsome—with a gaze that made her seem unapproachable.
"Yana," Carl began, "are you here to protect me?"
"Yes," Yana nodded, her expression still emotionless. "From today onward, I will always guard by your side. You can treat me as the sword in your hand, to command at will."
"Then..." Carl asked curiously, "how strong are you?"
Brown had always said how incredibly powerful the Holy Hall was, but Carl remained skeptical. If it were truly that powerful, why would it hide in some unknown corner, afraid to come into the light? The aura emanating from Yana was not strong either. But to be specifically sent from the Holy Hall by Great Knight Brown to protect him, she must be noteworthy.
Yana said, "I am a Desecration Knight. If I exert my full strength, I can kill Legendary Creatures."
"What?" Carl asked, clearly surprised. "You are a Legendary Knight?"
Yana's skin was smooth and taut, brimming with youthful vitality. She did not appear old, yet she was Legendary. Moreover... wasn't it said that without a Duke's Bloodline or Divine Blessing, one could not become Legendary?
Yana nodded. "You can understand it that way."
"Guardian," Brown spoke, "Yana has the Evil God Bloodline, so... she cannot act frequently, or else she would mutate, turning into a monstrous being."
"Guardian, please be assured," Yana interjected. "Before I mutate, I will take my own life. I will never pose a threat to your existence."
Hmm? Evil God Bloodline?
Carl's eyes flickered, his expression odd. "Come here, let me take a closer look."
Yana frowned. Carl's demeanor prompted some unsettling thoughts. Her Bloodline was very special; regardless of gender, individuals possessing it were exceptionally handsome or beautiful, which naturally attracted unwanted attention. Because she couldn't freely unleash her power, she recalled some Desecration Knights who, for various reasons, had become mere playthings in others' hands.
After hesitating, she slowly stepped closer.
Carl extended his hand, gripping her wrist.
Analysis Spell!
Eh? Yana's expression shifted slightly.
She could perceive a strange force flowing from Carl's hand into her body, seeping towards the depths of her Bloodline. This was a power she had never encountered before, different from a Knight's Battle Aura or Bloodline Power. Guardian! Could this be a power bestowed by a god?
However, he clearly harbored no ulterior motives, which allowed Yana to breathe a sigh of relief. If the Guardian had acted improperly, she truly would not have known how to refuse.
After a short while, Carl slowly retracted his hand, his face filled with confusion and puzzlement, along with a touch of gravity.
"Evil God Bloodline..." he murmured. "Did you acquire the corpse of an Evil God?"
Brown looked utterly bewildered.
Yana's expression changed. This matter had always been a secret of the Desecration Knights!
"It seems so," Carl nodded. "Remarkable technique, merging the Evil God Bloodline with a human body to grant Transcendent powers."
"Regrettably!" he continued. "To think a mortal body could control Divine power. You will ultimately be assimilated by that power. So, you Desecration Knights don't live long, do you?"
"Yes," Yana nodded. "The longest-lived Desecration Knight lived to be thirty years old."
"Thirty," Carl sighed. "You are all very pitiful."
To suppress the power within, Desecration Knights, despite their immense strength, could not use their abilities freely. They even had to control intense emotional fluctuations, doomed to live as mere killing machines until their deaths.
A slight ripple disturbed the calm surface of Yana's eyes. She then bowed her head and muttered, "All for the great Moon Goddess."
"Alright then," Carl waved his hand. "From now on, you will stay by my side. Though, I won't need you here all the time, as I also have some personal privacy."
"By the way!" he asked, seemingly casual. "This technique must have been developed after the fall of the Moon Goddess. Who researched the Desecration Knights?"
"Reinhardt," Yana said. "The evil apostate, a former Holy Temple Knight, a man once favored by the Wisdom God. Now he's a senior attendant to the Duke."
"He hasn't died yet?" Carl asked, surprised.
"No," Yana shook her head. "For centuries, the Holy Hall has attempted many assassinations against him, all unsuccessful. On the contrary, it's because of him that the Holy Hall has been forced into hiding, daring not show its face."
Reinhardt? Carl silently noted this name. Even Bloodline Magic couldn't merge an ordinary person with the powerful Evil God Bloodline of an Evil God. But this man had done it! Moreover, deep within Yana's Bloodline, there was also a Prohibition: if the Evil God Bloodline went out of control, the host's body would collapse. Even the lifespan of the Desecration Knights was predetermined. Such preventive measures, techniques entrenched deep within the Bloodline, were truly astonishing. It was hard to imagine how it had been achieved in this world without Wizards. However, since this person had survived for centuries, he had surely surpassed Legendary levels, far beyond Carl's current ability to interact with.
...
SWOOSH.
The Scarlet Moon hung high, a cold wind swept across the land, as a Cavalry troop numbering over three hundred appeared outside Jiliu City.
With the city gates opening, the troop slowly entered the city.
Over three hundred men, along with their horses.
Aside from the sounds of horseshoes, armor clashing, and flags flapping in the wind, no other sounds could be heard.
Not even the sound of breathing!
An invisible air of deadly silence spread with the arrival of the Cavalry troop, causing the city's residents to quickly shut their doors.
The Knights of the City of the Dead.
